Hey,

The GFs car caught fire today which is weird, it's an 08 Lancer and it started infront of passenger foot well. Thinking it started at the heater or fusebox behind glovebox.

Anyone know anyone who specializes or will be able to repair this kind of thing?

It was put out by a good samaritan driver who had a fire extinguisher thankfull so it didnt spread from behind the glovebox/fusebox sort of area.

I assume it wont be cheap as a fair bit of wiring will be melted. Hoping a large chunk of what is fucked it a replaceable loom/fusebox 1 piece from mitsubishi. I could replace that easily enough if that's the case but I'd like a sparkie to have look at the rest and fix, as I don't want to catching fire again obviously.

Cheers.

I would be getting in touch with mitsi - dont they have 5 year warranty?

It was bought as a repairable writeoff haildamaged for cheap. Assuming that would void warranty as there is no proof that it was or was not flooded.... even though it's been fine, wasn't flooded and has run well since it was bought just after the hail storm.

Will give them a call.

Should have mentioned that. But will call anyways and see what they say - thanks for the idea

If no warranty, insurance will cover it.

Wasn't insurance a gamble with these hail-damaged cars, with some insurers refusing to insure?

Bought a Mazda 3 from hail damage auctions, had no drama insuring it once re-licensed.

+1 i thought that it could only be third partied, but Turbo2.6L went alright so i guess not.

Why would a damaged car that has been repaired to a suitable level (enough for licensing) be un-insurable?

you can insure a previously hail damaged but now repaired vehicle on full comprehensive, no problems.

if its still hail damaged & registered, you would be extremely lucky to get anything more than third party.

...the car might not even be insured for full comp for all we know lol, so yeah all of the above is irrelevant (except for 1jznoshits post which I just spotted :p) - or might not have any insurance on it at all (well not fire/theft)

Yarp as some of you said it was a pingpingpingping to get anyone to cover it for even 3rd party fire and theft. They offered only 3rd party property damage.

I don't really understand this as they could just insure it for the purchase price which was obviously a lot cheaper than a new one, it's not like you'd crash it into a wall and demand a brand new lancer/whatever car.

It's at Mitsi now, it's touch and go - it's a 3yr warranty and only 5yr IF the first buyer asked/registered for it. That also shits me, it's not like someone would be like "fuck i'll just take 3 years eh"... just another procedure to go through to get 5 year coverage. They took the VIN before i got it towed and said we're covered from roadside assist (5yrs also) and that it 'should' be under warranty... then again they will now inspect it and either say it's not warranty issue or it's not covered.
I know at the bike shop we were told to try as hard as possible to refuse warranty as it's paid for by manufacturer at cost price and makes zero dollars and robs bulk productive time.

Fingers crossed. If they say hail damage caused it/voids it i'll be arguing the point as the storm was >1.5 years ago now and i can't see how a non-flooded car would be affected like this. Even a flooded car... almost 2 years ago : /

I'll hope for the best and expect the worst. Offshore on sunday too so that won't make dealing with them much easier.

Yep. It's not good but it's way it is sadly.
