Needs to go online at least once a day apparently. One big thing is that you can't share games. No lending the disc to someone as all games are tied to XBOX Live accounts. You can install the game off the disc but when it see's you haven't purchased it you have to pay a "fee". Said fee is full MSRP. This potentially could fuck up buying cheap games from UK as everything will have region pricing. And when I say accounts I don't mean systems. If you buy a game and your little brother wants to use it after you're done? Noop. Full price, buddy.

Specs are pretty much the same. WiFi Direct kicks Bluetooth's ass for throughput, but that's irrelevant really. GPU is the only thing interesting for comparison, and neither have been revealed :(

As for SSD, everything can be stored on an external USB 3 drive. SSD would've been great, but I can see why they didn't bother when there is USB 3 capability.

100% prefer 4k which is why I researched it and found out that nobody is producing games in 4k, only movies.. which means Xbox's 4k capability for games which you're bragging about is completely irrelevant?
Does the comms in that image mean you can't plug an Ethernet cable into the Xbox one? Surely that can't be right!
Also USB3 is not going to be anywhere NEAR as good as an internal SSD. If either of these don't have an SSD that's effing shit.

Adding to the lack of SSD, I imagine "wear out" is still a concern for cheap SSD hardware, which is inevitably what the Xbox One and PS4 would use to minimise costs. These things are expected to have a shelf life of perhaps 10 years? I've worn out an Intel SSD in a year.

SSD run cooler thanks to no moving parts, also not prone to damage from dropping them like conventional HDD. As for longevity, it is meant to be a few years. Enough for most people anyway.

Depends on the quality of the SSD though.

I <3 SSD but generally console loading times have been quite fast anyway? No one wants to wait if the console loads games slowly.

Was good to see a bit more info come out about the XBox than when Sony did their PS4 release.

Hardware wise they are much of the same it seems, the GDDR5 in the PS4 will give it near on twice as much memory bandwidth as the DDR3 in the XBox (if i maths correctly). But not knowing the final CPU speeds and importantly GPU hardware who knows whether the overall performance will be comparable.
HDMI pass through is awesome, I haven't seemed to find any concrete info on whether the XBox does 4K output or whether it only does 4K pass through. I think it'd be a massive blunder on both companies part if they don't include native 4K support in this gen of consoles. Given an expected 7-9 year product cycle and 4K TV's being affordable most likely by next year it would be insane not to natively support the format.

Apparently you can play the game as it copies to the hard drive...I agree with some in thinking it is a shame to go with a 500Gb hard drive, but from a pricing point of view it is significantly cheaper than using an SSD. Keep in mind that per Gb and SSD is probably 5-7 times more expensive. Yes they could have gone with a small SSD but then that would have bugger all storage which would mean most people have to factor cost of an external hard drive into their decision to buy, thus inflating the price. Given the performance of hybrid SSD's I thought that might have been a better route to go as kind of get the advantages of both SSD and HDD but again cost probably dictated that decision.

NAND lifespan in SSD's is pretty good these days, will probably last as long as a HDD now (assuming well cooled, HDD's maybe 3-4 years tops if they aren't well cooled from my past experiences!).

Would have been really nice to make it easy to swap out internal hard drive like the original black XBox (thinking of when I modded those they were cake in many ways, a billion times better than PS2 at the time!). That way if users want they could swap out the internal hard drive for an SSD, and use the one boxed with it externally or something. Dunno sometimes user flexibility (at their own peril with warranty voided of course) is a good thing.

I have a PC for downloading shows. I have a phone/tablet for facebook or searching the net. I want the XBOX for games and media steaming. That is it. And that is all pretty much anyone want's them for. Over half the features they pointed out are only focused on the local US market. Seems a little pointless. What percentage of people actually give two fucks if their NFL stats update weekly? Or you can watch MLB on XBOX live? Fuck all in reality. And less when you look worldwide and see that the vast majority can't even access that sort of thing.

The PS4 is not backwards compatible either.

