Serious question: Was it always parked where it could be seen?

Unfortunately yes, The only option I have.

It seems to be the pattern with all these stolen cars lately. They see the easy target and know keys will be inside.

I don't think it'll be long before insurance companies refuse to insure cars which are parked outside.

hopefully they get the bastards, fingers crossed for you dude.

This is why i always make sure my car is never out the front or no one has followed me for a few tunrs when i pull into my driveway.

you understand insurance companies are businesses and need to make a profit to ultimately survive right?

sucks to hear, happening way too often.

I'm sure the insurance companies are doing more then enough to just survive, not much just a little.

. When you do up a quote there is a difference in your premium when you say your car is parked in a garage compare to your driveway

And this is the reason why they do as its more likely to be stolen .

What's the go guys with making sure my driveline isn't damaged, so insurance doesn't bone me.

I'm sure you could have a full mechanical inspection. A friends car that was stolen had his clutch replaced 3 months after it was repaired by RAC with no issues

I sometimes do stolen car inspections at work. We test drive them, go over everything and do compression tests etc so if anything is fucked it gets reported to the insurance company.

Im pretty sure the insurance company requests the inspection.

Let us know how it goes - interested to see what the typical damage is after a car theft and recovery.

I always feel bad for asking, but any chance for pics of damage/etc?

Car is a write off, they fairly thrashed it. Pretty much every panel has a dent or scratch in it except the roof, new diff is fucked, all 4 brakes need replacing, all 4 wheels dented/rashed. Steering rack leaking, new water pump and hoses leaking and a fair bit of noise from the motor on idle from the lifters etc.. Compression test was good apparently. The car will be auctioned off at pickles not sure when but you might be able to pick up a cheap cammed ls1 with a 6 speed manual made 386hp at wa perf. Pretty devo about the whole ordeal. But thats why you have insurance kiddies, just glad no one was hurt. Thanks again guys.

Glad to hear it was written off if it was in that condition

Sorry to hear mate. By the way they were thrashing it I am very surprised they didn't have a serious accident. It's disgusting that these pricks can thrash a car and have absolutely zero respect.

Chances are it wont go cheap at auction as majority of bidders wont know the history. All they see is a manual V8 commodore with exhaust & intake mods with repairable panel damage... Will go for like $7k unlicensed plus fees imo

Update. One of the pingpingpingpings got charged 3 weeks back, just got a call today. He plead guilty and copped a $500 fine plus court costs. This justice system is beyond fucked, Breaks into my house, steals my wallet and car and then breaks into another house. I am so dissapointed and disgusted at how we as hard working tax paying citizens are protected by the courts.

Maybe call the news and see if they are interested in running a story about how you now fear this happening again, invasion of privacy, the injustice to innocent victoms etc? I guess your insurance excess was around the same sort of $$ as his fine?

I heard a similar story from my neighbour where they caught one of the three guys and he was asked to attend mediation.
The 15yo original Australian didn't name the other 2 guys, wouldn't say what they did with the stolen property or cars, didn't say a word during the talks and the ALS representative asked the victim to accept his apology and was how shall we say.... annoyed.

He lost 2 cars, 80K worth of homewares and jewellery as they were on holidays at the time and copped a warning from the mediator as he was acting "aggressively"... Beyond a fucking joke

$500 fine is a fucking joke. That is not justice at all. No doubt he will be breaking into some poor bastards home on the way back from court to thieve another wallet and phone etc and with another stolen car will then drive off to cash converters to gather the $$$ to pay the bill.

SimonR32

$500? Are you serious, what a joke! Cheaper than renting a car...

How can a judge see this as a deterrent? Was it a juvi?

Yeah going to contact my insurance company tomorrow and get my excess back. Cost us more to replace the locks in the house then he got fined. I know what i'm doing next time if i catch them that's for sure. Big thanks to everyone who called with info, and charger who gave chase all through the southern suburbs. We "hoons" aren't so bad after all huh?
