The thread for this years Moto GP chat.

Who watched the first race in the early hours of the morning or recorded it?

One word. AWESOME!
Great to see the rookie Marc already up to speed, I am sure Jorge won't have it that easy all year and of course Vale is back on a bike he's happy with, 2nd place for the 34 year old isn't bad!

I stayed up somehow and watched it

It was tops. I really hope Marqez can battle with lorenzo at some point.

Pedro is no-where, hope he sorts his shit out.

Cal did well till he pushed just a bit to hard with Rossi.

Really looking forward to Texas.

I felt a bit for Cal watching him lose out on the straight, have to claw it back in the corners just to lose out on the straight over and over!!

Marc was the quickest testing in Texas so next race should be interesting :)

Fantastic race, other than Lorenzo being out in front by a mile. Last few laps were epic, good to see Rossi back up the front and Marquez was just awesome..

Post race interviews were great...

Lorenzo telling the assembled media that Rossi may have used more gas than him but also more brake. Was all taken in good humour which means Rossi and Lorenzo must have sorted their shit out.

What a great race!!!.

Got up at 2:30 and managed to stream the whole race from the one HD website.

I wonder where Rossi would of finished if he didn't drop back to seventh on the 2nd lap?

I was spewing about Staring's DNF. Met him and his family at Phillip island in 2008 and he is a great bloke.

It will be an interesting race. Marquez seems to be more likeable than Lorenzo IMO. but some of his passing manoeuvres from his moto2 days wont go down well in this class.

Jazza
21-04-2013, 01:20 AM
He was quickest in testing here and quickest again so far. Being a new track it's perfect for him to show his ability which he seems to be able to do!

Rossi and Simoncelli pulled some pretty questionable moves in their time but everyone loved them. Can't wait to see more of this kid.
Pedrosa must be feeling like a crab. Gets rid of Stoner, my time to shine. Who the fuck is this little snot?

Jazza
22-04-2013, 06:16 PM
Not really, Pedrosa was closer to Marc than I thought he would be, leading the way for awhile but it seemed like Marc was going to win it. A bit Rossiesc in how he just sat behind him comfortably for awhile and decided to take him when he was ready to!

Sully
23-04-2013, 03:12 PM
Yeah he definitely seems like a smart racer, not the usual moto2/3 there's-a-gap-let's-go-oh-fuck-that's-not-a-gap-crash effort.
Exciting stuff. I was gutted when Simmoncelli passed, he was shaping up to be massively exciting to watch. Glad Marc has come along well and looking like being the next big thing.

The thing that bugs me though, how many other riders are there that would be putting on just as good a show if they were on a bike that was actually capable of winning. Barring freak races, it's only going to be a factory Honda or Yamaha that wins. Wish Ducati would get their shit together again!

Jazza
23-04-2013, 03:27 PM
I don't think many can beat Pedrosa on their 2nd race in a new class! The guy is a heck of a talent. Look at Dovi on the Honda, consistent but never had the same pace Marc seems to show.
Ducati are just rubbish when it comes to Moto GP, don't know how they can be that far behind all the time. They're slightly better than they were but still pretty average.

Marqez was not going to make that corner, if lorenzo didn't ride into him. I'd suggest lorenzo is going to be extra pissed becuase he made a mistake too.

DRIFT13
06-05-2013, 12:33 AM
Marquez would have made the corner, but would have run wide and missed the apex. Lorenzo seemingly was not concerned about defending the position, electing to go with the Yamaha's only good line which is wide on entry with a late apex, which means that Marquez was on the proper racing line albeit running faster and going to miss the apex. Lin Javis said it best, it was a racing incident. Fair bump, play on, Lorenzo go to the sink and wash that lip as it's gotta be filthy from all the ground dragging it's doing.

Jazza
06-05-2013, 09:26 AM
Pretty poor riding from Marquez but he is a GP rookie and we should expect such "enthusiasm" from him!

