1. Won it last year.
2. Isn't in the running this year, thank God. (you can't vote for it)
3. Same as above.
Thankfully, it's one of the very few music related voting competitions that limits the retarded under 16's from voting for their current favourite pop song.

Almost damn impossible to pick 10. My shortlist was un-cullable at 37 songs. In the end I picked the songs which had the best memories attatched to them...didn't make it much easier. But here goes!
Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine? - My pick of the year, although being one from early in the year, unfortunately won't poll well due to short memories.
Major Lazer - Jah No Partial {ft. Flux Pavilion}
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Thrift Shop {ft. Wanz}
Knife Party - Bonfire
Thao & The Get Down Stay Down - Holy Roller
Bloody Beetroots, & Greta Svabo Bech -Chronicles Of A Fallen Love
Frank Ocean - Super Rich Kids
Hermitude - HyperParadise {Flume Remix}

Not quite sure what everyone's problem is - it's a very well-composed song.
The comments on YouTube since the announcement are disgraceful; if it's not your style, fine, but don't have a fucking whinge about it all over Facebook, all over YouTube, and all over the internet in general.
I genuinely wonder how many of those hating on the song would still be doing so if it hadn't made it on to commercial radio? Unfortunately there's a big stigma in today's "Triple J society" that anything on commercial radio is junk and should be treated as such regardless of how good it actually is...

Glad Breezeblocks made it up there. Dont mid Thrift Shop but I agree that there were better songs, obviously just less popular.
As for being ruined by getting high rotation on commercial radio I don't listen to commercial so wouldn't know what the fuck they play aside from wankers talking and annoying commercials every 30 seconds.

But it's not a good song. People get suckered in by a catchy beat and that's it. Look at Nicki Minaj. Bitch has no talent, it's the repetitiveness of the music that fools people into thinking it's something good when it really isn't.

Who would of thought people have different type of music.
I barely listen to that radio I heard todays winner a week ago knowing it will win it has a pretty simple formula, very catchy beat, random but very catchy chorus that has profanity perfect combination for the masses.
This is fucking awesome.

I don't mind Thriftshop or Maklemores other songs. But it was obvious it was gonna take out first place. Pretty much any song that is popular around December is going to place high in the hottest 100. I guess people just have short memory spans.
Even more so when songs are catchy and get picked up by commercial stations.

I dunno, I think there are alot of non listeners who tune in and contribute to the hottest 100. I reckon its the reason for the last few years songs that have won are also played these days on commercial stations aswell., not like 10 years ago when queens of the stona age took it out, really have never heard that stuff nova etc. I'm sure this is one of the many reasons why.

The Herd have a pretty poor track record of making the Top 100 unfortunately, I put it down to (this year at least) Urthboy fans spreading their votes over over a few songs, you voted for Stories but I voted for Orphan Rocker and Knee Length Socks, I assume Naive Bravado picked up a few votes as well which eventually thinned him out of the top 100?
Surprised Tuka/Jane Tyrrell and Nas didn't get in.

I'd never noticed, but now that you mention it, they never really have been up there despite some relatively popular songs, although Hermitude did well last year. I had Knee length socks in my shortlist too, but just couldn't fit two Urthboy tracks in and miss another artist completely... so yep I'd agree that was how it went.
