You helped me out a couple of times haha :P

Most epic bogged/story i have is going to skeet road at 8am on a monday morning after dropping the missus off at work (200metres from skeet road) and deciding to take my pajero in there for a little fun. 5 minutes later i was bogged upto the chassis in a mud filled rut i could not even open the doors as the mud was stopping that haha. tried everything for hours and hours could not get it out so i walked up to some of the builders who were on haulpacks they just promptly laughed :( i offered a carton he changed his mind and 30 mins later i was out! (About 2pm now) quickly whipped to dan murphys got them a carton and as i was busting down nicholson road BANG my rear wheel fell off (31" mud terrain) bounced through the carpark and hit a tree coming to a stop next to an early model mercedes BAH.

F/Book has taken upon itself to delete all my pics :(

PS tom always gets stuck!

Mate drove down into a small valley type thing once, promptly got stuck at the bottom so I decided to go in after him

managed to get down into there, with no idea how either of us where going to get out, ended up staying the night. in there Next day we started trying to get the cars out, didnt take long before I snapped a rear control arm, with the diff going wherever it wanted the shocks snapped soon after, still in the hole and getting pretty pissed off 48 hours later I managed to make the rear drive shaft fall out. His car is still in there to this day, mine has never driven the same since.

No pics of that one.

on the weekend I managed to to sink boris #2 in the mud pit, was going well till it cross axled

Is that skeet rd?
I have only been towed out once and that was in my old hilux, messin about in a mud pit the engine cut out. After about an hour of fucking around I worked out no fuel flowing guessed fuel
Pump had died. Mate towed me out with his navara and back to my parents place. Once in the drive way I started pulling stuff apart with my dad lookin over my shoulder he says "what's that" pointing to the gas switch solenoid. And asks "is that working?" it was then I checke the switch in the cab while reefing on the wheel in the mud I must of flicked the LPG/off/petrol switch to off shutting down the fuel supply. Flicked switch to petrol pumped accelerator and engine fired up with me feeling very stupid.

in Lancelin Aus day long weekend. this is exciting as it gets for me, second time off road, first time on sand and wasn't going quite fast enough. ( small pics sorry! )

then, not long after this the zook just stopped at the bottom of a dune on a track a decent distance away from the beach/off road area etc. mate in the 80 series in pics above is a mechanic and quickly diagnosed a cactus fuel pump, thing is it was brand new but it wasnt goig anywhere. so, everyone put their heads together ( luckily there was about 10 of us ) and we decided to push the car up the dune ( what a mission and thankfully it was a zook and not a cruiser!! ) to a clearing/flat spot then snatch it the rest of the way up. 3 goes and didnt work, dune too steep so 3 straps linked together, put the 80 on top of the dune and up she went! had to be towed out to the backery to pull it apart. definately fuel pump so rang a few places that'd be open there was like 1 in Ossie Park. it was then decided to do a run to Perth to see if still had the old one in the shed, if not off to Ossie park, luckily i did have the old one. so, back on the road to Lancelin to sawp it over. a few hours later we were on our way home! long long long day!

which didnt go so well

Bout this stage we realized there was no one else around to help so we just stood around and laughed at each other until couple of guys on bikes rocked up who had a cruiser with a winch so they went and got that for us.

Winched the patrol out then that snatched the ute out , was pretty funny afternoon , only casualty was the alt on the 70s and his pride.

Seen a few tourists stuck up at Lano tryin to take 2wd cars along the beach and dunes. Although now the roa to wedge is thru u can drive a 2wd straight onto the beach.
Last time in went some tool in a magna was cruising along infront of me didn't check his mirrors then suddenly does a hand brake turn.

I suggest trying something difficult

I have done plenty of difficult shit most 4wds shy away from, but I'm not gonna go smashing into a 6ft deep mudhole or puddle and get stuck or flooded just so I have a story of getting stuck that's just retarded.
I got the Patrol stopped momentarily up Narrow Neck once but a bit of digging and I was off again.

Also comes down to how u drive, if u feel the car sinking or slipping just going full throttle isn't likely to do much, this is how alot of people get stuck and it amazes me. It clearly isn't getting u free so why keep trying?
Every time I have gone into a hole or mud and I loose momentum an start to sink I get it into reverse quick, or start turning the steering wheel to try clear the tyres.

lol @ loader.

