Are you one of those people that lives in the past? claiming stuff was always better before the new generation ruined it? "Man these show used to be all about the metal, now it's soft!"

No, not one that lives in the past, and yeah there are some good bands in that line up. Chimaira, Machine Head, Mastodon, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Devin Townsend Project, Hatebreed and Slipknot (to an extent). Then you think why the fuck is Cobra Starship on that list? Some pop rock that no-one gives a fuck about? Or Limp Bizkit, who still think its 1998 and releasing the same shit over and over.

All festivals do it, they start out with massive line ups, then through the years, the line ups start to lack. The two headline acts, System of a Down and Slipknot. System as a band have done nothing in 4 years. Each member went and did their own thing. Slipknot have released an album, one member has died but they've toured continuously for the last 2 years, but they are second to SOAD.

Coal Chamber, as much as I loved them back when I was a teenager, only reformed to play Soundwave after Dez finally cleared the sand from his vagina and made nice with his former bandmates. After these shows, they'll disband again and that's it.

I'm not saying this will be shit, but the quality is declining each year. I'm sure those that are going will have shitloads of fun, and so you should. But just not impressed with the line up compared to previous years.

mc68
08-10-2011, 06:34 PM
I think because SOAD havent toured for 4 years, or toured in aus after mezmerise/hypnotize. That the frenzy around them is warranted. Lets just hope they still have it..

the day started pretty shitty for me, get there just before 11am, wait until 12pm to get in :-/ resulting in me missing one of the main bands i wanted to see.
in past SW's it's been like a 15 minute line hasnt it? or was it always like this?

mostly stayed around stage 4 and 6 this year, checked out CKY (spotted bunno iain) and Unwritten Law, play a few songs i knew.

slipknots fans, well lol, but fuck, the band themselves put a hell of a show on.

was torn between Trivium or Hatebreed as their times clashed, chose Hatebreed, was not let down. FUCKING BRUTAL.
then i read later that trivium had bad sound, as i suspected, as they generally are pretty sloppy live.

Machine Head... showing why they are a headlining band, great show.

ONE THING I FUCKING DESPISED THIS YEAR.
the big ass C shape of the venue ... what happened to the paths between stages etc?
the 10 minute walk between stage 4 and 6 could of been cut so much shorter if they had put a path there

[Joe spec essay]

I'll just point out a few things first. Someone complained about the door price. The Soundwave festival is a fundraising festival. Anything that is made ON THE DAY goes to a charity. Doorsales, cloakroom and 'excess' alcohol purchases are all donated.

The line at the start this year was because of the build up and 9000 people wanting to enter at the times gates opened. The entrance gates they used are the same as the BDO use and they are the biggest bottlenecking entrances i've ever seen. This will be looked at and hopefully fixed for next year.

The layout of the event was not for the ease of the punters. The path between stages 4 and 6 is used so the bands and staff can go to each stage without having do deal with the punters. There was no other way to design that site to hold 40,000+ people and 7 set stages. A piss off yes, but i'd prefer the extra stages, the band variety and have an extra 10min walk.

I myself went to this festival as a punter(almost) I did some work for Production so was able to use my pass to get between stages and areas easier (sux2buTocchi :P)

I saw Black Dahlia Murder, Hellyeah, Limp Bizkit, Staind, the end of Slipknot and walked away from SOAD. I was drinking all day, i got sunburnt and i am feeling worse for wear at work today. But i had the best festival day and i feel sorry for the organisers because i have no idea how they will top that line-up next year.

Yeh was a sick day. It sucked that CKY and Unwritten law were playing at the same time as steel panther. I watched most of steel panther but then couldn't find stage 3 and when I did I only managed to catch half a song by unwritten law (doh!)
Thursday put on a hell of a show since it was there last show ever before disbanding so it was good to catch that!
Slipknot put on one of the best shows I have seen.
I, like alot of people, walked away from SOAD. Boring as fuck.
Angels and Airwaves were ok except Tom didn't seem all that interested in interacting with the crowd, except fr a few clap gestures to the crowd. I wish they would just stick Travis on a boat and bring what we all want - the REAL Blink 182.

