Hey guys,

fitted a billet aluminium steering rack bush yesterday, took it for a test drive and everything seemed sweet, but I didn't do any highway speeds.
Took the car to Westy this morning to get some Feds put on, again on the way there, because of traffic, didn't get up to full speed.
On the way back, noticed I had a pretty harsh wobble starting at 90kmp/h. It seemed more apparent on older bitumen, it shakes, but the tighter you hold the wheel, the less it will shake and you can't really feel it. On newer bitumen it's fine, no shuddering at all.
Had a wheel alignment done this arvo without mentioning the problem, it got slightly better but not by much. Same deal, intermittent wobbles at about 90+

What do you think the problem here is?
Steering rack bush?
Tyres imporperly balanced?
Bad castor rods? (it's had the bushes up front replaced with Nolothane at some point, and car has always had a tendancy to pull to the left, and develop abnormal camber wear on the left side)

I've sent Aaron a message but still waiting for a reply.

slighty buckled rims? Regardless if Mr Westy fitted them he will tell ya if they are buckled. can you put the "stock" bush back and go for a test run?

Well Westy had a look this morning, one wheel was out but not my much, I think he said 15/20 grams.
The drive home was a bit better. Both hands off the wheel it still jiggles (but stays driving relatively straight, it does pull left or right but I guess that's the road?), at least now with one or two hands on the wheel you can't even feel it.

I can put the stock rubber bush back on, but need to take the dash out, and it's a bitch of a task to do by myself.

Anyone had this problem after putting a solid bush on ?

cool. does the rim fit snugly around the hub? or require hubrings? Mine has an issue like yours since yesterday arvo after a failing to get collies to lower the car forgot one of the hub rings and now she wobbles if you let go of the steering wheel 2 hands and its fine WTF

Neg, do you mean spacers?

wheel goes straight on no dramas, always has.

Put a known good set of wheels on i.e. stockers, and see if it still does it and go from there.

Play in the steering rack or rack ends?

Rack is all rock solid.
Noticed it doesn't wobble when turning at speed (ie, going from Kwinana Fwy Northbound onto Roe Highway, fine on the off ramp, gets the shakes again as she straightens up)

Give it to Wilko's tomorrow morning, see what they come up with....

^^ Haven't had time to scratch my ass.
Wilko's couldn't have a look this morning, air compressor not working or something. Said to come back tomorrow.
Switched the fronts and rears around this arvo, took it for a spin, felt a small vibration but it went away straight away, cruised around for about 10-15 minutes of various back roads and Roe Highway around the roadworks, had no drama's at all.
It does pull to the left a bit more now.

What do we reckon .. .?
