With the wet weather coming up Im looking for decent brands of tyres that perform well on wet roads! i cant afford to be slipping and sliding in my s13, obviously driver control is a major factor but having a decent set of tyres will help alot! im looking for some info on what people here are running on their cars and what brands you find work well in grip!

any help would be great

Really? Ive never had a problem. I just bought some second hand tyres from someone on here, took them to my local and they fitted them up straight away no issues. It hardly takes them any time. They also only charged me $25 each to put tubes in my sierra farm car rims that were rusted to hell. Again, did them straight away and didn't hesitate.

Maybe try taking them somewhere else

I'm having a good run with my KU19s. There's only so much grip a 245 tyre can give an 1800kg car with 500rwhp, but they've done a surprisingly good job and lasted a while. I think they've been replaced by the KU22?

Im using Hankook Evo S1's atm. R33 with 350rwhp 265 rears and 235 fronts. I can actually floor it in second 80% of the time in the wet and not spin teh tyres. The Federal 595's would let go waaay before. $199 each for 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 at State west tyres is good by me :D

From my experience I found the Toyo R1R a great tyre in the wet and would highly recommend it.

Bridgestone potenzas are great tyres... even better is the Bridgestone S001, astonishing wet road grip, not such a great wear rating but i guess thats why they are so good.

Michelin Pilotsport 3 is what I've been running and found their wet handling and braking to be far superior to anything else I've driven on.

Depending on what size you're chasing they can be very competitively priced (I got mine for $1000 for a set of 4 in 235/40 18 95W).

Nexens should also be in the hilariously bad section. My legnum was like it was on skates in the wet, even with 4wd. My step dads grange also had nexens on the rear and was nearly undeliverable

My ute had Goodyear eagle f1 d5s on it. Unbelievable grip. They were 245 40 18s and were better than the 265 hankooks on ATM. They're actually for sale if you're interested in that size, but I guess the profile would be too big for a s13. Done less than 2000kms

For 17's? How many blowjobs would come with the tyres for that price? I pay less for 19's! You can get them on ebay and delivered for less. You could probably start a tyre company and produce them for less. Slight exaggeration but you see what I'm getting at. Shit is expensive.

Most common household tyre brands nowadays produce tyres which will perform at an reasonable level in all conditions. With this in mind you generally get what you pay for. So a $100 tyre will be fine but a $250 will be epic. From my experience the Potenza RE002 is great in the wet and reasonably priced. Not sure what size you're after but as a guide, I could get you 235/45R17s for around $160 per tyre. This would be direct from Bridgestone Australia so not a parallel import.

Hope that helps, if you need a price on a specific size just let me know.

Cheers

cheers for all of the info guys, Im leaning towards Potenza's at the moment in 215/45(<- i think)/17. Got a regular client that gets his car detailed monthly by me at my work who owns a tyre joint so going to exchange a few details for tyres :D

Continentals are Great but big $$$$
Yokohams Advan Sports have been best value for money tyre to suit my car to date. Good performance alround rolling on a 2 tonne car.

Out of Kumho KU36, Nitto NT-05, Falken RT615 and Bridgestone RE002 I have found the RE002s to be probably the best in the wet but not by much. However they are miles behind the other three in the dry so personally I am happy to lose a small amount of wet grip to gain a lot more dry grip. Its just a matter of driving appropriately.

Another supporter of the Michelin Pilotsport 3's. Can't fault them in the dry or the wet.

Saves starting a new thread...

Achilles tyres? Good? Shit?

Just in general use (dry/wet, no track work etc)

I'm running Khumo ecsta X3. They seem ok. When I do more upgrades I'll have to go better tyres as well, can spin all 4 in the dry with a hard launch

I found they gave me awesome grip levels in the dry (mutch better than the factory Bridgestone RE050A) but in the wet they were a set of ice skates

18", 235/40 and 275/35 or 265/35 IIRC.

I thought they wouldn't be too good in the wet. Car barely gets driven, so looking at an affordable option while studying. Heading down to the track is a while away (once I finish my degree) so figured sufficient tyres for street use will be enough until then.