One thing that almost managed to ruin the day was the fact I forgot my license and despite the fact I am CLEARLY over 25 they wouldn't give me a wristband, drew one of those stupid under 18 crosses on my hand and seemed to get some enjoyment out of the fact I wouldn't be drinking. Its nanny-state bullshit gone overboard, its a different story if you look 18 but FFS I clearly am old enough.
Anyway I managed to sort out a wristband because I don't take no for answer but that pissed me off a bit. Next time I will clearly remember my ID, but FFS I have a mortgage AND a kid, I NEED a fucking drink.

Lostprophets, limp bizkit & SOAD were the ones I went to see, none disappointed. Met all of lostprophets & got a cd booklet signed, said they will be back for their upcoming cd Weapons, hopefully they didn't just say that to make me happy :p limp bizkit were probably on at the worst time cos the sun had taken it's toll on most people to go with the energy (people towards the back, in the mosh was insane) but still put up
A good show, and a good tribute to Jessica, also had her dad there too. SOAD had to follow slipknot who were intense, but they brought it home. Sultans of swing mix up into the intro for Suite Pee was cool haha

SircatmaN
06-03-2012, 11:44 AM
Of I forgot A day to remember, fucking sick and probably the funniest part of the day. We went to go into the mosh but they closed it right infornt of us becaus eit was full so they shuffled us to the stage 2 mosh and we were right on the fence. Watching people jump across and fight off security was hilarious. Especially the guy that turned to security and the crowd backed him and the 3 indian security guards pissed themselves and ran hahaha.

Also funny as the guys that climbed the towers getting pelted by bottles. I was kinda hoping after all the effort to get them down SOAD would come out and be like "CLIMB UP THOSE FUCKING TOWERS" but no the lead singer looks likes hes turned into some weird ass preppy kent.

Another awesome event
Got there about 3 to hear one of the bands I wanted to see finish their last song, despite them supposed to have only been starting, was stage 3 I think, they fucked the times up somewhere.
After that it was A day to remember who were awesome as always, then it was ti In this Moment and Kitty, both awesome female vocalists, both went fucking hard, shame they had 30 min sets.
I feel Limp Bizkits tribute was just a publicity stunt, they didn't give a fuck when the incident happened. Still titties made up for this :)
Manson seemed off chops, stumbling n shit, muttering rubbish.
Slipknow went off, we were right up close to the stage and still had bulk room, I saw most of their set before my back called it quits after the 2nd festival in a row for me, that and being old, saw the start of Machine Heads set, they went hard straight off the bat, then walked around to SOAD, who were disappoint really, so boring and mellow, I liked Serge when he was a crazy Junkie :)

In terms of shit venue and layout, I used to complain till I did Future the day before at Joondalup, so fucking crammed in, worst venue ever.
The plus side of Claremont is that with so many stages and distance between them means its never so bad you get squashed and can barely move.
There were plenty of shortcuts, mostly they were the over 18 area which had 2 entry/exits, cut the time in half using them between the back stage and main stages.

JAM3S
06-03-2012, 01:21 PM
Limp biskit was awesome so many titties! Slip knot put on one hell of a performance they should have closed the main stage IMO, like others said SOAD was shit left and went to angels and airwaves. Couldn't get their till 6pm , managed to watch most of Trivium who were awesome. Then Black Label Society (big zakk fan) then waltzed over to watch slipknot finish and SOAD. Soad sound was a disaster, moderately better as they played but way to much bass drum and no presence in the guitars. They took a while to warm up, but was worth hanging around, show definitely got better! Had a ball albeit only for a few acts, interesting to see how they top this year!!!

About 3:30 there was Some guy making an absolute cock of himself trying to fight about 10 security guys, head butting, kicking and punching them , then once they had him on the ground he started to spit on them. So they finally picked Him up to carry him outside and he thrashed around like a fish out of water until they dropped him a few times. They then picked him up and carried him in the other direction. Would assume its the same guy. Not Defending them if they actually did take him to the tent and fuck him up but the guy was a fucking tosser and I don't envy their job.
