Ahhaha sorry, been out riding all afternoon now, just got back in 30mins or so ago. Yes, passed, barely! Stalled on Gt Northern lol straight away put right foot down, double fuck. Ended up with 3.75 points so scraped in by 0.25. Stupid shit I've not been doing and I let the nervousness win a little bit. Touched the curb at the start of the o turns as I was positioning for the first I one haha did about a 8 or ten and it was good. Did 2 e stops because the first one was 11.5m (and the worst one I've ever done I reckon). All in all it was a pass and I'm stoked.

You've got it, that's the main thing. The test is shit and has nothing to do with your ability to ride or competently handle a bike.
Get out and do a track day at Barbs or collie with Ridedays WA or Trakdayz and you will learn an incredible amount.

For a novice, HART & BART would definitely be the way to go either is as good as the other, the courses I mentioned would be the next level again once you are competent with the basics of riding.
Good safety gear is also a must, was riding with my bro in law a few years ago and he only had a t-shirt and cargo pants on. Got a tank slap at ~140 on Reid highway and went over the bars. Was not pretty.

Well done mate enjoy the riding.
I second the Draggin jeans as I helped out two mates recently after hitting a couple of sheep on Harleys out of Mt Magnet - big slides down bitumen, and gravel edge. Both have Very minimal abrasions.
Neither wore gloves, and both got some nasty gravel rash on them. Find some good gloves and use them!

We'll, this is the post your crotch rocket after all. Finally got around to putting the photobucket app on my phone....
Here it is with 0kms on it as I picked it up from Mack 1 in Midland before I passed my R-E test. Got shadowed home by a mechanic and it sat with 9kms on it for a few weeks. As mentioned earlier, passed my R-E test on Thursday. Had been for a shadowed ride in the morning and by my lonesome in the afternoon, freedom running high!
Went on the 2 Wheels to Wagin ride Saturday to support mens mental health, stayed overnight then early start and back to Perth by 10:30. Now coming up on 800kms and nearly due for her first service. With plenty of stops along the way and back I was able to vary the revs so it wasn't sitting in the same range for too long, hopefully means the rings will be bedded in nicely. Copped a rock but luckily (???) it hit my right forearm and not my nice new bike/radiator. It's amazing how you notice the smallest things when your brain recognises there is no longer a cage around you, saw it coming as soon as it flicked up from a van going the other way. All in all, I'm loving the new way of getting from A to B. Now to clean the bug splatter off my visor lol

I don't think anybody buys a Harley with the intention of going fast, or have any serious thoughts on owning a fast bike...
In the car world it's like choosing between a GTR and an SUV
My uncles and cousins all own Harleys and do a couple of big road trips every year, last time was to Darwin, and i think they do Phillip island too, I certainly wouldn't choose an R1 for those types of trips.

Even still, stick 120hp in a 110ci twin, and they pull hard and get up and boogy to 180k/hr or so before it drops off - not like an 1100 cc Jappa, or Duc, but still impressive enough for the seating position.

Apart from needing a new arse if riding for longer than 20mins because the seat is basically a vinyl covered plank of wood you should be fine. Just keep on top of your maintenance.

10-03-2015, 09:11 AM
Close mate has a WR and ive ridden it heaps. Very heavy for tracks, would not recommend tight "trail" type riding, more open/lancelin type for off road.
On the road they are heaps of fun. top out at about 165 with the standard sprocket and can be hard to keep the front down 2nd-3rd. Set of motard rims/tyres and ya' laughing (road riding with knobley's can become a PITA)
MadDocker
10-03-2015, 09:25 AM
Thanks guys. Work is about 30mins each way so might have to save for new arse also.
I ride a road trail to work most days. The fact I save 15-20 minutes a day being stuck in traffic and $40 a week in fuel overcomes the slightly uncomfortable seat. It only gets a bit annoying after 25-30 mins though. It's not a race bike, nor do i try and ride it like one with the knobble tyres but it's an enjoyable ride. Would definitely recommend!

Any time Arlen Ness or Vance & Hines Short Shots are mentioned is a good thing I reckon. They are cruisers/tourers. Can't lean to exhaust side as much as left side. Many vibrations. Everyone thinks you deal meth to school kids. Wakes neighbours up at all hours. But God damn do they sell that 'Murican freedom look so well.
I quite like the sound and look of HDs, but each to their own. In saying that, I'm currently thinking of test riding a Triumph Daytona 675R against a Ninja 636 for when I step up from the 300. Best mate is trying to talk me into a second hand Dyna Wide Glide that someones already spent money modding so I'll have to take it for a ride just to make sure haha

I borrowed a mates Vrod for a couple days, its a novelty to ride having only ridden supersport and supermotos in the past. And it is a bit of a laugh sitting there at lights going "potato, potato, potato, potato" then brapping away when they change.
BUT.....
140ish it really ran out of puff, the 290 rear tyre and long low chassis made it hook up from the lights quicker than my R1 but meant trying to take a corner at anything over 40kph meant it ran really wide or scraped pipes.
I would maybe own one for the occasional ride up the coast but having a $25k+ bike sitting there with such a limited practical use? no thanks. Least with a supersport you can do the casual cruise or take it for a blast thru the hills.

