We’re currently looking at buying a place on the Ashfield/Bassendean border, on the river side and not far from Ashfield Reserve and Cyril Jackson Campus.

There seems to be quite a bit of suburb experience here (most of it helpful ;))so thought I’d post up a sounding board to see what the area is like. We’ve done a few visits mid week and on the weekend and all seems nice and quiet, almost too quiet and was wondering if it changes after dark. Also to see if there is…. How shall we say it…. much State Housing still around there?
Anyone have any experience living in that area? Ideally we’re looking for quiet with good access to the train line so any input would be appreciated.

got some good advice on here a while ago, if you can see shadecloth from the street & toys/shit on the roof, stay away :)

Have a look at the area West of Old Perth Rd in Bassendean.. Hamilton St in particular has a lot of nice new places.

My olds have 2 houses in there, both getting top rents from decent families who live in them.

If I had to live there, I'd be happy to. Close to the river, close to shops, not far from the city.

Ashfield is a tiny suburb, but good location to the city.

There was heaps of state housing in years gone by, and the filthy pub has been knocked down.
Properties closer to the river ( south side of hardy rd) are the better locations. Stay away from the deli/train stain side.

I still probably wouldn't want to live there right now, but I think it'll go up in value in a few years when some more of the riff raff are moved out.

Maylands just went through its property rise in value...Hashfield will be next in line...in terms of proximity to the city, can't go wrong. Gentrification is slowly sorting out these areas!

I live in Baysie...used to use the Beechbrother shops for groceries...i decided recently to head to Basso shops due to appointment in the area...i won't be going back to Beechbrother! Baso Coles seemed to have citizens with more teeth :P

Shoot me PM with address information when you get to that stage...i might know how to tell you what the state housing situation is in that area ;)

That's the area we'd like to be in ideally. Looked at a couple of older places between there and Point Reserve and love it! Mrs either cycles to work (in Maylands) or cycles to train currently and that's such a beautiful part of the city/river down there.

Currently renting in Maylands and ready to buy, we want to stay in the same region but have been priced out of Maylands (unless we want rubbish) so are looking slightly further afield and a suburb without high rise units.

Will do!

used to live in ashfield, old bloke that was living next door died and family of coons moved in (homeswest)
every weekend there was a domestic with cops attending, them wandering through the front yard etc til i confronted them, got sick and moved elsewhere.
Day before i moved out they threw their matresses onto the front lawn and left lol.

Not a bad area location wise, get as far away from traino's/shops as possible as it attracts the riff-raff.
