As you are aware this game is coming. Its going to be good. You are going to want to play it. My question to you today is where?

At this stage DICE are allowing the use of dedicated servers in their up and coming blockbuster Battlefield 3.

As it stands I have the resources available to host a box boasting similar connection quality to that of 3FL. Based in Perth. Run by a dedicated admin team and funded on advertising (MOTD etc)

Point of this thread is to generate interest.. If we build it will you come?

Do what I did, buy a metabox/clevo x7200 with dual gtx 485m's :p comes in at around 4k with a few extras but it runs everything on ultra ! Not much of a laptop though, more like portable desktop.

It will piss in bf3 performance wise at full settings, and makes alienware look like the rubbish it is.

get 2600k cpu. best cpu on the market to overclock, by the largest of margins, still good in standard. go look it up :)

and yes 260 SLI should be fine, is better than 1x 580.

Although I'd go 570 SLI just in case....just because the 570 is such a bargain card, even 1 for now if you want then later get 2 because you wanna be a baller pingpingpingping - although have to shop around, some shops charge stupid prices for GTX 570.

One thing to keep in mind, E3 was running 1x 580, so there's hope :)

I don't think the specs are going to be that overwhelming, even the developers have said themselves that it's not going to be "crazy or anything, not like Crysis".

Look at what I said? lol.

Just go look up reviews, see how the 570 copes with games such as Crysis 2 and BC2. A 570 overclocked can easily match, and I believe sometimes beat a standard 580.....which I've already said was the video card they used at E3.

570 can run BC2, in most reviews and tests (depending on PC specs) at 65-80fps approx on highest settings (also depends on which test they're running)....get 570 SLI and it goes upto about 110-120fps easy approx...Battlefield 3 will of course be more demanding than BC2, but it's not going require 2x the power.

GTX 260 can be overclocked to be about the same as a standard 570.

Uses more power and will create more heat more noticeably than if you were obviously just running 1 video card though....no harm in looking into oc'ing video cards, quite safe!

But in all honesty, from the overclock results I've seen so far....it's not going to make the experience that much better/smoother, only like 5fps in it on average :/

In fast paced games such as FPS/Driving sims the AA isnt so important due to the speed in which things pass you by, but the higher detail is definately nice.

I just hate rambo play. I think you should be made use cover more effectivly and camp to an extent, becasue lets face it, thats what you would do if your life depended on it. Makes you pick your shots so much more carefully so you dont give away your position etc. I dno im just hate arcade style play, i play it as a war sim i guess.

In the end if you can get at least 120fps, or thereabouts, and have a 120hz monitor....you'll have a hot silky smooth looking game! :) - hence why I've gone "overkill spec" and recommened it. Anything less than 60fps/60hz looks slow and sh*t....hate it.

Update Crysis 2 to 1.9, get DX11 pack and High Res Pack then whack it on ultra and watch the frame rate drop to about 10fps :P

Currently OC'ing my rig to get it to run on Ultra @ 1600x1200 smoothly. Stock i7-930, 6Gb DDR3, Raptor and 2x5850's Crossfires gives me about 25fps average. Although it drops to about 12 when you get a lot of stuff happening on screen.

Pre-ordered BF3, cannot wait till its out. Is going to be epic!

Yeah, much easier for flying choppers than jets, but it was a HUGE pain in the ass for solo-choppering though - I just couldn't aim the bloody gun with the joystick AT ALL lol.

Not that I can use choppers or planes, but just get a config generator that adjusts your mouse sens for each thing (running around can be low sensitivity whereas cars, tanks turrets and planes can have a higher sens and each one adjustable) - that way it's not the same or as retarded.

My mate is a having a tough time adapting to WASD, would you say this keyboard is a good alternative?


Weapons list and class list for BF3. Some returning from BC2 and some new weapons.

Hella keen for:

FN P90 - Hopefully they won't make it an inaccurate piece of shit due to it's massive clip size
SCAR H - Such a cool looking gun, hopefully it's better than the SCAR L in BFBC2.
All of the pistols! It's gonna be interesting with a fully auto Glock as your side arm, the Raffica was a handful enough in BFBC2.
And the return of M249 SAW, 870MCS, G3, 9A-91, PP-2000 etc. Looking at that list makes me happy in the pants region.


Also I am hoping that the weapon list they released isn't the whole lot, a couple are actually missing (in vids the "M16A3" has been spotted), but yeah....I don't like the neostead not being confirmed - yet they include and name 3 shitkunt semi-auto shotguns straight off the fucking bat.

What a crock of shit.

I also hope the M14 comes back, that weapon is handy at times.

The server set-up for BF3 is a bit of a mission as you cant just run your own box. Has to be a rented server through an ISP of their choosing.
At the time of creating this thread the intention was to run a box through EFTEL (WA) in order to minimize lag and get some local action cranking.
As more and more information comes out however the dream slips away a little bit more.

Could rent a ranked server and open it up for us lads.. but wouldn't be any different than the last server you played on.

Will provide more info as I come across it.

I like the multiplayer from Medal of Honor. When you shot someone, it was like you had actually shot someone. Watching BF3 videos gives me the sense it will be very similar, definitely better.

Frostbite engine is good, I know it was tweaked for MOH but in BC2 it shits me to tears sometimes. Headshots should be one shot kills. But no, not in BC2. MOH it was though and it was much more satisfying.

I realise that, but how? As far as I can remember I didn't give an email address when I pre-ordered at EB, just a phone number. Was I meant to be given an empty box or something, like I did years back when I pre-ordered ET:QW?

EDIT: Or is the 29th BETA an open-beta? ie. Even those who didn't pre-order can play?
