hi
bit out of the ordinary but im after a 2004 mazda 3 sp23 motor, old one is fucked. still dunno whether to rebuild or try my luck finding a motor
am hoping to find someone that is wrecking one ...
if anyone can point me in the right direction or can help me out it would be much appreciated!
thanks!
What's wrong with the old one?
If it sounds like a big end knock, it could just be the butterfly valves in the intake manifold clacking away.. sounds identical to a spun big end!

yea it sounds like big end, mite get it looked at properly
Unplug the electrical connector for the manifold tumble valves and if it stops, problem solved.
My wifes old sp23 had same noise, i thought it was big end. Started pulling injector plugs to see if the sound went away and ended up pulling that one out by accident, and the noise stopped. I then googled it and found that the issue was common.
Here you go.. i googled it for ya.
The rattle/Knock sound from the engine.... on the SP23 engine there is 2 vac solenoids mounted right at the top of the intake manifold. try clamping both vac lines with pliers, or unplugging the solenoid and see if the noise goes away.. if it does, then it is just the tumble valve shaft having movement in the obviously worn plastic manifold. not sure exactly what a new manifold is worth, but from mem well over $1000. if thats the issue, turn the stereo up or leave the vac lines clamped. i personally have'nt noticed any difference driving a car with the lines clamped.

If you need a brand new one jump on FDRX7.com and search for DAZDA he's a parts guru for Mazda and no one in Australia does the deals he does on brand new parts (next to no dealer mark up at all).
(Don't mention me BTW... :p)
