I was on low boost and broken leg so i couldnt even put foot all the way down :P dont worry other wrx i dont think it was done up much, so im not ditching your cars. Just good when someone with a kid bov and a bit of boost and exhaust with body kit and art work all down the car comes up to me thinking i was going to be a easy beat.lol FAT CHANCE

i saw a really sexy my01 wrx yesterday, it was grey and was debadged, didnt have a front scoop or rear wing but it had really fat dark grey wheels with bright red 4 pist calipers just screeming out of this car. It was really fat! PH phat, it had PFFT on the numberplate and had the beautiful sound of that horney EJ. **** i just shot! dam i wish i had a camera :(

That was with my old Link ECU, and VF22 turbo. Car now has Motec, TD06, headers, injectors, fuel pump and pod filter, but its running less boost because the injectors arent quite big enough :(

Only a few mods so far:

Colour coded sideskirts
Foglight covers
3 inch turbo back stainless steel exhaust
turbo timer
super low springs

Had the gearbox rebuilt, clutch replaced, flywheel remachined, pressure plate replaced, pressure pads replaced and a new headlight done about 1-2 weeks ago all under warrenty. :D Thus the reason no real mods have been done so far.

If you want to go really fast - the gtr.
If you want a car thats newer, handles better, has a heap of midrange - then go the sti..... did I mention newer?

The STi is a great car... DCCD, R comps (close to)...goes great!

Jazza, ive raced ppl with power on the road, ie your idol dave, and funnily enough, they have trouble hooking up and they dont pass me till 160-170, guess what, quarter mile is OVER. Big hp in a rwd car on the street is worthless unless u wanna do good burnouts or roll ons, or your an exceptional driver.

Totally agree with WRCjosh!

My exhaust is a bolt on one.. x-force brand and 3 inch all the way through. It's meant to be one of the more louder exhausts out there (not the loudest) giving about 105db supposedly. The exhaust was such a good mod to do though, the car has freed up so much and the turbo really feels like it can run freely now.

I'd race anyone off the lights... might need a second rebuild of my gearbox though :lol:

Yup its stainless, quite a big notice is power increase, over fuels now however and 'crackles' everytime I shift down a gear. Gives the typical wrx note... can be the worst thing ever if your driving with a migrane.. otherwise I love it.

WRX's have grumpy stock ecu's that don't like mods. Typically an aftermarket ecu should be the first thing you do, if not the first then somewhere near one of the first.. you won't get the most out of any mods with the ecu being tuned.

I disagree big hp in a rwd is useless it just needs to b set up correctly with a good driver! Obviously awd is going to be much easier and I do love the traction you get with WRXs, Joe's car amazed me in the wet... incredible

My car is very much the same....I've had a few runs with some big hp cars....one of which was a 180sx with 350rwhp. I would put money on it beating that ****ter 180 with veilside gayness.

Anyway, with 350rwhp in his 180, he doesnt catch me until top end of 4th.... which in a 6spd Im guessing is around 140-150?

As Josh said....on the street its pretty much game over by that point.

I'd like to see Joe run him from a standing start hehe. Choppy chop chopperoo. I'd like to see his 180 do a ****en 1.7 60 footer!

Hey dude im pretty sure that the S15s are faster than the wrx's stock! THE S15's do high 13's stock and wrx's do low 14's im pretty sure!

no. the My01 plus ecus are a bit smarter than theyre worth. when u add an exhaust, it recognises this, and adds fuel to compensate richening out the mixture. yes, go to a motec and u will be set.

bakks - i reckon ur car woulda been slower than a stock 01 looking at the flames and guessing ur fuel mixtures :)

Motec, Autronics, Link, Unichip, Utec, Microtech, so on will help :D

With the old model they respond to mods without ECU. A mates 00 with same mods used to walk over mine. I suspect if we both had aftermarket ECU's the gap would be a lot closer.

S15 with exhaust will out do a WRX with exhaust, but standard the WRX should be able to go the 1/4 mile quicker of both are stock, unless its a Jap spec S15 (187kw high 13 1/4 compaired to Aus spec 147kw mid 14 1/4) S15s get more out of an exhaust not just becoz of rwd but also Aus specs are heavily downtuned by boost and exhaust restrictions, so get rid of them and they get back up to Jap spec levels :)

So with the earlier models is it ok to do minor mods such as exhaust,intake, fmic and boost and still get ok results with stock ECU ? i know if you want best results out of your mods you need to change ya ECU but for the earlier models would it be ok?

Oh and to answer your question, of course its ok to run exhaust mods etc on a GC8 without an ecu. HOWEVER, after turbo, its probably best to use an ecu to get maximum benefits. And really no need to go motec ;) Autronic or even link / unichip can be fine. Remember its all in the tuner!

MMS exhaust's are just that. An exhaust from MMS (a Subaru / Rally type workshop). Joe, does the same guy do exhausts for both RMS & MMS?

Lots of different opinions but on an average WRX most 3" turbo back's will give very similiar benefits. Differing opinions on the dump pipe design but the majority of people couldnt tell the difference.

Alot of WRX's now run antilag (u need a decent ECU to do this), so no point wasting $$ on a "high flow" cat when it will kill the cat pretty quickly..

Race Torque (the other out of the "big 3" Subaru shops), makes their own exhausts.

