Ordered my Deluxe copy the other day, I'd say I should get it in the mail today or Monday. I've listened to "We Are" and "The Refusal" properly, but I know from my experiences with the rest of Karnivool's masterpieces, I'm going to rape this CD.

Themata was easy listening, Sound Awake took me a couple times to listen to, but then I literally listened to the album for a whole semester of uni. Good times.
I can forsee the same thing happening with this album.

I love each of their albums in their own right. They continually open themselves up to newer sounds and in-turn continually open my mind/musical taste up for newer sounds as well and have pretty much aided me into listening to newer/different bands that I normally wouldn't have listened to. Examples include; Chevelle, Tool, Bring Me The Horizon, SOAD, QOTSA. Those are all pretty different bands, but the versatility of Karnivool gave me that extra nudge to listen to them all.
Also, I really hope you bought the Deluxe version, because it comes with a Live DVD Set, and this was the teaser video they put out...

at the One Movement festival a few years ago, i managed to sneak back stage for their set, ended up meeting Ian Kenny and got their drumsticks and one of his signature hats. good bloke.

Oh shit yer, so jealous. I have a photographer mate who gets to go to all Karnivool gigs, he's met Ian on many occasions and has had some interesting stories to tell.
Yer definitely! I need to see if the date coincides with anything, if it's all good, I will most definitely be going. I'll let you know. :)

I'd like to see them do an album much like their Fade EP for shits and giggles. The songs on the EP are awesome. Maybe they could slip some on to their next album.
Ian's brother used to work as a glassy at the Flying Scotsman when I worked there. They used to come in every so often for a drink. Spoke with them at Rockit Festival a while back etc. Very down to earth guys.

Got completely sidetracked with uni starting and forgot about the concert, Karnivool is generally awesome live, but good to see you enjoyed it.
After quite a few listens of the album now, 'Eidolon' is definitely up there as one of my most played. His voice really shines through. The song has a very 'Sound Awake' vibe to it.
SSICK, did they play 'Eidolon'? How was it?

I was just coming in here to say the same thing. IMO Eidolon is the standout track on the album.
Album as a whole isn't as good as Sound Awake, but SA is one of my favourite albums of all time, so I don't think this ever stood a chance. Having said that, it's a very solid album.

I don't like this as much as Sound Awake and Themata. It feels like the songs are all over the place. Sound Awake was fantastic, the songs all really connected to each other. Asymmetry not so much.

yeah don't know what I think of it as an album does have some good tracks on it... dont think its close to being as good as Sound Awake which is a very good album, Prefer the new Dead Letter Circus album that just came out.

I understand when people say it sounds like it's all over the place, but after hearing an interview with one of the guys and him going on about Asymmetry and their objectives for the album, everything. Starts to make sense.

I understand that if you weren't too into the new album then you might not like the fact that they played mostly new stuff at the gig. However since I'm a fan of the new album I liked that they played mostly new stuff.
You've gotta remember this is a tour to launch a new album –– mixing the new songs in evenly with old songs comes at later tours. (did love Cote though. god that song is epic).
OH shit and how good was launching into FADE when they had some tech problems? Ian's like "fuck it, Hoss's shit's broken... let's do it". Cue Fade. Meanwhile the techies are fixing stuff up.
As a drummer, massive fan of the band and big fan of Judd's beats, I couldn't pass up this skin signed by all of them which was on sale at the merch area. And a new T.
I plan on acquiring the artwork from their CD/shirt cover (green background, not black), screen printing it nice and big and then mounting the head on the left with the design in the background and to the right... like a widescreen 16x9 size. Should look mint.

Yeah sorry there's more.. since people have mixed reviews, here's my thought process:
I went into the album just wanting to discover it rather than expect, hope, and then be disappointed when it wasn't what I wanted. I've actually tried that method for a number of recent albums and it's been great.
For Asymmetry, I'm liking each song more and more; even the ones I initially didn't like or thought were weak I am finding things to like and appreciate.
I've just tried to pick my favourite few and can't do it! I'm liking each song for different reasons. I suppose if I really try, Aeons, Eidolon and Sky Machine are up there right now.
/end Vool rant.

Haha yeah I was standing next to the dude who started singing the intro to fade....was great how everyone around him joined in.
I realize they are launching the album but fuck.....to hear Roquefort live through that sound system would have been amazing.

Yesss. That's the same method I use for movies, as well. Talking about music again, hearing the odd song from a band I like, I usually get the album that the song is from and go from there and end up loving them more and then move onto their debut album and open my mind up to that. This method has worked for me so well and I'd say that late 2012 and all of 2013, I haven't lists ended to and loved, so much new music. Triple J plays a big role in that.
