A new update has been released for Gran Turismo 5.
The main contents of the update are as follows:

- The [Tyre/Fuel Depletion] settings under [Event Settings] of the Open Lobby can now be set in four levels; "None", "Normal", "Fast", and "Very Fast".

- The 3D display view has been improved.

- The tyre depletion rate has been now balanced as it varied too greatly in certain circumstances depending on the vehicle.

- The Drift Trials scoring method has been changed to prevent cheating.

- The maximum RPM of the Honda weider HSV-010 (SUPER GT) '11 has been changed to 10300rpm. The engine sound has also been improved.


[Correction of Known Issues]
- Fixed an issue where opponent cars were hitting the pit entrance wall when pitting in at the Twin Ring Motegi Road Course East.
- Fixed an issue where fuel was not being consumed when entering an endurance race with a Prius, or when [Tyre/Fuel Depletion] was enabled in the Open Lobby. Affected cars: Toyota Prius G '02, Toyota Prius G '09, Toyota Prius G Touring Selection '03, Toyota Prius Touring Car.
- Fixed an issue where the online control characteristics differed from the offline characteristics.


[To Check Your Current Version]
To check the version of your software, press the "Manual" button at the bottom of the main menu screen. The version number will be located on the upper left of the index page in this manual.

If the number starts with "Ver. 2.09", you are playing the latest version of the game.

If not, please press the PS button and quit the game. The game will be updated automatically when you restart it with your PS3™ system connected to the internet.

EDIT for AKF6: yes, no mods permitted. You can paint your car and it's rims, but nothing else.

The regulations are actually set so that if you do change the car characteristics but still keep the same Performance Points, you will still be excluded from entering the race – as in the game won't let you go out on the track.

The exceptions are the settings for ABS, level of Traction Control and a couple of other things like turning on and off the driving line.

Just buy a new car from the showroom. PP limit is the default PP level of a brand new car.
Change paint and wheels if you like, but that's it.

The PP handicaps during the evening are achieved by de-tuning the engine in the settings menu. I'll be announcing the PP levels before each driver before each race. The PP levels are also published on the mgr.net.au/gt5 website before each race.

Online physics now the same as offline. Cars are MUCH easier to drive. (Nowhere near as twitchy as before).

I suspect the racing is going to be significantly closer this series because of it.

Agree Stratos is fun to drive once you get the hang of it (ie, only braking in a straight line, keep a little throttle on around corners) and it sounds great for a GT5 car but might be a bit too difficult for non-wheel people

Some notes for next week:
- DMZ setup is MANDATORY! It was the first week for a few newcomers so we'll cut some slack. But next week, no DMZ setup? No join.
- Brockas is banned until he makes at least an attempt to connect his PS3 via ethernet cable.
- I'll be winding the PP handicap points up for next week. The leaders are still a bit too quick.

I'll try to get some video up later on.

There's a bunch of cars I'd love to use as the one-make vehicle, but many of them are 'standard' models. These are only available sporadically in the used car dealership so not everybody has access to them. That's why the one-make racing will stay limited to cars in the new car dealerships.

The only reason I can think that you're running deeper into corners – even when you brake at the same point as everyone else – is either because you've turned the ABS setting to 0 or you are turning the wheel when braking (even a slight amount will add meters to your braking zone).
The ABS default position is 1 (out of 10) and I'm yet to see anyone ANYWHERE on worldwide leaderboards etc ever have it off (0). With ABS off the cars are undrivable under brakes due to a lack of feel through the brake pedal; you end up locking up almost everywhere.

Hopefully the handful of new people stay with us as it's always good to have some fresh people: racing with the same dodgy pingpingpingpings for 18 months is bull.

You seemed to have a reasonable run on the night. I noticed you in the top five on several occasions.

As Alex said the car doesn't like turning much with 100% braking force. You need to get the bulk of braking done in a straight line but you can also trail brake into the corner by rolling off the stop pedal as you turn in. If you check the telemetry in the video below the initial brake force is quite firm but I gradually ease off as I turn in.

Yeah the default rubber on the 86 seems to grippy for the PP level. Even the higher PP Ford Focus from last round ran comfort soft tyres. I'll probably review the default tyres in the future and perhaps set the limit to comfort soft for those cars in the low 400pp bracket.

I had a shocker in the one-make, but somehow managed to take out the shuffle. Was pretty pleased with my efforts at leguna- went from dead last (after getting punted into the sandpit at the first corner :mad: ) to finish in second.

