One of our run arounds, an 05 suzuki liana has finally shat itself.

engine will rev up fine in neutral (small flat spot ) but as soon as you put load on it and try to drive it just judders and knocks, if you keep the foot in it will give little bursts of rev but struggles to get above 3-4k.

can be driven smoothly if you are very carefull with the accelerator but try and pick up at a decent speed and it just shits itself.

Im gonna go collect the car now as its at the parents house but im thinking fuel pump?

any ideas on the best way to test this?

Fuel pump, coil pack, faulty sensor somewhere... List goes on. Got a multimeter & know how to use it?

Try reset the ecu first by un hooking the -ve battery (Black) hook it back up again after 10 min

if not, it could be
fault leads
coil / distributor.
check your plugs, what colour ar they

Dipped in oil - piston ring has say bye bye
black - is too rich unburnt fuel (bad ignition)
Grey/whitish - good
white - lean

fuel filter cloged
afm / map sensor is dirty.

100% engine damage on GT5.. But seriously it sounds a lot like fuel issue as I had the exact same problem not long ago. Mine was fuel pump.

Yeah my thoughts are definitely with fuel delivery, had the exact same problem on my SD1, turned out to be a blocked filter due to rust in the tank.

gonna start looking for the fuel pump tomorrow, hopefully its not in the tank even though im damn sure it will be. filters will be changed / by passed for testing.

You know doing that way doesnt reset ecu's that were made in say, the last 15 years...?

Nothing to loose other than your radio set up?

got what I assume is the fuel filter out.

has 3 lines going into it

Purge
Tank
and the 3rd has no label.

how do I bypass it?

a bit of dirty black fuel comes out if you blow on it, but is it normal that no fuel what so ever came out when disconnecting it

Doubt that's the fuel filter... Looks more like the charcoal canister (emissions crap)... Follow the fuel lines from the tank... Filter should be a small metal can with one line in, one line out... It's high pressure for efi, so won't be plastic, and will have high pressure capable fittings... May be nipples with hose clamps, or screw on fittings with flare nuts on hard lines.

Look online for a photo of a replacement part to get an idea of what it should look like.

Symptoms do sound like fuel starvation.

I cant find shit under the car, had it high enough off the ground to get under it and there is no visible filter, under the car or in the engine bay. Whats the chances its built into or attatched to the pump in the tank?
