Sony Computer Entertainment Celebrates 15 Years of Gran Turismo®
Event Report , General information , 15th Anniversary
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will host a celebration of the 15th anniversary of ‘the real driving simulator’ at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit (UK) on 15th May, 2013. The original Gran Turismo® game was first seen in Japan in December, 1997, after five years of development by legendary designer Kazunori Yamauchi, and then released around the world during 1998. The franchise went on to become multi award winning and the biggest-selling PlayStation® title ever.
Yamauchi-san is set to provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game at Silverstone. His passion for all things automotive is evident in the ever-increasing levels of realism and attention to detail in Gran Turismo, and the huge range of cars for which it is famous. Strong relationships with the many manufacturers that have featured in the franchise have led to some fascinating co-operations with the automotive world; such as the Red Bull X2010 ultimate race car, GTbyCitroën concept, a design co-operation for a display featuring on the real Nissan GT-R and an innovative new app developed for the Toyota GT86.
In a close partnership with Nissan, PlayStation has taken the virtual-to-reality overlap, inspired by Gran Turismo, to a new level in the form of the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy. The now-famous racing driver development programme selects the fastest GT gamers from around the world and transfers their talent to real-world racing. The competition began in 2008 and has gone from strength to strength. Over three million people have entered since its inception, and graduates of the Academy have recorded some impressive results, including a second-place finish in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class. Five Gran Turismo gamers turned GT Academy champions will be on hand at Silverstone. The ‘Nismo Athletes’ will be showing off their real-world racing skills with some high-speed passenger laps around the famous circuit, a track that has, so far, never featured in Gran Turismo.
This mutual respect and increasing blurring of the lines between the virtual and real, has led to the Silverstone event being well supported by a host of other manufacturers as well, such as Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla and Toyota. Real-life versions of their cars, old and new, familiar to the legions of passionate Gran Turismo fans will be on display and on-track as part of the event.
“The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation,” explained Jim Ryan, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event. As well as experiencing the development of the franchise and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what’s next for Gran Turismo.”

Iirc the development cycle in the past has been such that odd gts take ages and evens seem to come along quickly after? Like 3-4 wasn't that long of a wait. Was it? So long ago and I was so shit anyway. Nope, talking shit... I just didn't get the ps2 for over a year after its release, so 3-4 didn't seem so long.
My current rental is a shoebox, literally the 52" TV takes up most of the "TV room". Hopefully I can crack out the old play seat when I move to a new place towards the end of this year, I never bothered learning to play on the controller.

Sony South Africa dun fucked up and broke there own embargo:
Sony Computer Entertainment has announced Gran Turismo 6, the latest version of PlayStation's best-selling franchise, will be released in the holiday season, 2013. The news was revealed today by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the top-selling series.
"GT6 for PlayStation 3 will bring new levels of authenticity to 'the Real Driving Simulator' as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface," a press statement read.
"A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content."
The game is also set for connectivity with devices such as smartphones and tablets for social and community functions.
All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo 5 will be retained in GT6. But notable additions to the line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online.
Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalise their own custom cars in-game as well.
The UK's Silverstone Circuit will be one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them being new.
New tracks are also set to be made available online, while the course maker has also seen improvements.
The press statement confirmed that the GT Academy series, which sees Nissan and Sony team up to find real racing drivers, will be returning.
Other notable partnerships in the development of GT6 have been with tyre manufacturer Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive.
"It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo," explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit.
"Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We're pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform.

That looks like the new budget version of the PS3 released a few months ago
For me this cements my decision not to buy a PS4 at launch. I only bought my PS3 originally for GT5, so unless Uncharted 4 is announced it'll be a while before I get a PS4.
Holiday period is perfect, time to go play seat shopping.

Would make sense for a special commemorative edition of PS3. Hopefully it actually includes a specially coloured console (like the US got the White PS2 back in the day) rather than just different packaging...

