Spotted yesterday on the way home
Speed camera setup in the back of a brand new white VW multivan.
http://images-2.drive.com.au/2010/08/20/1812420/Vw-multivan_420_m-360x0.jpg
you can see the red lense area and camera when you drive past through the back window. I then saw it flash at another driver.
not sure how long they have been using these but you've been warned now. They do look a bit out of place on the side of the road so it was pretty easy to spot, even more so than the xtrails.

Setup in WRX's?
Do tell
Yeah they had one tuesday last week on Woodrow Ave. I was driving past and thought "surely not", but I saw the red lense through the back window and the little box next to it. Plain white new hatchback Wrx.
Considering the need X-Trails and vans to run them currently, how are they squeezing them into a small hatch with a tiny rear window?
have seen them on the back of X trails and vans for quite a few weeks now, east pde in east perth always has them

Still easier to spot a late model car/van/4WD parked on the side of the road.
Having said that, I have seen a few of the vans setup behind bushes facing oncoming traffic (reverse facing camera).

XTrail with camera tucked in the back last night on Canning Hwy heading West up the hill before Stock rd. Was all contained in the rear compartment, a lot easier to spot than the normal setup of just a camera and the XTrail tucked in the bushes.
Boost was hit after passing.
Upside is im assuming these incar mounted fcukkers are only one directional?

yeah I've recently seen it in between north lake road and risely street heading east. Sneaky fucker parked it in behind a bus stop and set up rear facing
Just remember the rear facing ones can get you quite a way up the road, so stick to the limit till it is out of sight :-)

So, I wonder if the Police have factored in Snell's Law when operating Lidar camera's behind the glass or perspect screens? I bet they haven't. I'm certain someone will challenge a Lidar ticket from a camera operated from within one of these vehicles mentioned.
Spotted one of the X-Trails on Marmion av near Whitford City the other day parked in the cycle/emergency lane, kinda dangerous really, I wouldn't be real impressed if I was riding in the lane then had to get into the car lane (this is peak hr mind you) to get around it..

Spotted one of the Xtrails among all the parked cars at Karrakatta Cemetery this morning. Very cheeky.
The old multinovas had to be carefully positioned at a correct angle to the road, I wonder if the new laser units are as fussy i've seen the vans at all angles to the road, also wonder if each unit is calibrated for the glass/tint used in each vehicle or if they popo are using a "suck it and see" approach to scientific measurement.
Apparently speed camera operators don't need to display the speed camera sign if it's unsafe to do so ie. side of busy freeway.
The other day a camera operator placed his camera behind the bus stop outside Corpus on Murdoch Drive then backed the van up the hill behind trees in the park. If it's safe for the operator to place the camera near the road side then it was obviously safe enough to place a sign. I love when the set camera at school zones instead of safe sections of road but the camera and/or sign is meant to be a visual deterrent to slow down speeding drivers, if they can't see either than the camera is purely revenue raising.

It might just be me but I fucking hate these new non flash cameras. Atleast when it flashed you were like OH FUCK and slowed down. Atleast in some small way it was contributing to slowing you down even for 5-10 minutes, but with these new ones you don't even notice. You just get a fine in the mail and your like WTF? I don't remember speeding. Also atleast when they flashed you could look at your speed, if you WEREN't speeding you could note time and place and your speed etc. Now you have no clue. It is simply a grab for cash, it in no way slows anyone down whatsoever.

It does flash, you just can't see it. From the Vitronic user manual:
The images captured by the PoliScan camera module are processed by VITRONIC’s ALPR software package for the identification of multinational number plates. The infrared illumination of the systems allows day and night operations of the system. The infrared flash is invisible for the human eye and does not cause any driver distraction.

This! Do not turn either K or Ka off, just turn X and pop off for now.
Better still invest in a laser jammer. From experience laser detectors are shit, general warning is next to nothing, Even V1 that is suppose to be the best on laser is late at picking up the new cameras, and forget about guns, your done when you get the warning.

I drive 100km a day to/from work from the hills right across the city and could count on one hand the number of cameras ive seen in the past 6 months
Ever since the old multanovas started to be replaced there has been almost nothing? Hence me wondering if there are no more non-laser devices around
And it isnt because im just not spotting them as the V1 wouldve picked them up, and my letter box has remained free from fines (touch wood)

Some laser jammers are marketed as parking sensors. They coincidentally operate on the same wavelengh of 904nm which is the same as laser camera's and hand held laser guns.
The benefit of WAPol operating the Vitronic device is that it is easy to jam.

I wonder if they will be more lenient on lower range speeding (i.e. <9km/h over)?
(Since my cars have speedos which operate on "this is approximately your speed", don't have the liberty of an accurate digital speedo and have no cruise control)

The jammer i think you're referring to alerts to the laser but cannot jam the Vitronic Poliscan as the manufacturer never provided a software update to defeat the Poliscan, from what i've read in the past this was due to this Jammer manufacturer getting all it's software from another well known manufacturer,at some point before the Poliscan was released they decided to no longer share there software updates with the parking sensor based jammer company so they were left high and dry.
Even the jammers that can defeat the Poliscan are having a really hard time consistently jamming them from the rear even with 2 heads placed at 30degrees and 2 at 45degrees.

Wish that was true but far from it I'm afraid. The problem with the Vitronics Poliscan is offaxis detection, the laser is scanning horizontally constantly, the algorithm is so advanced that even a scan from the rear side of your car it can calculate your speed, only 10 samples are required 10 speed samples (that take 0.1 sec) and a fine in the mail. There are people on radar detector.net forum with jammers that have had a fine in the post also with 4 heads on the back at different angles, laser veil on number plate lights etc to minimise there IR signature and still have been fined.
Slightly off topic, but I swear I a helmet-mounted radar on a cop bike today. He was quite obviously fixating his head on each car coming past (in a roadworks zone) and there was something attached to the left-side of his helmet.
Anyone else seen something similar, or heard of it?
