Acceptable Levels of Knock?

Recently got my S-AFC II in and one thing it does is data logging, and holds peak values.
Now this is the first time I've been able to moniter the 'knock'.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance, as I have no idea what knock really is haha

Whats an acceptable peak level of knock?

Knock = Ping and this is not good if it really is knocking. But its tricky to set up on a safc. Get it checked

lol yeah I shat hard when I saw the peak figures:
Boost - 1.11 bar
Throttle - 77.4%
RPM - 5488
Knock - 165

But rang Ant, he said its not set up, and it isn't accurate at all lol

Yeh its nowhere near as accurate as power fc knock warning

Mines hit a max of 39; but usually 25-30 on a PFC.
Not sure if its anything to be concerned about for me.
I'd agree 165 isn't normal - it'd have to be auidable to the ear!

It definately doesn't sound like its pinging at all, and there is enough fuel in there to make sure it doesn't.
Must be a real dodgy reading.

my knock never goes above 10 with power fc :)

ant set my engine light to flash above 60, this is generally when u start getting worried... boogers hit about 160 and lost some piston rings i believe

How do you know what your knock goes to as i dont recall you having a hand controller you TIGHT ASS.........
Reason your knock light dosnt go off ne more is from over use and the globe has blown.

pinging isnt stoped by the amount of fuel u r suppling the engine rather the octane rating stops the pinging it self...the higher the octane rating the less risk of detionation..so im led to beleive..could be wrong

The knock value is indicative and needs to be treated as such. Every engine is different. The magic '60' that everyone keeps chucking up is simply the Apex pre-programmed knock indicator light threshold setting. It does not mean it is knocking, it just means the mechanical noise level has gone high enough to make the light come on.

Detonation can happen at lower numbers than that, but it can also not happen until much higher. Soooo many variables.

U need to make a note of what the car does most of the time, and use what you see as a reference only.

Also, the SAFC is only a load measuring device interface. It primarily effects fuel delivery, but the contrast is that 'leaning' it out via the controller advances the timing. On a car like the Soarer, you cant tweak the timing manually to offset this.

i only eva get to around 10 max on my safc in sr20...if your heater is on it or if it gets hot in summer it will knock in summer so keep it outta the sun as heat effects the actual unit...how do you get your boost up on it brockas??? i want to load a little more fuel in it....getting retune.

go to the menu
go to monitor
and make sure 'pressure' is selected.

I'm not sure if its on all of them, i got limited edition one (which i thought was just color change)

nissans have maf's that dont