Awesome little screamers them bikes and great fun, tho 45hp and 19k redline is a bit of a tall tale. Watch for the regulator/rectifier over heating on these most people remove them then glue back on with thermal paste to try dissipate the heat thru the frame a bit.
In good nick will smoke any of the current crop 250 singles and sounds like you're riding a big bike while you do :p

They do take a while to get up to temp its normal. Fun little bike, my first ever crack around the track was on one of those (RR though). Just keep an eye on the temps, I'd say that's just where the gauge sits.
Currently have an FZR250 (Yamaha equivalent) that we lend to people to learn on etc an I still enjoy taking it out for a belt every now and then.
Great first bike.

looking very stock (apart from the pipes)... Diavels respond very well to mods... get a Tuneboy, much better than the Termi ECU tune...
Back in the saddle after a year off riding bikes.
Picked up a 2012 848 evo last night, full termi system, CF huggers and a 1040cc big bore kit, so it makes almost the same hp as my old 1198..
No pics yet but will post some once its had a clean.

^^^ awesome buy for you, but dont quite understand the mentality of the original owner putting a big bore kit in a bike where there is essentially a big bore one off the shelf. Nice way to tear up bulk cash :)
Am toying with an 848 evo corse SE in the Corse colour scheme for the missus.
Thanks Blaise,
I was looking at a corse SE down mandurah way also, but got this one cheaper and with more power/mods..

It's not far off stock, just Termi's, Leavers and mirrors.... no real need for anything else (maybe just the Ohlins rear shock)

I accidently bought this yesterday, the thing is mint it has had $1200 worth of clear plastic put on every single piece of painted surface (not one scratch on it)
Came with full titanium akra system, power comander, rizzoma levers and sato rear sets
Its also the sport model so it has a quick shifter and race abs and race DTC (whatever that is)

ahh this is a 2010 and is the sport version (there were 2 versions then so this is essentially the HP-4 of the day)
No it's either a HP4 or it's not.
It may have had the race mode enabled from the dealership - which is just the ability to turn everything off.
Googling shows mention of a sport around 2011 but it doesn't appear to have any more power or special features....

Googling shows mention of a sport around 2011 but it doesn't appear to have any more power or special features....
Found this, seems that the base model in 2010/11 didn't come with these goodies, but the option pack (what is called the sport) did,
Might be nothing who knows but the previous owner seemed to make a big deal about it being a sport, i really couldn't give a toss as i will not have any special attachment to it...
"The base S1000RR retails in America for $13,800, but the bikes we'd be riding were equipped with BMW's optional electronic rider aids. As with 98% of S1000RR pre-orders, our bikes had the $1,480 traction control and Race ABS option, plus the $450 Gearshift Assistant"

I did a 250km round trip today and didn't feel sore at all! Surprisingly. My Harley I last about a hour and need to park up :/ Definitely can't go wrong with a MT07 or MT09 for a daily.... Just depends on what sound you want ;)

Put almost 100km's on it today riding around now it is finally finished (for now). Needs a service and clutch adjustment, should probably have a pro look at setting carby up better.

Considering that you can pick up a nice 848 for less than $8000, it's a difficult bike to pass up.
I ended up with the Daytona because it rode like a 250 on steroids. It's so light and nimble and has an awesome power band.

Yeah, that was my thoughts, sub 8k, its a lot of bike. I'll have to take out a daytona as well, to see. The Speed is awesome for a hooligan bike, but I miss having a nimble bike.

one thing i recommend for the 848 is a tune; i found the 848 little rough in terms of its power delivery/band, a tune helps make it more useable and smoother on the street. Also remember to check when the belts where last done i can't remember what it is for the 848 but generally its every few years or set amount of km

I had the 848 Corse SE for a year, and the one thing I wish I had time/money to blow on was a tune and a set of termis. The 14T front is a good investment also. I was just never a fan of how much of a pig they were under 60kmh, snappy throttle, would've been good to see how much the tune would've smoothed it out.
After writing off the Pani I'm thinking about going to an 848 SF, throw a quickshifter on it, 14T and the AR shorty exhaust. Should make for fun commutes and weekend hacks.
keen to see these 'nice' 848's UNDER 8k.... maybe 08's with high km's on them if you can bargain a bit.
Belts are every 24k km or 24 months. 14t front sprocket makes a huge improvement to low speed riding etc, and agree a tune cleans it up nicely and makes it heaps smoother.

13-05-2016, 02:42 PM
Yeah, I factored in 1k for a belt change into my considerations on purchase price, and km's.
Actually, the belt change I can do, just not sure if I can be fucked re-shimming if needed.
$750 for an unlock and tune should fix the snappy throttle, although not sure the 848 is as bad as the corse SE.
14T would be a must, and pipes, or at least de-baffle.
Yeah, the one I was looking at was 08, with 27k, so still 9k away from a belt change.
But an MT09 for 7.5k is a lot of fun for the money too. When a bargain turns up.

Remember, if you are teaching someone how to drive (and you are not a licensed driving instructor) you must:
Hold a current and valid driver's licence (for the class of vehicle in which you are teaching someone how to drive) for at least 4 years. In the case of instructing a person to ride a moped, you must have held a current and valid driver's licence for at least 2 years.

Screaming Demon twin exhaust

Feels good to be back on a bike again; even if it is a piece of shit.
Hi, I have a hyosung comet 650, I would like to change the exhaust pipe. Could you tell me how you got the double exit screaming demon? A link ... Thanks!

Excuse rank pic saved from Snapchat, but they pulled the ad before I got a chance to actually save one haha. Looking forward to doing a lap of Aus in the later half of next year.

Any former HD Street Glide owners here? My lap of Aus on the KLR650 ends in November (Darwin to Perth for my next 4 week break from work) and figure I have to own a HD at some stage of my life haha
