I'm chasing some advice/expertise on tyre performance.
I have always been told that to get the best from a tyre (street tyre) that you should let it heat cycle before beating up on it.. Is this true or abit of an old wives tale? And if its true how do people 'run in' their tyres?
Is the same true for slicks and race rubber?
Ive just purchased some new dot radial drag slicks and I'm stocking up on rubber for power cruise and would like to get the best from what ever I buy.
Any info/experiance would be appriciated.

i like to run in my tyres by swinging to limiter and then dropping clutch....
I've never heard of that before for your run of the mill street tyres, however for racing slicks etc I've heard what your stating.
To get the most out of street tyres things i always check are tyre pressures and alignment.

street tyres come with slippery stuff on them to get them out of the moulds, but a short drive gets that off...
slicks/track tyres can perform better after a heat cycle (and drop off performance after too many)

Drag slicks and radials need a good "heating up" before you use them for the first time. After that nice short and sharp skids will get them back to operating temp

Tones are you talking a good hazing (till thick smoke) or just driving on them till they warm up then letting them cool?

Bit of smoke for the first one, like a 10 second burnout.
Then for subsequent runs just spin them for a couple of seconds.
No need to be like WAW heros who sit brake for 30 seconds or more.
No burnouts are allowed for offstreet drags so I think using drag radials would be pointless. Aren't they only effective once they have warmed up? A good set of street tyres like Federal 595EVO's or alike would be better, no?

interesting point... however provided the track is warm, if you've been driving on them doing laps just before they should get warm.
do you get any practice or warmup runs? because one run would get them warm anyway. but lining up again would fuck them up once more. What's everyone else doing for PC offstreet?

R1R street tyres won the offstreet racing last year.
AWD probably helped too :p Didn't help with driving skil when attempting heli's afterward though...

After trying a Powerskid today on the second run with street tyres at 42psi and completely failing because the track temp was high and tyres were too sticky, i'd say you have a fair chance of running drag radials.

Will be running drag radials tomorrow. Haven't had a chance to put a heat cycle through them yet but have been performing extremely well so far.
