View Full Version : Thoughts? 07 CBR1000RR
So I've caught up with a mate and we got to chinwagging about his bike, and he tells me he hasnt ridden in months (pushing 18 of them)... bike sits in his garage at home...
its an 07 CBR1000RR, only got maybe 9,000ks on it, pretty much stock from what i recall of the conversation. I'm contemplatig offering him a sum to part with it, What should i be offering him for this bike, its unregistered, has been started regularly just not ridden due to work commitments etc.
now obviously i cant ride this thing due to be being on my l's (p's test very soon) so im thinking just freshen it up, and have it for track days once i get at least my p's, coz most probably the only riding ill be doing from then on will be track days...
whats peoples thoughts?

how long have you been riding for?
thou's are not as forgiving as a 600, but both can get you into deep shit very quickly

For learning how to use a bike on a track, buy a 600. OR buy the thou and flog it for profit, and buy a 600. I have had a few thous, one a 05 fireblade, but ive learnt to ride the most on my current 95 zx6r!

how longs a piece of string?
condition of the bike?
anything making it unpassable at pits? fender eliminator? blah blah?
if all's good and all it requires is a oil change, and a clean then i'd say its worth around 10k on the market?
quick sale maybe 8.5k 9k?
havent been riding all that long, 6 months now, only reason why im contemplating it is because he hasnt used it... ill be getting my p's soon so will actually be able to use it on the track from then, but looking at bike sales, theres a big difference in prices of these.... its in pretty good nick except for the fact it hasnt been ridden,, so ill have to giveit a bit of a thorough checkover before giving it a decent stretch... it can be re registered, nothing to stop it from being registered. but for me it wouldnt be used on the street...

Start on a cbr600 or R6 for track days bro! Much easier to get fast on then you can step up and "deal" with the extra grunt of the thousand.
Just my 2c.

if its cheap don't be scared and just buy it.
sure it makes sense to start on something less powerfull, but provided you're not a dumbarse and don't crack it wot while on full lean you'll be fine.
people who learn slowly and gradually will in most cases be fine on a thou as opposed to a 600.
people who will do silly things will hurt themselves regardless of whether they are on a 600 or a thou.

So i'm guessing by p's you mean your R-E?
If its cheap buy it, get a set of ebay fairings and some crash covers incase you put it down at the track.
Might want to find out if the tires are the original ones or just play it safe and replace them if your going to track it

will need tyres, and rego, and a godo genuine service imo....brake fluid etc... from the condition i would pay ~9-10 for it max... idealy 8k would be on the money for a "cheap deal"
i would def sell and buy a 600 in your position... after being able to go from 07 600rr to 07 1000rr back to back (mine vs dads) the 600 is more fun and forgiving... more nimble on street...
good luck

You say you will only use it as a track bike, does that mean full track bike (Slicks, race fairings and trailer)?
If so than provided there is nothing major wrong with it good service and it will be fine. Between 600 and 1ks on the street or a track its all in the wrist, don't be stupid and you won't get in the shit.

If looking for a good bike mechanic to check it out call Kahmal, K-Tech Racing, 0415 746 665. He is a Perth Street Bike sponsor and has a good reputation on PSB too. http://www.k-tec.com.au/
Have used his services numerous times with only good results.

I would say it would be worth around the 9k mark. Post up some more details when you can.
il be seeing him again end of the week, so will find out more info... ive got a good mate who is a bike mechanic who would obviously check it out for me... im based in sydney myself.. but thanks for the heads up Josh!
Riggs, ideally id like to get it to that point... got eastern creek raceway about 15 mins away from home, and id love to be able to take it for a burn there...
i dont plan on registering it but i want to keep it relatively easy to re rego if i decide to sell and prospective buyer wants it for the street...
Kaido, oh if i go down this route, ill be ordering some ebay fairings etc as i know I will be dropping it at some stage!