Just a suggestion- maybe we need penalties on when we Hav a group that large. I kept getting punted off the track by ppl using my car as a brake when they come in way too fast for a corner. grrr

Get punted off by someone and you're likely to get a shortcut penalty or something just a ridiculous.

Coulda been sciflyer's lag. If so I was completely wrong to pretty much seek revenge on every other car from then on... Ludebob and I were having a pretty aggressive match going on, in the end I was just punching him into the wall.

The 1st race was great, clean racing... Every race after that, the mid pack was just nasty :P

Yeah you could see them taking me out in the white car as well, which I was pretty emo about because I knew I was quick on that track.
Throughout the night I'd get swamped at the start and end up mid pack and find it freaking hard to pass anyone! Everyone is so freaking quick these days!

At least it was not me punting someone due to total game incompetence.

I practiced once for last week and then could not get in the room until the last one make race, where i may have or may not have caused an incident on the first corner :o. Although this week I tried to be more courteous on the shuffle races when it was reverse grid and I am up front, I tried to brake early so i did not hit shit and cause more accidents.

I have just done a practice race on each circuit for this week but may not be home from work in time for the one make series.

Must admit though I am still learning the game let alone the tracks etc.

I can recommend – to anyone – jumping on at some point during the week before the Thursday race just to get your eye in, if you don't already.

All it takes is just a few laps on each of the circuits we will be using that round and your knowledge of the car's characteristics and the (all important) braking points will help you quite a bit in the race.
And... it's fun!

RE:drafting - i got totally owned at Daytona by going out first to qual, started pretty much at the back as a result. Noob error.
BUT.... given that we typically have faster, more open tracks first and tighter, harder to pass tracks later i dont think its a bad idea to mix up the grid, otherwise even with big PP handicaps by the 3rd or 4th race the fast guys can still dominate because its so hard to pass on tracks like London and Madrid

Don't worry I saved it you pingpingpingping! You almost put me in the pits but I managed to pull back only to have no grip and go off the other side and be passed... FML! haha

Franz seemed to be ok in a straight line but whenever he was turning he was jumping around like a crackhead on a pogo, made it almost impossible to drive behind because there was smoke everywhere and couldn't even see the corners :(

If you're referring to the Madrid crash I never blamed Phil for anything. I was too busy tucked up underneath Stu's wing trying to get a good tow to overcome my PP handicap, missed the braking point and understeered into the wall. Completely my fault.

Download speed seems to vary quite a lot with the PS3 speed test. (Must be tested using the PSN server). Uploads are quite consistent though.

I just tested mine twice and get similar results to yours.
1.4 down and 0.48 up, and
2.4 down and 0.49 up

Another thing you can try is setting your optimal MTU.


MTU Size

The MTU is the maximum size of data packet that can be sent by your PC/PS3. It will vary slightly between ISPs, but if your router is using an incorrect MTU it can reduce performance and stability. You can manually find your optimum MTU pinging. In order to do this you will need administrator access to your router.

1) Log into your router as administrator and find the MTU setting. If it isn't already, set it to 1500 and save.
2) Click 'Start' => 'Run' and type 'CMD' to open a command prompt. Type the following, followed by 'Enter':
ping -f -l 1472 www.google.com

3) Keep reducing the MTU by 10 until you do not see the message "packet needs to be fragmented".
4) Now keep increasing the number by 1 until the message returns. When it does, revert to the previous MTU that worked.
5) Add 28 to this number, and you now have you optimal MTU. (eg, if the MTU that worked was 1442, your optimal MTU would be 1470.)
6) Return to your router, enter this number as the MTU and save.

Also make sure to check the MTU setting in your PS3's internet settings. You can choose to set this manually and use the same number as for your router. However, setting it to automatic should make it use this value automatically.

Had a great night, shuffle was more fun except for that pingpingpingping of a car I got. At least a few had a good laugh as they lapped me. I had tears down my face as it was so funny just trying to drive in a straight line, not sure if I hit MGR on his cool down lap as i was trying to make it to the finish line. I think I crossed the finish line with less than a second before time out.

Fucking hilarious, Car is almost undrivable with any throttle in first 3 gears, will light em up in the first 4

Is not much good at Monza coz it hits the limiter at around 250-260 - needs custom box.

With custom box you need to hit the anchors at least 100m before the *first* braking marker :D

On speedtest I got it up to 369km/h :D

Given the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 5 on Tuesday and the fact that several AL members will be in Singapore this Thursday the next series will start on Thursday 26th September (next week).

Round 1 - 26th September
Round 2 - 3rd October

Break - 17th October (No Limits Event)
Round 4 - 24th October
Round 5 - 31st October