When we were kids, old mans mate driving along the side of the warren river at the mouth, front end disappears into quicksand. Wet sand level with the top of the bonnet. two cars tied together snatched it out, although it came out without front tires. I guess the suction from the sand yanked them off.

what is this Skeet Road y'all talk about? i just googled it and it seems to be a pretty long dirt road from Nicholson in. is it private property? easy, medium, hard tracks? entry seemed just off Nicholson near Piara Drive? another spot to get to it?

i'm only new to 4x4'ing so was looking for some easier tracks to try out, learn and get the confidence up etc

Sorry Damo (nemi) , had to put these up,
He was told not to drive into the water as it will be deep and you'll get stuck, but gave it a go anyway
Sat in there idling for about 2.5 hrs while we went and found someone with a snatch strap in another car.
Water was over the console inside the car. Needless to say every light on the dash came on. Went into limp mode and didnt go over about 40km/h on the way home. Love to see how full the diffs and box were.
Dried everything out over night and he then took it to Lancelin with us all the next day and drove onto the softest part of the beach in Lancelin. Took quite a few 4wd's and some hours to get the car back

yeah you just drive off Ranford rd there into skeet rd, its pretty much just a swamp area where you can drive around but be careful because it is a swamp the water isnt far underneath the ground.. they're developing near the back area so I dont think that area will around much longer.

not worth the time anymore, about 90% of the area has been developed now. Its all private land so will all be developed soon enough. There used to be heaps of MX tracks and some huge pallet jumps but again all gone.
As far as 4wding down there its not really 4wding its just somewhere to go smash through some mud holes and get ur car dirty. but the mud stinks, is like glue and once it dries out it goes rock solid and jams shit up.

Have you ever done the "East of Armadale" track out of this book? Tried to go a few weeks back but couldn't find the Solomon Rock carpark to start the trek... Ended up just heading bush and had a decent time but would like to do the track if I can find the start point. Looked everywhere from 30km - 45km from the Albany Hwy turn-off but couldn't find it.

Dont know how I forgot about this,

couple of years ago me and a mate decided to travel round Aus by car, bought a niva for $200 that didnt even make it from bunbury back to perth due to epic water pump failure. Got that sorted and headed off,

In broome for about 2 days and we parked on one of the beaches and went to drinking with some back packers. came back about 4 hours later to find the tide was actually over the car. only thing sticking out was the jerry cans on the roof. next day with the help of some locals we dug it out and dragged it back up into the car park, 4 hours later the car was running and we managed to drive it to a mechanic in the hopes that maybe it wasnt completely cactus (lol) They just laughed and told us that even though its some how running everything would sieze and lock up very shortly, apparently this happend alot up there due to the king tides etc.

so i took it back to the camp site and began work, drained the oil about 3 times (there was still water in it even then) got a guy to help me disconnect the imobiliser. got a crank handle posted up from perth as all the electrics completey shat themselfs, no starter etc. Drove the car across the gibb river road (about 800ks) and down to kununarra. Sold it to some guy there to use on his farm for $200 and bought another niva for 1k there which got us the rest of the journey.

epic, epic times

if the APP requires agps (which uses cell tower triangulation along with GPS) or uses data connection to download maps (like the maps app on iphone) then as soon as you go out of coverage it will stop working, however if its an app that stores data locally and can use GPS only then it should be fine. I use off maps on ipad and you dont even need a sim card inserted for that to work.

one of my mates were in a hilux and thought it would be a good idea to go through abit of the inlet. the inlet was closed at the time but still had puddles around it that were still pretty deep.

thought i may aswell share my experience. i was working with another guy from work down in dwellingup and he was driving a 4x4 ewp, i followed the gravel track, he went across the field. then this happend:
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/picker1.jpg
it just sank, completely bottomed out:
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/picker2.jpg
went for a walk, about 2 kms and came across a bulldozer parked up with a number on the side, they sent one of the drivers out to help us, this should do it no problems!
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/dozer1.jpg
the driver backed up to straighten the chains as it was pulling on the wheels and about to do some serious damage. then this happend
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/dozer2.jpg
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/dozer4.jpg
so after alot of fucking around the driver called his brother, who happened to be around the corner in a front end loader. when i saw the loader it was alot smaller than the truck, never mind the bulldozer! so he had a go from the front but it wasnt happening, so he went around the back
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/dozer3.jpg
by this time we were all over it and decided to call it a day. rang the boss told him the good news, so he decided the best way was to haul hiis 25tonne excavator down from our yard 120kms away. he dug out all 3 machines and this is what was left
http://i785.photobucket.com/albums/yy139/UK-Rushy/end.jpg
i think it ended up costing around $10000 including paying for the dozer and loader being off site for a day and also transport of his excavator. fun day!