Gran Turismo®6 is coming!
Event Report , Gran Turismo®6 , 15th Anniversary
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™), the latest version of PlayStation®’s best-selling franchise, will be released in Holiday, 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.
GT6 for PlayStation®3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface. A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content. Meanwhile, the game is also set for expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets and increased social and community functions.
All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo®5, which has sold over 10m copies since launching in 2010, will be retained in GT6. But notable new additions to the already impressive line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online. Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalize their own custom cars in game to the greatest ever level possible.
The UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in Gran Turismo 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them brand new. There will also be regular additions of new tracks set to be made available online. The improved course maker function will provide gorgeous scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía.
The theme of Gran Turismo’s innovative collaborations with partner companies will increase with the inception of GT6. A number of exciting new projects that blur the line between the virtual and real will be announced in the run up to the game’s launch. Not least of these is GT Academy, a collaboration with Nissan to unearth real racing driver talent that first ran in 2008. It was announced during the event that the competition returns for its biggest ever year in 2013, with the entry mechanic set to take place on an exclusive GT6 demo in July.
Other notable partnerships in the development of GT6 have been with tire manufacturer Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive. Both companies are active in the commercial car industry and in racing, and they have acted as technical development partners for the game’s new physics engine, for its tire and suspension kinematic modeling, creating an even more realistic experience for GT fans.
“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”
The celebration of 15 years of Gran Turismo event at Silverstone included a demo of GT6 featuring the famous circuit. Guests were able to play the game in the familiar circular Gran Turismo race pods before having a chance to take to the real track in cars provided by Audi, Ford, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota.
Further news about Gran Turismo 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events.

Very loyal community they want to squeeze more cash from while they can?
GT5 already seems to be bottle necked by the PS3 and with the PS4 already announced, to me, it would make more sense if they went all out and released it exclusively on the PS4 to properly utilise the new hardware and create a serious step up in the franchise. IF it is released on PS4 it will likely be nothing but a port and we will have to wait until 2018 for a GT that properly makes use of the PS4 hardware, not the mention the amount of consoles it would sell if it was a launch (or close to it) title.
that said I'll probably still buy it.

If they have all premium cars, fix the sound issue that your c63 sounds like a civic with a full exhaust, have a damage noise other than "thunk", the extra 200 cars are not just different variations of the R35 and S13's and they manage to actually release it this year and not 2047, well keen :D

It was clearly unpolished as a finished product which they corrected with massive amounts of patches.
You're right it took a long time to be released which put pressure on them to get it out asap hence the unfinished product.

Early days, but... Thoughts? I've spent a couple of hours and here's mine:
Graphics = more or less GT5.
Sound = haven't paid much attention yet. Which probably indicates GT5.
Physics = definite changes, as we knew there would be. Couple of times the car spat me out from over corrections in a way GT5 never would have. In fact on those occasions it caught me completely off guard because GT5 literally did not have its physics set like that.
The cars certainly seem more on edge and reactant to inputs. less forgiving. I'm sure you all would agree you can 'feel' the tyres more now, as well as more subtleties in the suspension.
Because of that, I'm actually feeling my 5+ yr old G25 wheel might need an upgrade to something more sensitive and stronger like the Thrustmaster TS500 (here's hoping compatible with PS4?!).
Frenchy
04-07-2013, 02:33 PM
Graphics are very PC-esque
I found the 370z seemed to 'feel' really nice through corners, but as above it has no hesitations with tank slapping the shit out of you. Really loving the feel of the physics on this one
masTers
04-07-2013, 02:44 PM
I think having watched a few Forza 5 videos the graphics will forever be ruined for me. I didn't really notice the sound either, will need to wait for a variety of cars I think.
Still does look very nice, and the physics as mentioned are definitely improved over GT5. Will give it run when it's released.

