I like the lightbar.. Good for close up spread.. The Hids compliment it nicely on the highway.. Some really good specials on them at the moment. Not brand name but at the prices worth a bash!

nice! how much if you dont mind me asking, ive been looking at them all online and pretty much all the different brand tents look like the same tent? where did you get it from in Perth? the cover zips to the actual tent doesn't it? I used one in new zealand where the cover didn't zip and it was utter shit once it got wind under it.

Fozzy
15-08-2011, 06:46 PM
I did some looking around aswell. Basically from what i can work out is there is a couple of manufactures making the tents and the are ordered to the customers specs so there is a few variations in all of them.

I decided on the ironman for the 2 year warranty and the fact they carry all parts in stock and you can take it into any dealer and they will fix it. Cost about 1600. Which includes everything. Annexe, Mounting hardware and the tent/cover. (it also had a black cover which I wanted)

Yeah the cover has a zipper and bungee cord to suck it up under the hard frame. Then it has 2 anti ballooning straps that go over the cover once it is zipped up.

if you're serious about buying an Ironman tent, hunt around for prices and then let me know what you find. might be able to sort out a deal. and from what i understand, the Ironman tent is just an older ARB design, about 5 years or so, from what i can work out.

My virtually stock '02 NM Pajero.

Only things I have changed are the tyres (went up a size) and bought a decent set of bash plates (broke the stock plastic one at work on a rock, also didn't have a transmission plate, so got one of them). Not planning to do much more as thinking of trading it in soon. Wishing I had gone T/D now instead of petrol.

Side entry to where I work... someone had been there previous trying to snatch/pull the log out of the way, hence the wheel marks at the bottom of the screen, yet if they drove another 100m there was a downhill bit they could of got through. (they left a good shackle behind to, score!)

Same here man, been putting it off for about 18months now, the car has just sat in the front yard with v8 supertaxi spec front camber from when I jumped it and bent it up. Just running a ghetto 3 link setup with airshocks. If it works really well once it is yellow I wouldnt mind getting a LWB 2L v6 manual one and doing it to that. Something I can actually go for a decent trip with.

Does anyone know any hairdressers that own a vitara?? I have 2" lifted king springs, lowered diff mounts and full calmini bashplate set that I would love to get a couple of hundred bucks for. The bash plates cost me a few hundred to get from the states and make the things bullet proof underneath.

Its a set of three, with Lada's being live front it would be easier to just grab and flat bit of plate and chucks some mounts on it to suit. The center plate for the vitara is just flat plate with holes in the right spot anyway.

what castor correction u running? bushes, plates or drop boxes?
not required i guess but its better to have adjustable rear upper arms so you can re-align the rear diff pinion angle, 4" lift really puts your rear lower arms directly in line to be smashed on rocks and the factory ones have fuck all strength so aftermarket rear lowers not only for strength but to also move the diff back.
Driveshaft spacers?

Suppose if you already have the adjustable panhards and draglink they are the big ticket items but there is a few small things that while not neccesary they are still better to hav eto get the diffs sitting back where they are supposed to be.

Dont think there is any better was of running the wires then close to the mounts on the rack and then running them under the door rubber.... some thinner cable might be better too.

What if you want both worlds? Like new shocks that look sweet like Kings but are also very practical!

That means my 4WD is gay, roof - rack sitting on with a kayak hold. :-(

I went for practicality though... I will be looking into some spotties later too, didn't know much about the rules - thanks mr.mike for posting!

Got a mate that has a comp truck patrol who is sponsored by a place over east with lights. I've got 3 lightforce HID spotties on their way for well under half of retail price. Let me know if u want some prices.

DRKWRX where are you heading?
Practicality is the way to go. If lights on the roof suit what driving you are doing or night beach fishing then do it!
the zook looks funny as hell with a kayak on the roof racks but it works. Would take practicality over show or "LOOKS HUGE" any day.

Not sure if I've put this up, but this is when we dropped some struts and springs into a mates rubicon. we had the forklift set to the same height as the tyre, so 35".

For a basically stock car it can out do a lot of Patrols/Landcruisers in the same sort of setup. Rubicon is great value for the money.

any way of running dislocation cones like the landrover's? havn't heard of them being made for patrols tho.

mr_mike
03-11-2011, 07:08 PM
yeh they call them drop out cones. Basically a cone that bolts to the center of the spring perch and allows the spring to slide back into its place.