Full xforce turbo back stainless steel system is a tiny bit more than 800 bucks.. more like $1500 - $1900.

Yup its loud, get lotsa looks at the typical boxer rumble but it never does my head in, only time where I really regretted it was when I had a migrane whilst driving. The db rating is about 105db so its 15db over the limit, haven't been given a second look by cops so far since im not a stupid driver.

There is a silencer that comes with the exhaust should you need it a bit quieter.

Incase you don't get it still... go to www.police.wa.gov.au and contact them asking if they read antilags website and also if they know that some of the cars on the forums are running illegal mods that can give serious fines. Then proceed to give a list of numberplates for the 'fulli sick' rides that you love due to popping flames.

However with the nature of antilag, it WILL kill the insides of a cat convertor pretty quickly ;) Probably do a far better job than bashing it out... From what i can remember Joe did a awesome write up on the principals of Antilag. Maybe he can post it up here?

Also you cant just run around with antilag on all day. Puts heaps of stresses on the car. Well you can but turbos et al are pricey ;)

Find an Autronic for around $1500 and get a decent tuner to work his (or perhaps her.. Gotta be a female tuner somewhere surely :P) magic and presto. Nothing wrong with a Link, but IMHO autronic ****s all over it!

Low powered cars are the way to go when its your first car. Chances are that you will either fark up a parking attempt, rear end someone, cut someone off and plough into them or simply take out a power pole. It's much better and MUCH safer if you are in a low powered car when you make these mistakes.

Don't say you won't make the mistakes, everyone does it when they are learning, and some people still do it after they have experiance of driving.

My first car was a Series 2 RX7 with a mildly ported 13B....not overpowered by any stretch of the imagination, and no LSD or locked diff so I couldnt kill myself in the rain, but it was still fairly pokey and I made a point of taking it to the drags to see how fast it was rather than doing it on the street on my P plates...ran a 14.9 ;)

My next car was my WRX...this was when I was 19.

At this point, I was well and truly off my P plates, had driven many high powered cars up until that point, and I'd never had an accident or even a speeding fine.

I found myself more than responsible enough to own this car, and to this date I still have the majority of my license points, have never lost my license, or had an accident (knock on wood)

The point is, get a lower powered car for your first car, because you dont know how good a driver you'll be until you actually get your license. No use buying an expensive car, then smashing it heaps of times and dooming yourself to expensive insurance for the rest of your life.

My rex was my 2nd car (at 20) and first manual. Had lost a few points over the years before hand but was sitting on 10. 3 weeks of ownership went by and it was great :D

During the next 4 days i lost 11 POINTS in 3 fines. Should have really ended up in court and faced a license loss of 2 years. Esp for the 3rd fine ;) STUPID, STUPID speeds ;)

Who cares what "brockas" got. I can show you 3 or 4 ppl who have 05 STi's as first cars. They ARENT u, so why care ;)

I actually think differently and really hope u DO get a rex as first car. Will teach you more about safe driving / handling / car control etc than driving a bunky around for 6mnths. You ****up in a excel, cant get into, too much trouble. Opposite in a WRX.

People push the limits in slower cars and you can get away with it often enough. Hence you push it more and more. Sure, you will want to use the power more, but things happen quicker with more power, so you soon learn that if you be a dickhead, it WILL come back and bite you on the arse. Provided u learn from experiences, no dramas in owning any car ;)

Joey89 - There is so much more to life than just cars dude. Seriously...go see the world, get pissed, take drugs, get arrested and have random sex with as many girls as you can.

If you don't you'll get to 21/22 and need to get a job and house etc and you'll regret not doing all that crazy stuff. I have my car because i can't do all that mental stuff anymore because i have to hold down a job and support a home etc...my car is my escape from that.

stay away from drugs (cept maybe weed, but that **** can make u a dopy **** later down the track ;)). Sure pills et al, gives u a wikid feeling, BUT in the end is it all worth it...

Drink lots though (which perhaps can be just as bad..) Ok everything in moderation :P

Use condoms as well. Sure it doesnt feel as good but you wont have any car if you have to pay child support for the next 18 years.

Like i said...there is more to life and you have to be careful not to get caught up in the moment and hitting 25 and saying to yourself "christ i missed out on my best years because i was too busy ****ing around with cars" that would suck.

Just Remeber That You can Crash a rex easily just cos its four wheel drive doesnt mean you cant lose control and when you do lose control it will be at a much fast speed cos the four wheel drives limits are at higher speeds :)

to the younger guys, u'll find most people that have performance cars have driven a bunky or a low powered car around for a while, my first car for quite some time was an AE82 Twinky, great car to learn to drive in and couldnt really get into too much trouble (unless ya got the a$$ out a bit to far in the wet handbrake spec, bloody FWD :lol: ) so i say get something low powered, learn the basics of driving for a couple of years before moving onto something more powerful.
for some reason every 16-17 year old says that they will drive sensibly when they get a performance car for a first car, even the dead one's and the one's that have killed other people and written their cars off have said that, and until you have more experience on the road and have a cawk load of near misses u wont understand that your not indestructible :)

i second that, harder to get sideways than rearwheeldrive but once its outthere push too hard and u aint gettin it back into a straightline without hittin sumthin or lots of somethings