+1 on the new physics. You can really feel the suspension and tires working, a break-though! Graphics/sound GT5 spec. I found that if you have a punt, the engine loses volume like a flash bang in a FPS. Music blows too/ crap tire screeching.
SimonR32
04-07-2013, 04:26 PM
How big is the download?
A few impressions of the demo:
Physics:
- Suspension upgrades quite apparent. Roads cars roll more realistically now.
- Tyre model improved, especially at low speeds.
- Tank slapping is a little more aggressive, but the cars are easier to catch.
- FFB effects improved when drifting. Steering wheel unloads and slips through the fingers better when manji drifting.
- Lift-off oversteer in FWD cars more realistic.
- In general, cars have slightly less tendency to understeer.
Graphics
- Softer and improved HDR lighting.
- Crappy aliasing alpha effects in GT5 caused by smoke have been fixed.
- Autumn Ring had an overhaul. Looks like a proper GT5 track instead of a re-hashed GT4 track.
- Small tweaks: Leaves fall from trees and get thrown up by cars off track, jet streams in sky, ducks flying in formation etc.
- Framerate not sustaining solid 60fps in 1080P mode though, particularly at Silverstone.
Sound
- Basically GT5 spec. Maybe very minor improvements.
- Music? Fuck knows. First thing I disable.
Features
- Start game, quick splash screen then BOOM, straight to menu. Much faster.
- Track loading times seem much quicker too.
- In pre-race screen all tracks display the time-of-day and track dampness.
(Hopefully all tracks have dynamic time and weather).
- Interface in general much easier on the eye.
- AI cars pit after end of race instead of perpetually circulating like zombies.

Anyone know what region Australia is in for this competition?
I would have assumed Australia was in its own region, however if that was the case then we have an inordinate amount of talented Canadian, Swiss and Brazilian drivers here in Oz.
I'm ranked about 40th 'regionally', yet I am in 6th place if you only count those with Aussie flags next to their names.
My assumption is that our rankings are thrown in with a bunch of other illegible countries, hence the consistent flags popping up next to people's names on the leader boards. I can't find any info on that, so that's the theory I'm going with. Anyone heard differently?

I am pretty disappointed with this demo, besides a slight improvement in physics you would think you are just playing GT5.

For anyone that cares, my results from giving GTAcademy a crack. Best lap was a 2:18.111. I think there was about 3/10ths to take off that time but I never quite got my shit together for the one magical 'superlap' where everything is done as perfectly as able.
It sucks the Aussies were ineligible, but my lap time would have put me in the following positions in the following countries, had I been competing in them:
#1 in Korea
#1 in Thailand
TOP 3 in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Norway
TOP 10 in Hong Kong, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Hungary, Sweden, Finland
TOP 20 in Portugal, Belgium & Luxembourg, Holland, Poland, Russia
TOP 50 or just outside in the UK, US, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, France – countries which are all highly populated and/or heavily into motorsport
35th in all other ineligible countries worldwide combined.
Apparently 1.4million people downloaded the demo, but I don't know how many went all the way through to try the full course Academy time trial. But I'm still happy with those results regardless!
Anyway, looking forward to the real GT6 and its new physics. And getting back into some Antilag online racing again :P
ps s13-steve : Having spent some decent time on the demo, saying the physics are slightly improved is definitely an understatement; heading back to GT5 last night really showed they've made some nice progress..

Excellent time mate! Seeing you on the sims in real life i am not suprised!
Are you still able to download it? I cant see it anywhere.
That's some good work Alex! Shame we're not eligible for the academy here
I had been meaning to sit down for a few hours and nail down a good lap but kept putting it off until it was too late, all I did was the first sector with the controller....derp.

Gran Turismo®6 to Feature Legendary Bathurst Circuit
<iframe width="480" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/DA8bgld5sU8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Polyphony Digital Inc. have announced that Gran Turismo®6, launching on 6 December 2013, will include the famous Bathurst circuit in Australia. The track features for the first time in Gran Turismo history.
Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit, Bathurst, to give it its full name, is the home of motorsport in Australia. Located in New South Wales, it has a rich motorsport history - the first race held there was the 1938 Australian Grand Prix and it now hosts the Bathurst 12 Hour and the Bathurst 1000 races amongst others.
The challenging circuit is 6.213km (4 miles) long with surprisingly steep inclines, a twisty, narrow section across the top of the mountain which proves difficult to master even for the very best racing drivers, and very little run off area to allow for mistakes.
Gran Turismo 6 will bring Bathurst to life in living rooms around the world. The location has been recreated with great attention to detail, and next generation technology making the 3D model rendering better than ever: the result is a virtual carbon-copy of the Bathurst track, which will make the gaming experience truly absorbing for all who experience it.
“We are very pleased to be able to include Bathurst in our expanded selection of race tracks available in Gran Turismo,” said Kazunori Yamauchi, the Gran Turismo creator and President of Polyphony Digital Inc. “Since its inception 15 years ago, Gran Turismo has listened to fan feedback and added extra features so that we now offer 1200 cars and 33 circuits from all across the world. It seems only right that the legendary Mount Panorama circuit is included as fans will now have a chance to drive one of the toughest tracks out there. Described by some as Australia’s very own Nürburgring, this is a formidable track that will provide an exciting new challenge for PlayStation gamers.”

