View Full Version : Got scammed today - White van sales

Evman

Well I feel like a complete fuckin idiot. Got duped by a pair of "delivery men" at Carousel who had extra product from the supplier and were trying to sell it off before they got to the distributor. They had a bunch of audio gear so I stupidly got sucked into it thinking I was getting a great deal. Just trying to raise the awareness, so if you get stopped be sure to do some damage to these guys for me.

SircatmaN

Did they overcharge you or did they not give you anything or what happened? All stolen gear?

dmwill

Saw them at Joondalup Bunnings a few weeks back stopping almost any person wondering though the carpark. A friend had got stopped by them a a day prior at Good Guys up the road.

"Aye Bru, Want a chip home stereoooo?"

Can't believe they're still getting around.

Hahaha sorry to hear man. I got asked by them at a servo once. I just replied "do I look Fucking stupid?" And they drove off.

Evman
16-08-2012, 03:10 PM
As I said in the original post. I was about to park up and they waved me down. They were about to make a delivery but noticed they'd been given too much stock and it wasn't on the list. They wanted to sell the extra kit before they got to the distributor. The more I think about it the more I think well played. They kept up the conversation and shit so even when I did think I should check online the conversation started up so I got distracted. Got some cash for them, got the gear, they left thinking I was a dick, I left thinking I got a good deal. Later I realised that they were right.

At least you got something, I've heard of people opening boxes with bricks in them.

But yeah, pretty old scam......had one about 2 - 3 months ago at Caurosel as well, big maori bloke.
Told em to fuck off, took down their rego and reported them. No idea if anything came of it, never heard back from the cops?

EVLO
16-08-2012, 03:30 PM
im confused. Is it legit gear, and you just paid waay more than shops sell them for? Or is it dodgy gear?

Evman
16-08-2012, 03:32 PM
Google says that the amp has been responsible for fires, so that's a bin job. Yet to hear back about the projector. It'll probably blow up. Overall I just paid too much for the shit

I know some one in the office that got done really good for this.
He came in to the office from the car park and said "GUESS what i just bought for a good price!"
i just listen and didnt want to pop his bubbles.. lol!

he bought...
3D projectors with 3D glasses with unbelievable quantity of the lumens
Full stereo System
Gold RCA and HDMI connections

Spend about $2000 dollar on the spot.

And never spoke about it the day after.. i guess he know that he got done real bad ... LOL!

See, if I got offered the stereo gear, I'd offer them very little for it.. like $100 or something. If I got all that for $100, that would be a good deal, even if it wasn't that good quality.

shifted
16-08-2012, 03:39 PM
LOOOL that's gold!

Guy at uni came in as well saying he just got a "great deal" with a smile a couple months back... sound system and all for $1k (apparently bargained down) - wasn't too happy when I told him it was a scam.

Another guy at uni paid $600 for his sound system a couple years back and reckons it's going strong still, same with one of his friends.

maybe it'll be good for outside instead of binning it?

THink it this way, rather than make it as a waste.. just use it for the sake that you pay way over the price should be.

I got offered a projector that was supposed to be excess stock that they needed to offload cheap from some guys in the Carousel carpark. I said no worries take out your wallet and show me your licence and i'll buy it. He wanted to know why and i said so i know who's house to burn down if i get ripped. Told me to get fucked and walked off. If there not willing to give you there details it a good chance its a scam.

Fark Ev sorry to hear about that. I hope you didn't loose to much on it man. On the bright side when you setup your shed / garage you will have a projector and surround sound ready to go.

I need a good fake CC, might sign up.

Bonuses may be paid in cash, checks, fake credit cards or, with some irony, speakers.

In Australia the same tactic is used. Receipts are issued, but the contact details are usually fake so that the goods cannot be returned. As an added measure, vehicles are leased so that they can not be traced to either the distributor or 'sales person' driving.

I shit you not, my brother who is 40 this year, called me up to talk about an email he recieved last week. He was dead serious about looking into buying a new house/porsche all kinds of shit. He honestly believed he had won some sweepstakes from the bank of Canada for 900k.

He only bought a laptop last year, i think he has used it twice. never had a computer before then, has an iphone but doesnt even know how to surf the web.

He was pretty angry at me, even when i took the time to slowly and politely tell him its a scam, he starts yelling down the phone 'dont fukin talk to me like i am stupid!'.....

"Hey bro you want a cheap home stereo? We accidently recieved double shipment and we wanna offload em cheap for cash so the boss don't know"

Me: "How cheap?"

"Way cheaper than what they're worth bro!!"

I look through the back window of their Hiace and see the gear, can easily tell it's ripoff junk..

"Looks like cheap shit to me mate, fark off"

And they drive off quick smart

The funniest bit was hearing a bloke rattle on about his fuli sic stereo he got for cheap 'off the back of a van' a few weeks later. How are people so gullible?

I don't see the big deal, they offered you wares which are clearly dodgy... Normally they infer that it's basically stolen/back of the truck.

You buy because you didn't do your research and you essentially just over pay for something. To me they are just good salesmen. No different to Harvey Norman charging you 5k for a 1k China couch!

Don't know where to post this up but since we're on the topic of scammers, here's one.

My friend messaged this guy for details about this car, asking if it has been in any accidents or damaged, the owner saying "No accidents nor been damaged", my mate showed me the car, turns out this car was down the road from my workshop couple months back with every panel damaged due to a crash (I'm surprised it was not written off in the state it was in), it has been fixed yet the owner (Daniel) took corners with some of the parts he fixed it with. Just a heads up for anyone because I have been in the situation of buying a car and thinking it's all smooth sailing, so if you know anyone thinking or is planning on looking at it. here you go.

report it to the cops all u want, they arent actually doing anything wrong apart from preying on peoples own stupidity.

The goods arent branded as something else and they're not stolen.

“These are offences under the Australian Consumer Law and Consumer Protection is keen to get enough evidence to bring these matters before the Courts.

“The ‘back of a van salespeople’ are also breaking door to door or unsolicited trading laws which allow consumers a cooling off period of ten working days for any unsolicited sales over the value of $100.

Always a couple of sets on Gumtree that people are trying to on sell after realising they have been done. One guy recently was saying he paid $4,500 for the full setup! Ouch!

Cops wouldn't want to know about it, but consumer affairs will be happy with any information you can give them.

They're essentially counterfeit goods and will also more than likely not have CE approval/standards.

They stopped me as I was driving into innaloo car park no more than half an hour ago. They were driving out so i thought they were after directions but as soon as my window came down I heard them ask if I wanted a home theatre. Simply laugh and drive off

They offered one to me for $500. You could probably get a half decent Sony or Yamaha system for that much

Wog boy's brother asked me if I wanted a home theatre as I got out of my car at Kingsway shops. I started laughing sarcastically and he immediately drove off

The only person I know who's been fooled by these muppets is BLAAA.

And that still makes me happy to this day.

I was approched by these guys back in January. These Hiaces all look identical. Tinted out windows, reverse mirror, that rear bull bar looking thing.

I was at the traffic lights in Canning Vale. This Hiace pulls up with a Caucasian driver and Asian passenger.

The passenger asks me "你聽得懂中文嗎? " (Do you understand Chinese). I decide to say no. Moments later "Oh okay do you want a 3D home cinema?", I quickly burst out in laughter and said "*HAHAHA* FK dude NO!". He pouted his lips then closed the window.