DRKWRX- dunno how viable it is but a flat black vinyl sticker on the bonnet or the extreme, paint the center of the bonnet matt black will stop any bonnet glare.

no point in stopping the shock working to its full length with that strap idea, its not falling out ( i dont think ) just slightly uncaptive and can move it around a small amount... might just cabel tie it in, or bolt it down.

mr_mike
04-11-2011, 10:30 PM
limiting straps are a good idea if ur doing lots of jumps or often going full drop on the suspension as topping out the shock can damage it just as bad as bottoming out the shock.

front LSD
rear Detroit Locker (amazing)
lower ratio diffs from the early 4 speed niva's
heavy duty springs and suspension (lifted it almost 2")
new cv's, wheel clynders, wheel bearings, front discs, steering box, hoses, full service, all fluids changed... list goes on

Took it out to alkimos lastnight and the lower ratio diffs make a massive difference in the sand, couldnt find anything we couldnt get up.

Don't need locker's' in a patrol unless ur doing some serious off roading. The factory rear LSD is one of the best available. Fresh oil and a diff shim will make it nice and tight again if it's a bit loose. Superflex arms and longer shocks would of helped u more in the situation above as woul give u the travel to keep the wheels on the ground

DRKWRX

Passage GT

low range doesn't really need power, if your lacking get crawl gears lol.
took my shitter out this week, always surprising how capable it is with the 31s aired down, fucked suspension and a 1989 spec lsd, went everywhere we put it so easily i'd almost forgotten how capable she was.
i've had a front locker sitting here for years, as mike mentioned before, unless you go full hardcore offroading, the rear lsd tightened up and a front locker will get you almost anywhere.
wish mine was a bit cleaner so i could spend money on new susp/tyres etc, i've grown quite attached to it but it's hard to justify spending cash on something i know i'll never get back.

I paid 39k for it, it had 33"s when i got it, a different roof rack etc, ice added te 35's, my roof rack/awning, winch, draws, stereo/uhf, superflex arms and some other bits.

Already has a front ARB airlocker, doest need a rear one with the good Nissan LSD, thinking bout reduction gears though. Atm running a TD27T2 (2.7 TD) with a fuckt auto box!
with 31"

The gearbox gets stuck in 1/2 gear (not sure yeah if it completely misses 1st) and It blows black smoke like a motherfucker, but I got it for a steal and absolutely everything else works Inc its headlight sprayers lol!
This coming weekend I will do a complete fluid flush; maybe get a bit more life out of it!

Plans for it:
I am starting to collect everything needed to do a 3.8 V6 with a 4l60e conversion
Manual front hub locks, the auto ones suck ass.
Newish Lsd to replace the stock one
This should be all that is needed for my beach fishing trips and Lancelin trips

Since itís running IFS in front and a 5 link in the back, not to sure what my suspension options are yet, but might opt it out for a D22 replacement if possible.

See if you can pick up an L67 for the Pathfinder mate (Factory supercharged 3.8L). More torque offroad and same economy on long trips.

considering some form of powerup at some stage. Looking like a build will be the best bet. Forgies, rods, snail and toughen up the auto. Not sure if it will be petrol ($ouch) or dedicated gas

TD42 will cost just under 20k so thats a bit rich

not sure if the 4.5 is like the 4.8 fuel wise, this mod might help out. has worked well on mine, been averaging 500-550km's to both tanks, to 650 both tanks.

New daily shitter r50 nissan pathfinder and my first 4wd/soft roader.
Had 265 70 16s maxxis fitted today also ordered a 2inch spring lift to be fitted shortly.
The most it will do is cruise along the beach in geraldton and tow the calais every so often.

ironman.com or 4wd1.com have prices on their site, iron man springs are known for being pretty hard so dont be afraid of getting the lighter duty springs if you want to get some decent flex.

i had a mate with one having electrical issues. guages etc intermittently not working. pulled apart the wiring loom, and found everything scotch locked together.

The patrol was brought from Greg at brunswick diesels , its was his car , so i guess if he was silly enough to do the dodgy on his own 4by then more fool him and me really , this is my second brunswick and i can safely say the service i have received is second to none , and i would rather deal with a bit of shoddy customer service then the problems 2.8 and 3.0l's will bring :D , Wa needs to seriously adjust the price of TD42 GU's CRACK PRICE !!

there was one story of Patrol forums of some old bloke doing his retirement tour got as far as Queensland and the motor threw a leg out of bed and Brunswick didnt want anything to do with it despite it being a new motor. Was even a mission just to get parts.