9 days to go.
I heard rumours that they're incorporating a mobile GPS app which can be used by the course maker to re-make any course that you've recorded while in your own car. VERY keen to see this happen.
*edit* It appears it might be a dongle that plugs into the OBD2 port.
"Gran Turismo 6 is adding a wild new feature that may not be strictly useful for most gamers, but shows just how dedicated to car culture the folks at Polyphony Digital are. It’s called a “GPS Data Visualizer,” and allows you to transfer driving data from an actual car into Gran Turismo 6. Then, you can analyze your performance and find places to improve.
The “GPS” part of this feature’s name might have you assuming it offers some low-rent functionality. After all, it wouldn’t be difficult to track GPS and just recreate a path based on that. There’s way more going on here though. The CAN-Gateway ECU tracks almost every piece of data — gas, brake, wheel angle, water temperature… just about every record-able metric you can get from a car. As a result, the re-creation in Gran Turismo is almost identical to your real-life driving, which is pretty damn cool. Don’t expect to use this feature with that ’96 Honda Accord you have sitting out in the driveway though. This functionality is exclusive to cars equipped with Toyota Motor Corporation’s CAN-Gateway ECU. As I said before, it’s not a feature just anyone is going to be able to use, but it shows just how progressive Polyphony is about car culture as opposed to video game culture."

My thoughts exactly, although the more I read into it the more it appears it's just for comparing your real-life times on the tracks which already exist in the game.
Surely it couldn't be that hard to use the g-force readers in a phone to do what I'm saying though...

The 'GPS Course Maker' and 'GPS Data Visualiser' are two different features.
Course Maker
This feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content.
GPS Visualiser
In a future update, we will add the GPS Visualiser. This is a feature that allows you to import Controller Area Network (CAN), used to regulate automobile systems, and GPS coordinate data from a real life car into Gran Turismo 6, and visualise the data as a replay in the game. The feature is planned to be compatible with the Toyota Motor Corporation’s CAN-Gateway ECU.
Neither will be available at launch though.

few of my first impressions..
not overly different to GT5 (not that I was really expecting it to be), still has most of the same annoyances as GT5.. takes so long to go to the next race, I counted like 11 button presses, I cant find a way to turn traction control off by default – pain in the ass having to turn it off every time. Most cars sound the same, and the tyre screeching noise is horrendous. I dont think the graphics have really improved, the glare and lighting of the sky on some tracks looks really shit. Physics have definitely changed, seems more difficult to hold a drift and much easier to tank slap. New tracks are cool, also thought the recommended car section is pretty handy too.
Sciflyer

Traction control seems to stay off once you graduate past the novice leagues ? I had to keep setting it as you said, then at some point it stayed off :)
I actually think the loading times are much improved, they've done a good job there.
Tyre noise is pretty much the same as my car when I've done track stuff, street tyres on standard suspension= lots of tyre squeal...

One thing I have noticed while playing today. Changed rims, silver CE28's. The rim colour changes in replays from black, to bronze, to silver depending on where the sun is coming from / its mood. Doesn't really matter, but would be nice if they stayed the same :p
Other than that, feels like a more user friendly GT5 so far. The mazda dealer is stupid, nearly 3 pages of identical mx5's. But was expecting that. Still having the same old GT fun, wasn't expecting it to massively change (though after the car noises from NFS most wanted or whatever it was, and doing constant tunnel runs, I hope GT7 does fix that problem at least...)