There was alot of water down there today, both of the cars in them pics would of been under water!

Founds a crazy hill climb Pete, off the side of Clarke rd along a fence line. Just a ridonkulous rock climb hill. Was tempted to try but if i got stuck which was highly likly there would be no way to recover without a winch.

Went up off Gorries Rd in Sawyers Valley on Friday night with a few mates (Subaru L Series, Nissan Pathfinder and a new Colorado).

Having a blast and came across a lengthy puddle, mate in the Subaru figured he would give it a crack - got half way and bellied out.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/mistikal1/20120803_233908.jpg

(sank further than that)

Mate in the Pathfinder had been having issues all night with a dodgy AFM, so it would constantly stall and not start unless someone was out of the car and jiggling the plug. Anyhow, Pathfinder was called in to snatch the Subaru out, get everything tied up and Pathfinder stalls, wouldn't start. I had to get out into the muddy bog and slop, stand there and screw around with the AFM, ended up sending the battery flat, so had to jump the Pathfinder with the Colorado, then snatched the Subaru out.

To say the Subi took on water would be an understatement. To add to that, it sucked water through the motor - thankfully only a tiny amount - but this prevented the car from starting and running on all four, ended up towing the Subi back out to GEH (about 20 mins @ 40k's), still wouldn't start, towed it back to Mundairing, got some Aerostart and managed to get it running, flogged the piss out of back home and now it is once again living the dream.

Long story short - if you see a white L Series for sale in the next few weeks, don't buy it.

I got a few in my old Patrol. Wish i never sold this thing....

5" spring lift, 2" body lift, twin locked on 35 baja claws. EFI 4.2 Ti

Telephone lane got me once, diff pumkin sitting on ruts, front dropped down a ledge... then dizzy got shit in it so stalled. Got towed out by a mate in another GQ with lockers and 33s.

He tried to turn around, got stuck in ruts. Had to clean my dizzy up in pitch black, pull him out, then head back out.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/Drownedpatrol.jpg

Few days later, i came up with the excuse i had to go find my front number plate, this time i did the whole track there and back.

2nd time, went out to Powerlines after a few days rain, Some of you may know this hole. Mate said give it a go, i didnt argue.

As soon as both front and back wheels were in, there was no turning back. Hydro-locked motor and end of story.

http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss322/MattsR33/278561_10150393317599778_4263854_o.jpg

A new jeep jacked up on 35s and twin lockers had to winch me out with another car snatched to the back of him...

Some nice bloke in a shorty dragged me through the rest of the track as it wouldnt start, rewarded with jacks.

Organised stock wheels to throw on then onto a car trailer back to Rockingham.

Note: If you have a 4.2 petrol without snorkel, do not fuck with puddles / oceans

Afaik if it's a gazzeted legal road then you are covered ie: accidentally roll over or collide with another vehicle. But I think if you intentionally drive into a big fuck off puddle insurance companies would just laugh at you if you tried to claim.

Got Myself pretty stuck on Aus day weekend.. Was just a case of being abit to comfortable and making a stupid mistake.

Guy in front of me bogged down and I stopped mid dune and got stuck trying to drive out. Reversed and fell off the side of the dune. I should have sat still and just got snatched out. Once I was stuck We should have snatched backwards and destroyed some more duco. Ended up in a 2 hour recovery but we got there.

Next time you get stuck like that, the best way to recover is to take a spare off, stand the tyre up right just in front of your car, run the rope over the spare and start winching. It will pull you up and out, rather than pulling you in to the dune. It's also a lot less stress on the winch.

We did actually think about doing that. I have had to do it before to get out of mud where the front just kept sinking.

We decided based on how I was stuck and how fine the sand was that it wasnt going to work.. Like most things the pictures dont really tell the full story.

Out inspecting fire breaks today, inexperienced offroad driver driving the 3.4 went to do a 3 point turn on a break. Back wheels broke straight through clay surface, being inexperienced he kept the boot in and spun the wheels. Diff was resting on the ground.
Brigade bought Maxxtrax last week for just such an occasion and were keen to try them out, dumped the 3000lt in the tank, dug out the wheels and placed maxxtrax doubled up under the rear wheels and singles on the front wheels. The truck rolled out easy first go!!!
