From the EB Games Facebook:

All states have agreed to #R18 except NSW, and the Commonwealth are considering overriding them/going ahead without them... Brendan O'Connor is confident that "we can move forward to introduce R18+ now" in a matter of months... It's happening people!

About time they go ahead with this, Valve took the piss out of australia with Left 4 dead 2 being knocked back, the version they gave AUS was shit without the unlock to make it standard...

If you've played the standard off the shelf L4D2 you'll know what I'm talking about..

First thing I'm going to do is download a legitimate copy of L4D2

It's actually just the same with the uncut, google "Left4uncut" if you don't already know about it and there's thousands of people playing with it enabled.

But yea +1 it's actually a decent game with it uncut, even the uncut version shouldn't be R18+ it's NOT that crazy.. but this is good news never the less.

I downloaded a US copy and cracked it the day it came out.
Just want one that I can play on AUS servers with, without fucking around in text files etc to get through.

I honestly thought AVP was more excessively violent than L4D2.. Sure, you're cutting peoples limbs off on L4D, but in AVP you get a close-up full HD visual of yourself pulling some pingpingpingpings spine and skull through the back of his head.... But that didn't get censored.

About time. Not that it made much difference as I just bought the American versions of games through Steam, but it's a good thing.

Although all games currently banned will stay that way I hear.

i recently just started playing GTA4... i found myself thinking holy fuck! 15 year olds can buy this, likely many mothers buy it for their kids because its only MA... glad they are going ahead with this. especially now that technology can make boobies that arent just squares with a pink pixel in the middle...

A bit more info, seems some people think it will make rape acceptable.. lolwut?

WA member for Swan Hills, Frank Alban, who also signed the petition, said he did not see the sense in having an R 18+ classification for games that simulated rape and other extreme violence.

``Exposure makes something that's not acceptable now acceptable.''

Actually Benson, from what I remember of the argument a while ago, they will not be releasing the R18+ version of games that are already release/on shelves in Australia. Pretty fucked.

Does this mean though that the restrictions on bringing them in are no longer in place?

That I'm not sure about dude! But good question. I guess that they wouldn't be able to stop it because the game would be allowed to be sold legally locally, just not supplied locally.

The answer will be no as they would not of been rated locally. A US R rating may differ to an Aus rating, so short of re-evaluating every game knocked back it won't happen. Game companies might re-release an unedited version however, knowing there's a (mostly) uncatered for hole in the market and that there's a classification to allow it.

I see, never the less it will still be good and like others have said should be able to get those previous illegal games elsewhere!!

You can get the games anywhere, eBay UK & US is a hot favourite but with the possibility of a $110k fine for a game (which is ludicrous) because it was banned previously, I would be interested to know how it would affect bringing in the games now seeing as they too will have a classification of R18+ stamped on them for example in the UK and US, so would it just be a case of "meh."

I understand it is all about local classification, but I don't see the standards varying too much all over the world, and in saying that even if games are not reclassified it would be interesting to know about bringing in games like Mortal Kombat 9 and the like without having to worry about possibly coping a fine, though I know plenty of people have brought in a copy, sold copies, and/or kept copies of games banned such as mentioned.

Has anyone been fined before anyway? Or would an excuse such as "unwanted gift from a family member overseas who doesn't know the the game is banned here" suffice if asked by customs?