Picked this up yesterday, last time I played any GT game was when GT5 was launched, that lasted about 3 days before epic disappointment set in so badly that I didn't touch it again, ever. The sound is the worst part of GT6 I think, not only do most cars only remotely sound like their real counterparts (re: generic.wav) but I bought a Toyobaru 86 "Racing" and with a full racing exhaust but still NA, it was hardly louder or any different in sound than it was stock. Then I added a turbo and there is now 3 sounds, I either get nothing at all, standard exhaust noise or a mixture of asthmatic sounding induction/turbo. Still on the subject of sound, I don't remember even the GT5 soundtrack being this bad/annoying/repetitive? I miss that cool-as-fuck-lounge-jazz from the old days...
Night racing is pretty disappointing so far too, I noticed that when heading up Mt Panorama after the first left corner, most of the ground on the sides of the track basically disappears and where there should at least be the black silhouette of the actual mountain, there is only sky. Other annoyances aside from the still useless AI is the ease of the license events, not even trying I got gold almost every first attempt, half the time well below the gold time requirement too - why even bother to have them in the game any more? To me the game now feels even more outdated and GT6 feels like what GT5 prologue should have been like. The 'premium' cars do look good yet only marginally better than Forza 4 cars IMHO. You still can't check out the interior etc in photo mode so why spend all that time making the interior look good, at a small distance, through a reflective window?
The only smile GT6 has put on my face so far is doing stupidly long one-wheel-peels with the `65 GT350 around Autumn Ring, which is my second most favourite GT track and I am very happy to see the original tracks back, Loch Ness is still hanging out on Trial Mountain, still in PSX quality too.
Still early days though and I'm glad I've got a 'new' racing game to sink some time into again since I sold my 360 early this year and CBF'd buying a new-gen console. So far I would rate GT6 as pretty-much-exactly-the-same-as-GT5-all-things-and-time-considered.
I'm glad there are microtransactions for people to waste money on, hopefully it will give Polyphony enough extra revenue to make GT7 actually feel like a modern, finished game. If it isn't, the GT franchise is dead to me. Pity.
Masters - Doesn't look like it. There are a few complete GT6 car lists around, easy to find them.

Purchased this today.
At first I wasn't going to bother but I wanted a new racing game, and can't afford to buy an XB1 for Forza 5 just now. (Though I've heard that's relatively shit too).
GT5 was to me, a complete piece of shit... oh and the kombi race near the start can go fuck itself in the ass with a razorblade and a bottle of vinegar.
First impressions: Seems okay, races are fun enough, but that might be because I haven't touched GT games properly in years and this seems 'new' to me. Graphics seem alright, but nothing is jumping out at me going "HOLY SHIT THIS IS AMAZEBALLS".
Looking at some of the shadows across the track as the game does it's little intro to you zooming along behind every other prick just before race start, makes me laugh at how shithouse they can be at times. The cars themselves so far have all looked alright. The backdrops do look quite spectacular sometimes, as does the lighting for the most part. They need to implement the actual headlights properly for AI vehicles, looks all great at night, until you see yourself with a lone beam of light actually coming from those switched 'on' head lights.
Game also needs damage... and the shitty thud when you hit another vehicle/wall etc. Seriously... I think they just use the same midi file from fkn PS1, it needs to go.
The sounds are fairly average. I understand there needs to be tyre screech, but the GT devs, must seriously get a raging fucking boner listening to that shit, which is why they seem to put this sound so far out and above everything else.
The cars I've driven have all been pretty mediocre, so the engine sounds all sound quite the same, with only a slight difference here and there, so I wont rag THAT until I can get some decent cars happening. The soundtrack I enjoy going into races and whilst racing... though I think I'll play with the settings a bit next time I play. I'd rather listen to some beats to drown out that screeching bullshit, cause engine noise from what I've seen aint gonna cut it.
That all said, I AM enjoying it so far. I look forward to opening up the online stuff. I think it's great that your friend's times show up for licensing etc and gives you yet another challenge. It's also very satisfying knowing you've slapped them in the face by beating their time by a considerable amount. Menu's are easy to navigate, there isn't a bazillion items on screen that are hiding another hundred things behind them like the older GT's used to.
I'm interested to see how drifting is in this game, I quite enjoyed drifting in Forza 4 and a little (though not so much) in Horizon. Also keen to check out the customization further.

