I'm looking to purchase these from Jay Car - thoughts, opinions & experiences with down lights please

...already have someone lined up to fit them...just wondering on opinions from those who have done down lights or install them

Thanks in advance!

110 to 130 lumens is pretty shit for the money you pay.

I just got a bunch of these off ebay...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130566988493?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Same price and 760 lumens and runs straight 240V. no messing around with transformers.

Already hooked one up temporarily for testing and it seems promising. Still not quite as nice as a good ol 50watt halogen downlight. But at least 90% as good.

Yeah, they are very good. Did heaps of research and the ones I linked are some of the best value ones I could find.
You can get brighter LED downlights but then the price increases rapidly and they aren't very compact. Requiring a larger hole to be cut in the ceiling.

I hooked them up at a mates place to compare directly to his halogen downlights. The light appears just as bright but has a smaller beam spread. The colour temp is nice too. Warm just like the halogens. And because they are LEDs, they make fuck all heat.

I bought 10 of them just to do some feature areas like the kitchen and bathrooms.

You are welcome to come around to check them out in person to see if youd like them.

I put a few posts in the "cool shit you bought" thread a few months ago - comparing most MR16 leds against the 50w halogens etc.
Im a very pro led advocate and so too is Rob [volatile]

There are many available on the market today, ranging from:
simple dome LED
SMD LED (varients)
CREE LED
SSC P7 LED

SSC P7 are by far the strongest and brightest I have seen - with an output of 1200lm from a single bulb

Other things to consider:
light temperature - measured in K (Kelvin scale)
light angle etc.

most LEDs dont give off much heat but the brighter the lm (lumens) the more heat is dissipated.
The SSC-P7 leds do get hot!

problem with that light above is there not really aus standard, single insulated active and neutral conductors, you have to put them in a junction box to make them comply in a roof space, plus all the drivers ive seen like that have been rubbish, burntout quickly

im also experimenting with LEDS, i started of with mr16 3w's which were allright, ive just purchased some cheap CREE mr16 9W lamps of ebay also and there pretty bright and getting closer to a halogen light output

Talk to Tom (SSICK). He will hook you up.

If you want quality though you need to spend around $100 per light. My lights retail for $180 each but due to some contacts (not tom) i got them for around the $85 mark. I needed 44 of them.

Just so you know....it is illegal if any single core cable sheath is showing outside of a junction box, those jaycar lights will need a junction box at every fitting, if they dont and your house burns down....good luck getting insurance.

Tom ill think i will get you in to do this...id much prefer a qualified electrician doing it all to spec for reasons you have mentioned above...your quote matches my Iraqi unqualified former bomb maker any how...and with a brand new house in play id much rather it not go up in flames - will get in touch this week to discuss - thankyou kindly!!

Tom's work at AKF6's house was amazing. LED's really do perform well when you get quality ones & save a pretty penny come electricity bill time!