Microsoft (and rumours are Sony will be following) are developing an online trading store. That is, when you are finished playing a game you can trade it online back to Microsoft. This will only work with digital permissions which is why both consoles may end up with the same limitations on sharing games. Personally I think this is a fucking brilliant idea, probably the greatest innovation to come from Xbox One.

I use the seasonpass on NFL.com and just stream HD games from PC to my projector or tv or just play them on my second screen. I cancelled foxtel and used 1 months foxtel to pay for 6 months of football. Best decision of 2012. I highly recommend Seasonpass. I suprisingly watched the NFL channel a lot haha.

If anything the PS4 is much better equipped to support 4K. While the CPUS are basically identical the PS4 has 50% more GPU grunt, significantly faster GDDR5 RAM and is rumoured to require less for system processes (Xbox One requires 3GB just for OS, leaving only 5GB for games).

So word is that you can no longer stream videos from your PC like you could on the 360. If you run windows 7 or newer you can "Play To" an xbox, but you have to open the vid on the computer/tablet/whatever then send it to the TV. Kind of negates the point of it being used in a home theatre. Also can't stream your own music from your PC, or plug in a flash drive/external HDD with your stuff on it. Apps like Plex should work as it is DLNA certified, but still, that is kinda shit. Honestly thinking of not bothering with it now. There is only the 1 game I wanted, Forza, which has lost 300+ cars and a bunch of tracks over the last game. Otherwise I'd of used it in my theatre like my current xbox, but if that functionality is gone, why bother?

Been trying to download the initial update for over an hour, gone no where, I give up

Forza took couple of hours to update.
Console doesn't want to install ryse or battlefield :S
put disk in - notification pops up saying that its installing and needs an update, accept the update. Icon on home screen just shows the words install disc (doesn't show what games in the tray) and the game doesn't show up in the 'my games and apps' menu.
Will leave it and try again later, if not, back it goes.
Voice commands seem pretty good only had one or 2 times where i've had to repeat myself.
Dead rising and forza are both pretty sweet.

found issue solution with installing game thought Ryse was taking for fucking ever to install , so let it play out the first 4-5 % of games take a good 15-30mins to install but once thats done you can play the game while the other 96-95% of the game installs and its alot faster
25 mins for ryse to get to 4% becomes playable 10 mins later we are 65 % threw install
pretty handy that you can play while it installs alot of people started suggesting getting one game installed and playing that then poping in the other dics to install making most of your time ?
dont know if you can do that yet i havent tried will update when i have tried with forza next !
other then that bar code reader thing is freaky as shit missus lost it when she was getting changed and said Microsoft is probably watching XD

I've been finding mine won't let me play the game while loading, wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Insert disc, accept update/download and wait.

So after playing ghost, fm5 and bf4 yesterday I must say I love how smooth everything is, bf4 and ghost mainly.. (Only bought ghost for multiplayer, BF4 looks and sounds much better )
Had afew issues with installing games at the start so rebooted the console and it started working fine.
Still hating myself for spending so much coin yesterday though lol, but two games get boring and one controller gets worst...

I found disconnecting the console from the net speeds up the install times. re-connect to net after the game is installed and updates seems faster. not sure why, but made a difference on my console.

Yep. We waited about an hour for FM5 to install sitting at 0%. Read a couple of posts talking about doing the install offline. Yanked the ethernet cord and rebooted and installed straight away.

Pretty cool how you can play while its installing.

hows everyones consoles going?

no real problems here since i got it setup. the only problems iv had so far are party chat not turning on sometimes, and twice the consoles exited my game for no reason and gone back to the dashboard. hopefully an update soon to fix those problems

anyone had the driver problem where it makes the clicking/grinding sound? iv only seen videos on youtube of it but it sounds brutal

You can but it's fairly gay compared to previous forza's.
You change the engine package rather than 'Manufacturer specific engine swaps.

Game play is same same.
Fairly disappointed to be honest, apart from looking prettier, it's a step back from previous Forza's :(
