hey guys,
so im making a tray for my daily work ute (definently not a 'mini-truck') after its had rear end damage, and im undecided on which type of tray i should go for.
its a 93 D21 navara single cab, and currently its got a well body tray. i could put a flat tray on it, but i would prefer to keep it as a well body.
unfortunately finding another single cab well body tray for a D21 is pretty much impossible.
at the moment ive come accross a king cab tray which is a bit shorter, which may work.
problem is the wheel archs would obviously need to be placed over the wheels, which would mean the tray would sit back from the cab, due to the shorter tray. this would leave a big gap (around 300mm) between the cab and the tray.
sorta like this;

the other thing is my ute is on lpg so i could use this gap to encase the gas bottle (leave it bottomless for venting) but i would need to make the sides blend with the body, use the same body lines etc. otherwise it will just look out of place.
ive seen custom toolboxes on Utes in similar situations, utilizing the gap, and the sides were bent up out of checker plate.
either that or i could cut sections out of the old wellbody to 'extend' the shorter tray.
or i could just suck it up and make a flat tray.
what do you guys think? im sort of after the method that will be the most cost effective, and which would need the least amount of fab work.
