Did I lane split past this thing on kewdale rd orrong intersection at about 345 this afternoon? It is one odd looking bike. I don't see the point in keeping the mirrors, 'to keep the boys in blue happy', with that fender eliminater lol.

On Supermotojunkie.com there is a build up of a bike from the UK. The builder has taken a CR125 road rego'd it, put supermoto wheels on, single sided VRF swingarm then just for a laugh chucked a worked CR500 engine in!!!! Thing would be fucking mental on the road!!

Doubt their TL frames, You'd keep the V twin engine in there if you based on that bike. They definitely have inline 4 engines in there. I still think late model r1's goin of the tank on the blue one, the inlet hole in the top of the frame plus the year drop engine mount.

most bikes will paint lines, pop clutch violently enough with weight over the front and will spin up. Only advantage of the Busa is the longer wheel base

Whats the go with clothing? Full leathers required?
I heard from the guy selling it that you need to do some things to the bike like tape up bar ends and put on a catch can etc. What are the facts considering you go there lol
mr_mike
31-07-2013, 12:27 PM
Safety gear u need is full leathers be that a 2 piece that zips together or a one piece, MX or Road boots that cover the ankle, Helmet, gloves that cover the wrists and a back protector.
As for bike prep u can go in the street group so u can just rock up and ride so long as bike is safe ie: no oil leaks, tread on tyres and throttle shuts quickly when released. But i would suggest getting some bark busters to protect levers and axle sliders (2 skateboard wheels and some threaded rod works well). If you want to go in the fast group your bike needs to be full race prep so water in rad, sealed catch can, tie wire all sump and filter bolts, axle sliders, peg sliders and any excess road gear removed.

Just picked this girl up last week for my first bike, (Only got my R-E last Monday)
I struggled to find a bike in the lams class that suited me, I wanted something reliable but with still enough power to get me through my first year of restricted license.
After trying a few including a Hyo 650r, I chose this because it ticked most of the boxes I wanted in my first bike.
It is nothing compared to the bikes you blokes all have but just thought i'd show anyway, Enjoying being on 2 wheels and do have a few small ideas on what i want from this bike.
So here it is, Honda VTR250, Carby model.

After a bluetooth headset so me and the missus can speak when I am shadowing her on rides/talk when she gets her licence. Anyone got a cheaper system they can recommend? Are there any that allow for a music input that cuts out when you are speaking/spoken too with a delayed restart of music so it get in the way of a conversation.

07 R1
to many cosmetic mods to list but the main performance ones are full titanium Akro exhaust, K&N Filter, PC3 and SATO rearsets. Dyno's 162rwhp at Chain Reaction Cycles on a 40deg day and the line is smooth as fuck no big drop off about 10,000rpm that this gen R1 is common for. Mostly do do with emmision and sound level controls but the full exhaust overcomes this.
Just gonna chuck a quickshifter on and the bike is perfect!!
Looks mint Mike! would sound rather orsm with the full tit akro!!

yeah they sound awesome on the noise, and have a sweet burble as u shut the throttle and engine brake.
Very nice Mike. R1 & Akro <3

from what i have read the cuurent breed of big bang R1's are really sluggish down low so much so that people struggle to wheelie them in the lower gears. The power has been made really linear but it seems to be at the sacrafice of power. BUT with some tuning they can be made to be pretty wild
interesting, i always thought the 09+'s had much better bottom/midrange over the 08's but less top end..
either way, hot bike, will be a blast to ride :D

Nice Pickup Mike, looks like it comes with all the bits you'd want. got a friend moving a HM quickshifter, is second hand... but just used as a test on his bike. let me know if you want more details.

Can confirm... the 09+ is much more sluggish low - mid in comparison to the 07/08's. (comparing stock/stock)
I went -1/+1 sprockets on my 07. Massive difference with response down low and bounces up in 1st and 2nd with ease.
mr_mike
22-10-2013, 08:54 AM
shouldnt need to bounce up a R1 or any litre bike for that fact, in 1st and 2nd should come up on power alone!!! mine caught me yesterday, used to riding the 636 where u can get back on the throttle mid corner and power out. Tried that on the R1 got on the power to early while still leaned over front came up and done a big power wheelie out of a corner still leaned over, would of looked flash as fuck but i was shitting myself!!