Riggs
06-05-2013, 09:35 AM
Rossi, Stoner, Lorenzo, Dohan, Lawson, Roberts, Agostini etc.

All of the top riders are guilty of pushing the etiquette boundaries. It's what makes racing exciting.

A bit dirty, yes, but that's racing. Fair bump, play on.

Pedrosa's pass on Lorenzo however. Now that was fucking first class. 100% confidence in each other.

[FFOUR]
06-05-2013, 09:53 AM
Lorenzo left the door open (as his own team boss said) so no reason why Marquez shouldn't have a go on the last corner - great stuff, makes it exciting.

DRIFT13
06-05-2013, 06:23 PM
Why do people refer to Marquez as a rookie all the time when he has been racing in top teir catagories since 2008. He did his dues in the 2 stroke times and dominated in Moto2. He has won his second ever MotoGP race and podiumed all so far. He is not a rookie to racing properly. What he is, is a racer that has been brought up with machines so equal that it takes real racing to win, not the clinical boringness of the current crop of MotoGP racers, who are more concerned about split times and tire wear than just pushing it to the edge and catching the guy in front.

That being said, marquez wasn't completely in the right, but neither was lorenzo. Miscalulations made by both with the only thing being hurt is the pride of lorenzo who is watching his own G.O.A.T. style relegation to a 2nd or 3rd place season.

Jazza
06-05-2013, 09:28 PM
I don't think many ppl refer to him as a rookie? A GP rookie as it is his first year on a GP bike.
Don't see how you can say Lorenzo made a mistake, he never hit Marquez or made any rash moves on anyone? His riding with Pedrosa is how a pass is supposed to be done!
The fact Lorenzo can put a worse bike ahead of Marquez for 99% of the race proves how good he is.
With that said I'm not taking anything away from Marquez, to be able to race like his is doing is pure class!

Funny how when Lorenzo is winning its because he made great race and push to maximum, when he's losing the bike isn't competitive .....

So far from what I have seen the yamaha has the power and maybe more then the honda when he turns the engine up. I suspect they are trying to save some engines early in this season though. It looks like a good year for the honda v yamaha. Each faster on different tracks. Pretty much what you want, hope it stays this way.

Just wish Suzuki would put in a proper bike and ducati could sort their shit. This two horse race is mind numbing.

Jazza
06-05-2013, 10:26 PM
I don't support Yamaha or Honda, I couldn't care less but I don't think Yamaha has had the fastest bike last year or this, Lorenzo's consistency is what makes him impressive.
I am a Rossi fan, and pretty chuffed with him finishing 4th! hahahahaa :)
100% agree on wanting more competitive bikes though.

DRIFT13
07-05-2013, 01:13 AM
Dovi and hayden were both quicker at the post race testing on the new Ducati frame! Rossi was slower than both. Marquez was fastest :P!

mr_mike
07-05-2013, 12:49 PM
Suzuki have a factory backed 4cyl GP bike in testing currently and its supposed to make a wildcard entry at a race this year.

Lorenzo did make a mistake, he gave marquez an oppertunity. In post post race interviews everyone has said it was racing no harm no foul. everyone finished and got the points thats the main thing.

Did anyone els enotice how much of the ripple strip Marquez was using on each corner, litrally if he put a knee or elbow down he would of touched the grass. Be intresting to see if he does the same come a wet race when then ripple strips become like ice.

NS! he was almost trimming the tops off the daisies on some of those corners. I for one loved the last corner move, yeah he didn't pull it off smoothly but it needs that kind of desperation to win to make it entertaining again imo...

Sully
07-05-2013, 02:32 PM
Yeah his lines were even more evident with Lorenzo not being able to turn in well in Jerez and taking LLLAAAAAATTTEEE apexes on anything even resembling a sharp corner.

There should be some pretty epic photos floating around from the weekend because of it. Marquez on the very edge of the ripple strips hanging over an infield full of yellow flowers with Lorenzo cutting across the front of him. Look awesome hah!
