Bought a present for my brother last night, so it was only fair that I get myself a present too, haha.

Bought this for myself:

http://www.brickpicker.com/images/set_images/brickpicker_set_42006_1.jpg

Completed it not long ago and have ordered this to add on to it:

http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images/AUTOIMAGES/LG8293lg.jpg

Next set I want is this:

I got the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 400 for Christmas, it was a present to myself. I must say it was the biggest Lego Technic kit I've ever made, getting drunk at the same time slowed down the progress.

That recycle truck is pretty cool, might get that later on, but I want that big crane truck first.

-Luke-
03-10-2013, 07:42 PM
I actually paid the same price for the U400 as i Did for the Reco Truck.

Took me about 12-14 hours to build the U400 great kit!

Gleeso
04-10-2013, 11:21 AM
It says on the box that the U400 was $325.00, but I think it was on special at Myer for $280.00 or something, not 100% sure, it's was a fantastic kit though.

I love how much detail there is that goes into just the knuckles for the wheels, for example. So cool!

Also, what are some alternative sites for purchasing Lego other than eBay? Preferably places that don't damages the boxes, it just annoys me.

-Luke-
04-10-2013, 12:14 PM
No Idea re alternate sites. I tend to bounce between one ebayer and big W when they have sales.

Another great site is www.bricklink.com

Can source shit from all over the word and with some of the larger kits can work out cheaper getting them overseas.

Gleeso
04-10-2013, 06:05 PM
Okay, so I just bought that Crane 42009 through ToysEtc and with free postage at the moment and the 5% off with first purchase coupon, it cost me $237.49 all up. MUCH cheaper than on eBay. Very pleased. :D

How's the postage direct from Sweden, Pete?

Pete

Think 1 of mine was free postage, was a year or so ago. The other wasn't too bad

I don't get the point of LEGO these days.
They're like 3D plastic jigsaw puzzles, rather than giving you basic building blocks, and letting you determine what you make.

Out of the "kits" you guys buy, how many other things can you make from it?

Normally with the bigger kits you can download another set of instructions to build 1 more thing

Gleeso
05-10-2013, 04:22 PM
Sometimes there's even more than the additional one design to build it into. For me though, I build what's on the front of the box, leave it that way and buy another, and so the cycle continues.

I went to garden city today for a haircut and saw all sorts of signs up for lego.... Got excited thinking they might be selling some rare or cool stuff. Turns out its just a few tables with bins of lego for kids to play at. Ic let down. They did have a small stand selling some cool books on lego though.

OK so you're really just building pre-planned 3D jigsaw puzzles. No wonder original LEGO pieces are so sought after.
I wondered if the strategy of purpose-built pieces would kill off versatility and consequently, imagination.

I current have:

- Lego Technic 8110 Unimog

That does look pretty awesome. I've wanted a lego porsche 911 for ages :p

They probably don't print on bricks because it would add far too much cost downstream for the consumer. Besides, who wants to build their own creations out of lego with random things printed on them?

My biggest issue is I am way to OCD with putting stickers on things, and if it is slightly crocked I actually just want to throw it all in the bin

rgvlee

Use soapy water to apply the stickers, literally allows some wiggle room to get it perfect.

If you screw it up you can always get a replacement sticker set from brick link. I did it for bennys spaceship to redo a couple I wasn't happy with.

Haha, it's hilarious to watch until one of my dogs tries to stomp it quiet.

Only thing I can think of that might help your situation would be back when you build the diffs, it asks you to exactly match the placement of the correct side of the yellow gear, so I think it's meant to mirror the other. Let me know if you get what I mean.

Another epic build:

It's that price because it's no longer available and it's a collectible set.
It wasn't that price to begin with, it was just shy of 1k AUD.

It's not the size of the model that makes the one in the image such a big deal, it's the detail. The official UCS lego one never had this much detail from the images I have seen.

I've recently built the new pirate ship from the relaunched pirates ranges (I used to have the original) and I've got the hulk buster to build which I'll do soon.

Old LEGO used to be purely about creativity - basic building blocks could become whatever you wanted.
Now with all the custom pieces in modern LEGO, it reduces that somewhat.

This...had my share of the 'Town' models when I was little...but the majority of my Lego were the massive bulk brick sets. Would build 1/20 scale houses with a 10 car garage/workshop.

I recently went back through all my old Lego, built everything up to figure out what was missing...been slowly ordering spares and the likes to get everything complete. Turns out some of them are worth a small fortune now.

Last but not least I've also had my eyes on the scooby doo mystery machine for a little while. It's been very hard to find so much so that people are selling them above rrp on gumtree etc.

http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll208/eight2ten/lego-technic-porsche-911-gt3-rs-3.jpg

""How does buying a brand new Porsche 911 for US$300 sound? Well now's your chance, because Lego has announced a new Technic model version of the car's GT3 RS variant. The 1:8 scale model measures 57 x 25 x 17 cm (22 x 10 x 7 in) and was developed in partnership with Porsche.

In a deft nod to the tactics used by carmakers to keep their new vehicles secret, Lego actually showed off the new model in black and white camouflage at the Nuremberg toy fair in January. Now, though, the full design has been unveiled and the model's color matches the bright orange of its big brother.

Lego has tried to design the Technic model with many of the features that give the 911 its identity. It mimics the smooth, curved and sloping design, the large front air intakes, the outlets on the front wheel arches and, of course, the big rear wing.

Among the more intricate features that you'd expect to find in a Technic model are a fully functional double-clutch transmission with four gears, a steering wheel with gearshift paddles, a six-cylinder flat (or boxer) engine with moving pistons, a detailed dashboard and a glove compartment containing a unique serial number, with which it will be possible to access additional content online. Additional features include doors and a hood that open, a trunk with a case, stickers to add accurate aesthetics and faithfully designed rims.

There are 2,704 pieces for building the model, which Lego explains are packed in individual assembly groups for the first time. This is apparently aimed at giving model builders an insight into the assembly process of the actual 911. A book with info about the development of the model is also provided.

The Lego Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS is priced at $299.99 in the US and €299.99 in Europe. It will be available online and in the 13 Lego stores in Germany and Austria from June 1. In other stores, it will be available from August 1.

The video below shows the Lego team introducing the kit.

I got one :D

My fiance and friend got me one for my birthday, express posted from a US ebay seller. It says on the box only to put onto the shelf on 1 June, but apparently they were all pulled too. Not cheap.

Not actual pic of mine:
http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/201604/this-lego-porsche-91_800x0w.jpg

Everything about is really awesome. The manual is a very thick booklet with detailed photos. It comes in five numbered boxes. All cars have a unique serial that is printed in the same style as the "vin".

Really is a master piece. Will need to put it together once I finish on the house and I have some space.

Have a read up on it, apparently there are a couple of simple fixes to make the gearbox work correctly.

I'm going to get one later in the year when all the fuss dies down.

Pull the part number off the build book and put into search on eBay , you can buy pretty much every piece in small quantities.

Not lego but lepin, have been building the Monarch Imperial Star Destroyer and am finally at a stage where I'm feeling like I'm making progress.

The set is almost 12k pieces, massive, and detailed.

What is should look like when I'm finished

https://i.imgur.com/lyLtx1A.jpg

Don't think I'll go back to Lego after this as the China knockoffs are similar quality for a fraction of the price - though you do need to make adjustments here and there (not overly complicated and has only ever been with connecting pins).

The Chiron is in the mail but will sit for a while.

There's a pretty active Lepin group on Reddit, and plenty of YouTube/Website reviews for various Lepin sets so you can be aware of any complications and get comfort on your purchase.