Yeah the generic.wav engine noises needs updating.. As a comparison played a couple games of Dirt 3 vs GT6 yesterday and Dirt3 shits on it sound wise. The Group B Audi Quattro omg <3.. they have it in GT6 and it is def using generic.wav
.. I mean ffs, just download the sound from Youtube and replace it !
Haha yes I take back what I said about the sound after driving the Quattro....so much fail.
To be fair though, GT doesnt use sound samples, it generates the sounds so they would have to "make" the Quattro sound.

Got it and have today off to enjoy. Liking it so far with the menu's a little easier and feels like a GT5.5. Hopefully by the time Bathurst is unlocked there might be a touring car available. Next option is a S6 RX-7 and pretend it's the Bathurst 12 hour!

Feels like everything that I imagined GT5 to be when that came out 3 years ago. I'm pretty happy with it anyway. Particularly the handling/tyre characteristics - with lower grade tyres you can actually feel the tyres squirming under load which is pretty cool. Also happy with the refinements to the clutch/handbrake that I've noticed - feels a lot better when sliding now and loses traction more realistically.
Don't really give a shit about the sound, my imagination has been trained to "fill in the blanks" through years of Gran Turismo use so it sounds great to me.

anyone use Racing hard tyres on a street car?
tune up my R35 GTR to 650PP, enter a race which could use "racing hard" and wtf the car is undriveable lost control so easily just with the slightest turn (was doing high-speed ring and was spinning out every time on the 1st corner) anyways swap back to Sport soft and problem gone... odd

So I finally bought the game last night after hearing about this money glitch. I thought it was a good idea to start doing this at 11pm... Turns out it was a bad idea. I started off thinking I will just buy a few cars but greed and OCD kicked in hard. The next 9 hours I did not drive a single KM, I did not modify any car, I did not sleep. All I did was a systematic sweep of EVERY REGION, EVERY MANUFACTURER, & EVERY CAR in the dealership section and bought whatever I wanted (Spent $340mil).
I ran out of time and I am now at work. I still have 3 AMG visions to sell ($60 million) and about 10 manufacturers in the American region to go through. I will finish this when I get home, if it gets patched in the next few hours and my game save does not work. I might lose the plot.

ps. Just while we're on that note... I think it's cheeky of GT6 to claim a world record for the number of cars in a game when they have so many versions of the same car. There are 20+ versions of the FD RX7, and about the same number of Mitsubishi 3000GT's, MX5's, S2000's, etc etc.
Yet to this date, the following cars (which I was expecting to be included) are not in the game:
Ferrari F12
Aston Martin DBS
Lotus Exige V6
Jaguar F-Type
Koenigsegg (of any type)
Mercedes A45
That's just a few I can think of which I thought were strange omissions, even if some of them are relatively 'new'.

Haha when going through Nissan/Honda/Mazda/Subaru I was thinking are these pingpingpingpings serious? '92, '93, '94, '96... All of essentially the same car.
I am going to refrain from modifying the cars too much. Some I bought just as a nice collection for the occasional drive. I will still do the beginner races in shitters with similar PP as the opponents. I enjoy the competitive racing portion of the game. I fucking hate grinding for $$$ to get a car for the next race so this glitch was perfect for me. I had to cash in ASAP.

You're meant to..
Not meant to delete your saved data.
No shuffle racing option at the moment so I'll run 2x one-make races (4 heats each) with PP handicaps on Thursday. Cars TBA but they'll be affordable. No doubt run some Nascar under lights so bring one of those too.
Tracks also TBA but will be predominantly (if not all) new circuits. Qualifying settings are MUCH better in GT6 so we'll be doing one-lap quallys before each race again :)
You can basically set a qually time limit (enough to do one lap) and your car will spawn a corner or two back from the start line when the session begins. Complete a lap and when the timer runs out qually finishes immediately and displays the grid, before launching straight into the race. Qually can also be set without other cars on the track so no excuses for not getting a clean lap ;)

I just do the lap to get the gold and move on. :) I don't like the licence tests and most of the time trials because SRF is forced on.
Basically SRF (Skid Recovery Force) seems to artificially increases the car's mechanical grip if it starts to slid. So instead of braking in a straight line and trying to be smooth, you just sort of chuck the car a bit sideways into the braking zone and it pulls up much quicker than braking normally.
When I say chuck I don't mean whipping the handbrake or anything like that. Just a nice aggressive 4-wheel drift toward the apex. You don't want too much sideways attitude otherwise you'll hurt your exit speed.
Just got it, came with a 15th anniversary helmet which was pretty cool, I didn't buy a special edition or anything..
I can't tell if the exploit will still work for me...only one was to know I guess.

