You'll find a small following from Antilag.
There's a few of us who lurk back to their metal head teen years.
I myself been listening to alot of SYL and the Devin Townsend project in leadup to Soundwave.
This is one of my favourites from SYL - AAA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aOy7bEkbCU
Also will enjoy a few of the mainstream acts, as they were what pulled me into the music in highschool. SOAD/Slipknot/LimpBizkit/Hellyeah etc etc

I am still stuck in the late 90's early 00's with my metal tastes. Machine Head, Pantera (though their real early stuff isn't the best), a bit of Carcass, Cradle of Filth, Fear Factory.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0XrKF19yzE
And I was fucking stoked the other day when someone at work had a couple of Allegiance's albums. ANy old Perth metal heads remember them?

They are interesting, to say the least.
this guy gives a good review of a live show of theirs.
I guess you would have to be there to "get it".

Haha! They are renegades man! Art in it's purest form, don't listen to the haters out there! A few fun facts:
- They started as a tribute band to Earth
- Earth, the pioneers of drone/doom metal from the early 90's
- They're named after the brand of amplifiers Earth used; Sunn o))) Model T. Hands down the best amplifiers ever made. They are extremely rare and sought after, you won't find one easily in Aus or at all.
- Earth lead guitarist/song writer Dylan Carlson was best mates with Kurt Cobain, he actually bought the shotgun that Kurt used to off himself.
I saw Sunn o))) & Boris (Crazy Jap experimental rock band, one of my favs!) back in '08 I think it was, and holy shit they were something else. Words cannot explain. They bummed out the entire room BIG time. The people that stayed til the end were like slouched against the walls with their heads between their knees (I'm not exaggerating). Me, I was struggling to breathe and stand up straight coz of the airwaves lol. There was like a constant pressure against your chest. One of the best things i've ever seen in a messed up kinda way... That guy does a pretty good job of describing it actually. Haha, made me reminisce!
For those interested; Old Earth:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p34zA9wTRig
New Earth. They reformed in like the 2000's with a way more mellow sound with an actual band, drums, keys etc. It's fucking sweet, been digging it a lot lately;

Some goodies and baddies posted so far. All down to personal taste I guess - I'm not so much of a fan of the full-on screaming metal where it's nigh impossible to understand the lyrics, which is probably why.
Couple of my all-time favourites:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QcXVnyiQjBE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
http://youtu.be/oxsB9dKHvUg (Embedding disabled, unfortunately).
Much preferred the direction KSE went with the introduction of Howard as a replacement for Leach, who screamed a little too much for my liking... Now that Howard has left (only a couple weeks ago, actually), it'll be interesting to see how the band progresses once more.

LOL, 'Alive or Just Breathing' is the most copied sound in the metalcore vein - nearly perfection. Soilwork is like pop-80's metal, for ever!
Screaming and growling have grown in leaps and bounds since the days of 'death'....

Thanks for posting Allegiance, my cuppa tea - sort of the style i prefer, cant stand screaming or songs that are too thrashy. Just like it Heavy and hard with a good riff.
Havent really found anything recently that i like enough to really get into, but some bands that are getting my attention
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rXWaVz4yogI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
from the tv show Metalocalypse, the band called Dethklok have a few albums, alot of killer tracks in there 2 albums, 2nd one has alot more pearlers.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/sJ3kVtd2CCA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Love Rammstein, alot more anthem like songs, riffs are good and might be more industrial than metal but it seems to tick the boxes for me.

After The Burial, anybody? As schnoods put, these guys are heavy with good riffs, and they play 8 strings at the moment, so it's a huge sound. I worry about future generation guitarists, with the rising pressure to play more and more fuckin' strings. If I have a kid who wants to play guitar they'll probably have to get robotic fingers to reach across the fret board.
Pretty much what everyone said when 7 strings became popular back in the late 90s, but 6 strings are still going strong.
Pretty sure you can get 9 string guitars from some guitar makers now....

Bit of a different one, Hawk Eyes are a band that just go hard and flat out, singing is quite different but sounds quite awesome with their type of music. Used to be called Chickenhawk but due to copyright and the reference to men who pray on younger men their name change might've been a good thing.