1987 BMW R65
Picked it up in April. Previous owner did a complete restoration and engine rebuild. Spent 15k on parts and labour alone and gave up before towards the end of the project.
Got it shipped down from Brisbane to Sydney, finished off minor bits and got it regod/
Sorry about the shit pic, will post more if you guys are interested.
So the progress on my track car will slow down this year...but it has been worthwhile.

I admit yes it isn't an 848 or 675 but when the sales guy pushed it out into the sunlight I was sold. Great LAMS bike thus far, my only gripe is that there is too much slack at 0 throttle so as you go to roll it back on through the corner it can be a little unsettling. I will ask the dealership if they can sort it out.
After 12 hours of owning it the back end was apart, the wife was not happy about it at first but after the FE kit went on she also agreed that the trail bike fender and hand rails had to go.

Can quicken throttle response be putting a larger wheel inside the throttle housing on the bar, cheap way is to put a cable tie around it. Being LAMS though I wouldn't bother, you will get used to it soon enough.

really u gotta weigh up if its worth having a fender elim on there, u cant see it while u ride, it makes absolutely no effect to performance or handling all it does is gives cops a reason to pull u over. its the first thing they look for when they see a bike
You have a point there. It is pure aesthetics, the only other mod may be pipes but I am in no hurry.

DTC, new fuel mapping and an aluminium tank... iirc Ohlins were fitted to the 1198s/corse and Showa were fitted to the 1198.
pulled 160hp at the rear with the termi map.

Other than the steep price, i like the 1X98 shape better the the Pani. Undertail pipes, wanky exposed dry clutch, no electrical gremlins.... but still has DTC.
I knew i wanted a Ducati, the aggressive obnoxious behaviour is what im after... I was really considering the the black 2014 1199s, but for 36k stock its a lot of coin for a bike that a lot of people already have (in 3 different colours). I wanted something a little less seen around Melbs. This particular one already had all the bits i wanted, the colour scheme i prefer over the pani tri-colour.

Kwaka brakes are notoriously shit.
Spend ~$500 (Brembo M/C, braided lines, and good fluid) and it will feel like a new bike.
Really just a tidy weekend warrior is what I'm after.
It's pretty original at the mome besides -1 + +1 sprockets which I'm happy with.
I've got a gear indicator and speedo healer on the way.
Bit of paint to sort out next, it's been dropped onto the LHS while stationary. Any recommendations Dan?
Brakes seem ok to me so far but haven't really had the chance to give them a good workout. Will keep the Brembo's in mind!
Keen to have a go down the plex and maybe even Barbs at some stage.

There is a few cheaper options for brakes using master cylinder etc of other bikes. CBR/GSXR.
05's were pretty notorious for going end over end, front will come up gentle, gentle them BAM and your over! Pretty wild bikes by all accounts, viscous power curve, 150-160rwhp and shit brakes!!!!

Here's my Sunday Special, 97 748 that I picked up a few months ago. The previous owners neglected her so there was a lot of rusting fasteners and dodgy panels.
With a bucket load of new fasteners, some carbon, some billet bits and a new tail fairing she's starting to look quite nice.

It's the cheaper Annatori still made by HM but doesn't have same amount of adjustment ie: no kill time, Rpm range etc.
My only complaint is it works on down shifts as well so took a little while to adjust my riding style to suit, but combined with reverse shift I love it

So after riding for a while I've done a few things to the Breakout, had 3inch front control extensions fitted so legs arent as cramped, also had it lowered 1.5 inches.
Plastidipped the rear fender brackets black too.

Can you link the shifter you have for me to have a look at?

I got mine of ebay for about $300 from memory. Its a very basic setup, plugs inline to the coil packs with a small control box that has 1 button you press to select one of 3 sensitivity settings. I went straight to most sensitive on mine. Due to undertail pipes the R1 gets very hot in the rear subframe and there has been no issue with teh control module or sensor

cheers mate, I think after my ride on the weekend it's been a good decision. for me it was between the daytona 675 (after being talked out of a 600 I was looking at), a 749 or an 848. it was just this popped up at a price I couldn't refuse.

be careful with the MV F3, alot of them don't have the upgrade engine mapping and have pretty shocking throttle mapping. Mate test rode two one for few years old had the new mapping then rode a brand new one and didn't have it.