MGR what's your psn? Keen to see where I can stack up against you haha
Did the lunar exploration challenges today, in the 3rd one I hit some rocks & the thing just launched into the air spinning and spinning. Never came down and carried me across the finish 23 seconds before the gold medal time, that happened to anyone else??

It's been patched out with v1.02
So even if I start the game not connected to the internet it won't work after updating then?

The glitch relies on you buying a car only available after updating to v1.01 and selling it after reverting to v1.00
You can play the game without updating, but when you do it'll update directly to v1.02

But when you revert back to original version & sell one for $20mil it should still work? I did it this morning, updated to v1.02 and still had my $20mil & all the cars.
There's no way for them to stop you selling the [2055] & getting bulk coin.

Only if you purchased the cars in your garage (Vision GT AMG, M4 etc) with version 1.01 of the game. These cars can still be sold in V1.00 for 20,000,000.
But if you try and buy these same cars in V1.02 (as will be the case for S_E) and sell in V1.00 it won't work.

Damn having to play the way it was intended
With the 110% login bonus today I did some seasonal events and got up to 2mil plus pretty quickly at least. I did the Hudson one, thought it would be an extra 10% so 65k so was pretty happy to get over a million for one lap :D. Would have been sweet to get a head start on cash using the loophole but oh well

Really no need for it. If your smart with your car purchase and use one car for multiple races youll save money.

Ah gotcha, seems like it's easy enough to get money anyway :p

I did the first seasonal challange, got silver, figured that will do for now and can grind for hours chasing that elusive gold later, exited, got 540k for that. So if you want to start building coin that first seasonal with the hudson works pretty damn well.
As a side note, I am yet to check if you can still gift cars? If so, let me know of some you want S_E and I can send them across.
1 thing that kind of pisses me off is that all races i've done now are rolling starts, I just done the euro hot hatch race in london, and by the time i cross the line to start the lead car is 15-16 seconds ahead.
other then that, i've been enjoying it.

I get way too carried away with buying cars... I think I have about 6 different GTRs, 5 or 6 various Evos, couple brz/86s some VWs, handfull of Silvias, all of the GT "track" versions of the cars and the HKS Evo ... basically any Jap car I can find - that has an actual interior I buy :P I can't stand to play with just a black abyss of nothingness for an interior, with a tiny little G sensor in the middle.
I drive them once, realize it's shit (or not) and never drive again lol. A prime example of this is the NSX in this game, for me at least. Was an absolute joke to drive, can't put a charger on it either. But then some other cars I thought would be shit surprised me, the BRZ being one, with a big fuck-off turbo strapped onto it is absolutely amazing, and doesn't handle completely stupidly on boost.

Yeah, the easy way to check if its a premium car is if you can use the gallery function in the dealership. Wanted a car I could put a kit on, after 900 versions of the s13 I found the premium one - 'Dia' or similar.

On the topic of 'premium' cars, what really shits me, probably more then anything else in the game is the premium/standard counterpart cars. Good example is the 1963 Corvette, factory one is a 'premium' model but the awesome 1963 Corvette racer from old school GT is still 'standard'. So lazy.
The guy who designed Gran Turismo, I swear he is just way too fucking anal about things to ever be able to put together a GT that feels like a complete game.

Just beat MGR's time on the Mito challenge, LOLLED at myself - as he probably set that as his first lap, got gold and moved on.
Add me, Risk10k :) I CBF adding everyone.

Has anyone else been having trouble downloading the GT6 update 1.08?
Modem reset and Cat6 wired connection, gets to about 25% then stops with an error code (800233EF) Not much info about it on the PSN community.

Updates took ages, but well worth it.
Senna stuff is bloody brilliant. The gold medal in the Lotus 97T at Brands Hatch was genuinely challenging (for me at least). Managed to get it after dozens of attempts.
