Still no solid axle front ffs. with the amount of SAS'd luxes and surfs/prado's running around that toyota would see this slice of the market is prime for the taking

They want people to step up to the Cruiser's for front solid axels and hand over an additional 20-40k

although im the first to admit that im after flex to go places others cant, the IFS system is weak, and off road is next to useless
and im not saying that it should be dropped altogether, just an option, similar to back in the early nineties with the LN106 with the SR5(IFS) and base model(SFA)

i like it! only beef i had with the newer hilux's was the seats were shithouse (driving 4 hours to get to a land oil rig) definatly took their toll after 4 hours of tough roads..

apart from that im a fan.

New Ranger will be so much more for your money. Still can't understand the premium people pay for the toyota badge in this day and age

wow nothing has changed, these new dual cabs are coming onto the market with more equipment, especially safety equipment, more power/torque and drive nicer, hilux is same same and still a huge price premium over the competition, really disappointing.
i think they're relying too hard on their brand and it's gonna bite them in the arse if they don't do some decent upgrades, they'll still sell though cause so many people (and companies) are completely blind to the toyota badge and won't even try a competitor.

mining companies i suspect take up a whole lot of the sales of the hilux. thus they'll charge whatever they can.

Your a fucking Idiot, Next to no where? Dude, ive been across most of Australia in IFS vehicles, Ive takenbrand new hiluxes as far as mates with lifted and kitted out 4wd's.

Hate all you want, I doubt you've got 60k to shell out for a new diesel SR5, and i doubt you'd take your 60k car to the places youd take your non IFS 10k patrol.

These out sell everything, because they have awesome re sale, and are trusted in the market place!

Try getting anything but a Toyota or Nissan serviced in the North West.

They are a bit like windows for your pc. There are no doubt better products out there but everyone is used to them and they are the industry standard.

I hate ford with passion after owning one but the new Ranger is going to be a good thing however they have benchmarked it against Hilux so expect to see some healthy price rises. Also the Ford is going to be the only NCAP 5 star ute so read into that what you will with mining companies.

i live in the northwest and i'm seeing as many navara's, tritons, rangers, colorado's etc as i am hilux's now, work vehicles not included obviously.
private buyers are definately moving on and seeing as 90% of the people up here work on sites they drive toyota's everyday.
none of them have had any issues with servicing etc and warrenty work includes roadside assist which means if there is a problem a truck picks it up from your house or where you've broken down and takes it to the nearest dealer, nothing out of your pocket.
if mining companies were as safety conscious as they claim the safety rating of our work vehicles would be their number 1 priority, however we still have landcruisers and hilux's with airbags, abs and fuck all else, hell the cruisers don't even have abs.
amarok, navara and triton all come with stability control, side/curtain airbags and other safety features that take them to the 4-5 star range
so long as the fleet sales keep coming toyota don't have to touch shit, and won't.
they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Thsoe features aren't as desireable in minsight applications, mainly due to speed limits on sight, roll over protection and all the high vis stuff.

All the elctronics are great on road, but not nescesarily off road (there are exceptions)

really over toyotas. new camry, new corolla, new hilux are all the same. bland on the outside and the same build quality on the inside as a hyundai getz. The hilux has been going steadily down hill for years. The current Ranger is marginally better, havent had a close look at the colorado but the navara seems to better in most aspects. That said, this is based purely on design and fit out, I havent compared details specs on them. Im considering buying a dual cab next year when my lease runs out, and there is absolutely no way I would even look at a hilux!

A bloke from work as bought an Amarok and I'll be keenly checking it out as I probably going to need something that can tow the FD around. After the constant issues with my 200 Series, and the fact that I don't think the current crop of Hilux's & troopies can hold a candle to the older versions I don't think I'd want to fork out the premium for the Toyota badge. The Chinese people who run the company I work for decided to buy some Sangyongs for some unknown reason and they break down less than the tojos. Toyota doesn't deserve the business it gets.

EDIT : They should build this now !

I like the powerful 550Nm engine option the Navara has. I have been looking at the Isuzu D-Max also. I would prefer these over the current Hilux.

my biggest complaint about the current model v6 hilux is the exhaust, on the 4wd it is the lowest part of the vehicle and hangs a good 50mm lower than the chassis rails. Offroad it looks like it would take only one decent belly out on a rock and the exhaust would be crushed flat.
On the whole solid axle vs IFS debate i am yet to take my Patrol anywhere my old SR5 Hilux couldnt go BUT i will admit the Patrol does ride alot more level over the really uneven stuff purely due to the amount of flex the coil sus gives.

That 550 navara is the same crock of shit. Same car with same crappy commercial car spec build quality/interior fitout, a worse approach angle/longer wheel base due to front end changes with some more power and a steering wheel with stereo controls. Want one with leather seats and a decent stereo...... 72-74K.... on a dual cab...... Yes it has a 7 speed auto which I imagine would be nicer driving but that is a hell of alot of money. Ti patrol sort of dollars.

buy gu patrol, convert to 6l gen4 with 6 speed auto.

problem solved. steep 1st gear makes the auto awesome for pulling and cheap power adders later on.

I just said i liked the more powerful engine option. Didnt comment on anything else.

if i had the budget for a new dual cab, i'd get a 05+ gu and convert to duramax with the 6 speed allison.
all the off road ability, more towing grunt than you can throw a stick at, better economy than the zd30 and 12 second quarters, winning all round :D

Large thread hijack, but has anyone sussed out the new ford rangers on their way? Designed in aus, global platform, 3.2L 147kw 470nm 5cyl diesel option motor and way bigger than the current model. I don't think it looks half bad either going to check one out when they're released soon

Nothing there to get me excited about upgrading my 06 Hilux. Same shit, slightly different bucket.

Add me to the waiting on the auto Amamrok list, and hopefully with the 3.0 litre diesel as opposed to the 2.0.

Love the 550nm of the Navara, but could live with that shite plastic interior....although hilux not much better.
