Cost me $300 for 4x 265/35R18s if that helps, I'm sure cubic weight > actual weight in this case

only looking at 17's so should be smaller than that, and figured cubic weight would be right.
how long to ship?

RELEASE

FedEx $350 with insurance for 4 18" rims.
Tire rack double box the rims too for better protection but also means slightly bigger size

Make sure they ship those wheels to AUS.
The ones I want they won't due to some agreement with manufacturer

Wheels or tyres?
Another place for tyres is demontweeks, I got a set of AD08's from there cheaper than tyrerack and also didn't have to dick around with emails to order

what sort of wheels are you after? there may be elsewhere cheaper that we can help you out

as above, looking at wheels.
Have had a couple of shipping quotes from the UK and significantly more than whats mentioned above from the US (in the region of 400gbp), which kills some options.
Demontweeks is a bit useless as you cant search by car, nor give you any idea on fitment or price.
Looking for a black, multispoke in 17x7.5, 110x5, ~+38 offset, 65.1mm center bore

oz ultraleggera?
Lonewolf

not a fan up the ultraleggeras, and probably a bit exxy.
Will go with a set from tirerack, should sneak under the $1k customs limit too

Keep in mind that the 1k customs limit includes the delivered price at the spot rate (on the day it lands).
If its really close, might be a good idea to split the wheels providing the overall cost is still cheaper with the added delivery.

Cost of rims + cost of freight need to be under $1K.....well at least your declaration needs to be

I've imported stuff before and shipping costs were not included in the value of the goods.
If you tip over the $1k limit then you do get stung on that as well for tax and duty.
In this case should be under $1k inc shipping so shouldnt matter in this case.

and id recommend paying a customs agent to clear the wheels for you - i got fucked around for 1.5 hrs picking mine up

They should have because thats the value of the item but that comes down to the supplier's fault.
Keep in mind for insurance purposes, the cover is only on the stated value.
Yeah if you are well under 1k delivered then no problems.

I was looking at semi slicks on Demon tweeks today, what did it cost to get a set sent out? cause the tyres are cheaper, but their freight can sometimes be huge
edit, just put in basket and went to checkout $280 for 4 x 17" !!!
surely that would have to go up?

Make sure you factor in FOREX rates. Paypal has their own rates, sometimes credit cards are cheaper (that's what I have found).
Also, the correct word is "their" not there.

GST is paid on the Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI).
The VoTI is the sum of:
the Customs value (Cval)
transport and insurance cost (or postage and insurance) (T&I)
any duty payable, plus
WET (if applicable)

Rough value is 15%, but thats not exactly true due to the order in which the customs and gst is applied on the delivered good's value. ^ Indicates GST is applied last.

Value of item + 5% import duty + 10% GST AFAIK
Alt_F4

Currency conversion is also recalculated at time of entering customs (i.e. not based on $AUD value at time of purchase), so if the dollar has swung against you, and you're near the 1K mark you might get stung even if you thought you were all good.

the $1000 limit is the Cval amount, which doesnt include shipping?
As i mentioned, once you breach the $1000 Cval, then you get stung on GST and duty for the whole lot.
And yeah i've been bitten by the exchange rate change a few months back, that sucked hard.
Rudy just came back with $348 for shipping

Actually, you may be spot on there.
As above:
Duty is determined on the Customs value of the goods. The Customs value of the goods is usually the amount you paid for your goods, converted to Australian currency. The exchange rate that is used is the rate applied on the day the goods were posted or exported.
But it does not define what Customs value of goods includes.
However, it is defined elsewhere on the customs website. The definition of "Customs value of the goods" does not include freight and insurance costs from the place of export ie UK to Australia.
http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resources/files/ValueofImportedGoodsApril2011WEB.pdf
This means, if your "Customs value", excluding shipping but including packaging costs, is LESS than A$1,000, you shouldn't be liable for customs and gst charges.
However, interstate delivery costs are included.
Probably need to read the Customs Act for more information.
FFS... it's very simple
Goods under AUD1k = no duty/tax
Goods over AUD1k then duty/tax calculated on value of goods PLUS shipping
shipping does not take into account for the tax IIRC only the goods
shipping does not take into account for the tax IIRC only the goods
You recall wrong