No I'm not having a go at you, as I'm sure you're not at me (mostly hehe). I've read a lot of your posts and you are easily 1000 times more experienced on the road than I!
And yes, I still have a fairly decent sized strip because my new bike has only got 9kms on it. All I've done on it so far is ride from Mack 1 Midland to Jane Brook. Still yet to get some proper heat into the tyres (and brakes) so I can remove the shiny shit before I get stuck into it. Still got all the new bike smells coming off the cleaning products, out the exhaust, etc. It has been awhile and I know it's far from the same thing, but I've got a reasonable amount of dirt bike experience, just fark all on sealed roads with cagers to avoid. That's where my learning curve comes in, roadcraft, emergency braking in varying weather and of course the aforementioned dumb shits who are out to kill me. Riding along William St for work this morning and this arse decides to just pull out of a parking spot out of the blue, I hit the brakes and next thing bikes on me sliding and I hit his car.
Lucky I wasn't going at speed as I walked away, pretty lucky/happy I must say.
He had the balls to yell at me saying I was speeding then a large number of people (gotta love some humans) started abusing him telling him I was fine but he pulled out of nowhere and was in the wrong.
He lives literally outside where it happened (Britannia on William St - Backpackers).

You don't "earn" chicken strips, the idea is to loose them. ie. the smaller they are the better because as you corner faster you get closer to the edge of the tyre and have a smaller chicken strip until you are a super cool mad pingpingpingping and can ride like Rossi and have none at all.
It's an utter pile of wank but it is what it is. Pulled up at the shops one day with a new tyre that had only been up and down the freeway a few times. Random guy tells me I need to do a track day to learn how to get rid of the chicken strips. csb.
Don't stress about it, just enjoy and ride within your limits.
Now if we are going compare flow rates from our Japs eyes, here is a photo of one I prepared earlier.

& Nik, perfect exapmle of why protection is so important, even at low speed had you been waring shorts and a t shirt you would be a lot worse off, bike can be fixed. Ground off skin cannot. That bike will certainly be fixable, all cosmetic. The cost of doing so will deem whether or not insurance writes it off. Farings are expensive.

LoL track tyres dont count :P
But you're right it is all wank, another thing to consider is that tyres are different shapes and that has a huge effect on how close to edge you can get. 2CT was a low profile fat tyre and could run that off the edge easy S20's are a lot taller give way quicker tip in but you practically have to be scraping a indicator to get them to the edge

A good rider can get to the edge on any modern tyre easily.

etc etc etc....I merely pointed out that the way the term chicken strips was used made it sound like something you earn.
All good in da hood, I meant it as like earning your wings when you fly, as I said, phrased completely ass about. Newb squid..
Now for another topic. I work away 2 weeks on, 1 week off. I've already checked and centre stands for the Ninja 300 don't exist unless you weld mounts onto the frame and bolt a suitable one in. I am not the biggest fan of the kick stand on the garage concrete floor so if I was to invest in a rear stand and spools to make it more stable for extended lay ups and chain maintenance would that be the best idea or are there other ideas/parts you people are using or have heard of?

Normal paddock stand + spools is the way to go.
If space is tight these are great, we have them on our bikes and they make moving them about the workshop very easy.

Space isn't really an issue but that's heaps cheaper than the Pit Bull branded ones out of the USo'A
Oh good, I just bought a white 2014 Ninja 300 to earn my chicken strips on. 9kms on it so far.... Using instructors bike for test next Thursday at Midland (just brought forward from 14/04) provided he is free. Hasn't responded to my call yet. Otherwise I'll be organising a shadow and I'll take the new bike and do it on that.
Hit me up if you want to know exactly what to do and the route for the Midland RE test. I still remember it and it hasnt changed in the past few years.

Any of you chaps had experience with the panel shop - Motorcycles Panel & Paint?
If my bike is repairable its going to them - or does anyone have any recommendations on a place to take?
