whilst they were travelling slow, which assumably was within their limits (points awarded there) they did keep the the left and didn't argue when being overtaken. It was frustrating but they did actually do the right thing and drove within their limits and yield when necessary, can't really ask for much more than that? There wasn't much room to physically pull over and that may have caused some drama in itself.

If they know they are slower than the rest of the pack then why drive at the front and hold everyone up? Yielding when necessary? when? If that was the case they would have pulled over or got out of the way when they could (yeilding), There was none of that from the white 34 which is the car I am referring to. However as stated I did see Shaneo pull over (yeild) where he could and i gave him a thumbs up. Good work Shaneo and appreciate you letting guys through!

The White 34 with TAS plates did allow me to overtake, even indicated to let me know nothing was coming. Overtaking on twisty roads is a bit difficult.
Give the guy a break, he's fresh from the east, although anyone from outside of WA is a superior driver.
Yakky Bear
26-08-2012, 04:51 PM
Not once did I ever see him even make any sort of effort to let anyone through.
FYI Shaneo pulled over on a narrow part, same as any other part of that road and everyone got the idea he was letting people past, its not hard.
I understand it's hard to overtake on twisty roads thus why if people "yeilded" to let the big line of cars they are holding up there wouldn't have been an issue.
My point is if you're not as confident as most other guys then stick to the back.
Two words... "common sense"

If they know they are slower than the rest of the pack then why drive at the front and hold everyone up?
maybe because they didnt realise that they were being what we would call slow?
Yielding when necessary? when?
when they didn't interfere or obstruct at any time, for the opportunity to overtake. I sat behind the pack because I was driving within my known limits, behind those 3 in front of me because I have never driven that road in "reverse" and I am an obtusely cautious overtaker. I was waiting for a SAFE opportunity to get past them. That is a persistently difficult bit of road to overtake on, given all of the corners are blind, there are NO street lights, and some people haven't learned that nobody cares if you sit with your high beams on the whole way. You are better to be cautious than dead, or responsible for such to happen to others.
If that was the case they would have pulled over or got out of the way when they could (yeilding), There was none of that from the white 34 which is the car I am referring to.
how much drama do you think it would cause if they were to pull over and stop at any point in that road, where there is no run off and again all of the corners are blind and they are the lead car? There seemed like enough room to overtake all the time, as they held to the left the entire time. I didn't overtake because I found it dangerous to do so. Once somebody else was to lead the way it because more of a predictable situation for me.
However as stated I did see Shaneo pull over (yeild) where he could and i gave him a thumbs up. Good work Shaneo and appreciate you letting guys through!
He pulled over at the very beginning, where the road is very wide and everyone was only already doing 20-30kmh, before any momentum had been built up and the situation wasn't dangerous at all. Overtaking on blind dark unlit corners at speed is a lot more dangerous. I'm not sure how to compare the two situations honestly. I do also believe that he pulled over to get behind me to prove me wrong in a previous conversation where I told him that I thought his car didn't have any top end, a judgement that I made after having driven the car on several occasions previously. I deduced this from him querying this very point at the next stop, after he figured that I was actually at more than 60% throttle the whole time down that stretch.
calm down, I'm just saying you don't need to be calling the guys muppets. They were actually doing the right and responsible thing in my eyes.

It's no wider where he stopped. There was two separate places to stop and for them to safely pull over and let people through (driveways one into a park and another into a dam entrance Google map it)!
You seem to be putting a huge effort into calling me out when I am telling it like it is.
Like I said... Common sense. He could have easily pulled into the driveway where the park is halfway through and "safely" let people pass. The entrance is also easily visible I might add.

Another thing to note, if he pulled over, what is the chance of everyone doing the same? Case and point, Matt's Volvo on Albany Hwy.

I'm not putting a huge effort into anything, I type expanded explanations with detailed examples as part of what I do for a living, and i know how to use forum tags so whoopdee.
Anyone could have easily done anything, but they didn't. I honestly do not believe that they acted in the wrong in any way, they were doing the speed limit on a road they obviously either were not familiar with or not comfortable with.
I've driven that road MANY times and sometimes it honestly scares me a bit, especially with the speeds that cars which have developed suspension and power outputs can do it in now. It sounds like you are trying to insitgate a cock fight, because the car you were in (not even driving) is able to go faster than others because of it's mechanical and operator abilities. SO WHAT they were going slow, SO WHAT they held everybody up, SO WHAT if it took a while to get past them, at least everybody got home, no cars were damaged and people actually drove within their limits, shouldn't that be applauded instead of contested? I would much rather drive home with all my limbs at the end of the night, instead of trying to pick up pieces of somebody who pushed past their limits trying to either be a hero or try not to hold some others up.

Thanks to organisers first. I'm usually in the shit at cruises for fucking up so pulled over to let others through. After catching up to yo'll i found myself behind the red corolla from hell. Said driver of which gave me a verbal clip over the ear for a silly double line overtake i did on a civilian vehicle, earlier in the cruise. Which i acknowledged.
I wish my cro magnum man computer skills would allow me to post up a clip of Fozzy Bear saying "I bought the paper towels!"....Have a good week all!

I completely understand where Adsport is coming from, pretty much the reason i tend not to do hills runs anymore.
Drive within your limits / cars limits, and if you happen to hold anyone up for any sort of reason and people get shitty.
Another thing to note, if he pulled over, what is the chance of everyone doing the same? Case and point, Matt's Volvo on Albany Hwy.
Stopped for a piss and got a crowd.

Seems that every cruise thread that goes through the hills has something about the slow drivers holding everyone up, yet their is such a huge emphasis on driving within your limits. Why is it on the slower drivers to make sure they are at the back, when the self proclaimed 'Colin McRae' racecar pilots also have the same copy of the map & can head off 30secs earlier to ensure they are at the front of the pack? I'm all for going fast wherever possible & keeping it as safe as possible, but these bitch sessions are getting fucking old.
Go run Targa West next year if it's that important to drive at warp speed through the hills Jase. I'm sure you held up more than a few people when driving your Aristo cruise ship through the hills with a big converter & sloppy suspension, get off the high horse champ :D

Hey All,
Firstly id like to thank the organiser of the cruise. I had a really awesome night. Were some really sweet rides there too.
I am the owner/driver of the white 34 that seems to have caused a bit of grief...
There isn't really much I have to say other than sorry to yak cause I think the other lads have covered it. Cheers for that.
I'm new to WA (hence tas plates) and the car is pretty stock including suspension and brakes, the bulbs are shit, and I didn't know the road at all. Made travelling those hills difficult. Plus where I'm from wombats and roos arent much fun at a buck twenty.
Anyway my bad if I offended anyone and I'll try not to hold you quicker lads up again.
Cheers
