So, Kanye's latest album officially dropped today.
Who's had a listen?
First impression (I've only had 2-3 listens so far)... revolutionary. Genuinely impressed by how different it is. At this early stage I'm a BIG fan of it, but it's definitely not going to be to everyone's liking.
'I Am A God' has to be the most arrogant song ever produced, but regardless it's a quality track.
Some standout tracks:
Black Skinhead:

will wait to see if the beats were ripped/rehashed like watch the throne
have it down..gave a quick listen..lyrics is what will win it for me
Grabbed it on Sat thanks to Corbz, I like it. Very different but still Kayne.
Im going to go against the trend here, what I have heard so far sounds like arse and wankery.
Havent been through the whole thing but, may find something to like/get used to it over time.
*edit - Also been told it take a few spins to get into it.

It is what it is ... they all sound the same to me - he has gone down a different route - def not tradition hip hop / rap but seems to be his style now.
Keen for Jay-Z's new album to drop on July 4th i think - lots of Pharell Williams / Timberland produced tracks - will be EPIC !!!

Same here. Couple minutes in and regretted downloading it. Shit lyrics, random bits of autotune and overall a poor effort IMO, but I prefer hip-hop tracks with good lyrics/that tell a story.
Seems the ego won out and people will pay for rubbish... maybe I'm just biased but I can't listen to Drake/Weezy/Yeezy and all those other muppets.

And a French[..] restaurant
Hurry up with my damn croissants
Neck, ears, hands, legs, eatin' azz
Your pussies too good, I need to crash
Your !!s, let'em out, free at last
Thank God almighty, they free at last
Feel like Deepak Chopra
Pusssie had me dead
Might call 2Pac over
Yeezy's all on you sofa
I don't see how people can think it is a good album but each to their own... lots of websites are giving "fantastic reviews" but there is plenty of far better artists out there...

Drake is a not a rapper.
This may not be to everyone's liking, but Kayne has come out with some awesome stuff in his time.
Far better out there? Sure.
Heard Black Skinhead on triple J the other morning. Made me want to hurl myself out the nearest window. There are FAR more talented rappers out there than this show pony

Wikipedia says otherwise :P plus references to rapper, rap star etc. scattered all over the net... either way, doesn't change anything.
KanYe had some fantastic stuff years ago - I'll still listen to his older catalog.
Definitely far better artists out there now though. Some people will find this album fantastic though so each to their own.

Love this album! I'm with Paul on this one - so different and BIG sounds.
Blood On The Leaves and I Am God are my favorite tracks. I love how disjointed and all over the place the CD is, sounds very unique. Can also understand how people would not like it.
Agree with fourseven complete garbage.

Kanye can interrupt himself on stage an the next emmy awards.
I dislike his music and hate him as a human being.

Blood on the leaves is quite good. The rest of the album seems like there is a bit of filler if you ask me.

I love it, but it took at least 3 full listens. At first it seemed extremely abrasive, and I agree the lyrics are not as clever as previous albums.
Got it Sat morning along with J Cole, haven't even listened to Cole yet, Yeezus has been on repeat the whole time.

Took me two rotations and I haven't stopped listening to it since.
Can pretty much guarantee people with either love it or hate it. I love it.
I'd also be interested to know what people are using to listen to it... I noticed the other day when I had it playing in the background quietly it actually sounded like shit. Headphones on, volume up, and it's awesome.

J Cole's latest is good, but not as good as his first album IMO.
Power Trip
She Knows
Rich Niggaz
Let Nas Down
Couple of other decent tracks on there, but those are the highlights for me.

Yep, have been meaning to giving it a listen with headphones actually, will do.

Yeah, just amazing stuff. Maybe this isn't the place to be praising it, but Brockas, you're on the money.
That's 5 classic albums and an above average one, each one very unique as well. He went beyond hip hop a long time ago, he's staring down the barrel of 'all time' right now. His ego might be stopping him from being mentioned in the same breath as the greats, but it's that same ego that's allowed him to perfect his art.
I had a listen to it in the car, and it sounded terrible with just the stock speakers, had to take my headphones with me to listen to it in the car.
As for the others, J. Cole is so so, few nice tracks but pretty bland sort of stuff overall.

That's 5 classic albums
classics? id go with college dropout and graduation to be consideredfor hip hop classics...but when i think of classics im thinking AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted & Daily Operation type of classics
im not hating on his work, his production is golden but its still about the lyrics/delivery....here is an example of what i mean

Overall the album is a bit of a fail, but there's a couple of decent tracks worth listening to.
Guilt Trip with Kid Cudi is the stand out song for me.
Sorry to say but I'm not feelin this one.

Brilliance.
Still at the top of the game.
Production is smart and varied and he has taken the stagnant genre and swung it in his direction again.
I have been a Kanye fan from day dot.
People who don't get it will never get it.
There is listening to music and then there is listening to music - really getting into the layers and the complexities of how something is put together.
Kanye is the type of musician and artist that has a skill for making faultless records.
I don't care if people don't like his or don't like his music, it has no effect on me and why I am always impressed with what he does.
I'd also be interested to know what people are using to listen to it... I noticed the other day when I had it playing in the background quietly it actually sounded like shit. Headphones on, volume up, and it's awesome.
Played through my headphones and it does sound better, unfortunately when I hear the lyrics I want to stab something.

So last night/this morning I played each Yeezy album in full (in chronological order). Basically I think he's gone from a pop based genre to groundbreaking 'Kanye" genre. No one else has music like him - and hate it or love it, that's impressive. For me My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is easily his best album as it is lyrical genius mixed with a calm, measured, and incredibly different rap/hip-hop style. Probably one of my all time fave albums. 808's and Heartbreaks was definitely an experimental album as it is littered with auto-tune and that slower/calmer style that is evident in MBDTF. Not a great album, but I reckon had he not made that we wouldn't have the brilliance of MBDTF or Yeezus. I know some people will say auto-tune is only to hide a lack of vocal talent (and usually I'd agree) but I think Kanye uses it to change the tone and sound of the music, not make it lyrically crystal sharp. Graduation and Late Registration have more of the pop element in them and that's what made him famous originally (let's be honest - no one get talked about unless you're popular to start with). Much more media and radio friendly albums when compared to Yeezus (or even MBDTF), I can't see a single song of Yeezus making it into commercial radio (too harsh sounding and lyrically crass). I dunno what everyone else thinks - hell I'm no music critic, but I reckon Kanye is a genius of our generation.
In order my favorite Kanye albums;
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Graduation and Yeezus (can't spilt them)
Late Registration
The College Dropout
808s & Heartbreak

Pretty much agree with all of that ^^ Except the genius part. He's a musical talent, but he's no rhode scholar.
He actually said that even Dark Fantasy was a bit of a compromise between what he wanted to create, and what would be acceptable by the public.
He's said (in a roundabout way) that he's got enough fame and money, and now he's in a position to create exactly what he wants, which means he doesn't have to worry if it's played on the radio or not.
As such, the shit he's creating now is fucking awesome (IMO), but won't be popular with the 'pop' crowd.

I should elaborate - I mean 'genius' in the music ability/talent sense. Not intelligence based (he's far from it)!
I know this record it only 4 days old but I'm actually excited to see where he goes next. To me there's no natural progression forward from this record, so It'll be interesting to see where he takes it.
Basically I think he's gone from a pop based genre to groundbreaking 'Kanye" genre.
Pretty much agree with everything you said except that, I think College Dropout was groundbreaking for the time. In no way did it cater to the pop market.
