Hi all,
Looking for a cheap vehicle that has a decent towing capacity and is fitted with a towbar. Prefer licensed but not as long is it will pass the pits with minor work then I will consider it.
Also chasing a cheapish car trailer that is licensed or once again, licensable..
I only need these to do a one way trip across the Nullarbor to NSW.
They don't have to be the prettiest things going round but they have to be half decent mechanically...
If you know of anything then please send me a PM.
I need to get the remainder of my gear plus my Camaro across the country and this will be the cheapest option and i'll also then be responsible for the condition of my Camaro once it reaches the other end, not someone that I don't know and doesn't care about my car!!
Tell me what you have people ;) I will keep scouring Gumtree etc in the meantime..

Built to transport formula 500's which aren't very long, but quite tall and I have no idea on the condition and its unlicensed, but it may kill 2 birds with one stone?

5k for the trailer in the middle . All new brakes , bearings and light truck tyres are 80% tread , LED lights .. Would get the job done easy :)

Would prefer something with a tray back if possible.. Only looking to spend about $1500 if I can get away with it.. I have some decent leads already, it looks like the trailer is going to be the hardest thing to find at a decent price as i'm only looking at spending around $2500 on the trailer..
Otherwise a small truck with a flat bed could be the go and there are a few of those for the $4 to $5 mark on offer also.
I'm being a cheap skate I know, but I rekon it can be done considering I had a 92 V6 Pajero in good knick for $500 not long before I left WA...

Good luck even making it one way with what you're asking......Rego'd car trailer and avg car....surely you can get a decent container
to suit the car and a bit of gear for a cheaper option ? Inc packing the car so that it doesn't move !

To buy a container I'm looking at $2500 plus $2500 freight on the train plus $1400 delivery to my location. To hire one I'm looking at $4600 delivered to my door with 30 days hireage. I would also have to build a structure in the container to load other stuff as the car takes up the most of the length of a 20ft jobbie. Yes, I may be able to make my money back on the purchase of the container if i sell it.
To Ship the car i'm looking at $2000 minimum by itself and the last 3x cars I had shipped have all been damaged by the transporters and i'd prefer the responsibility myself. The car does have Laid Up cover if the worst would happen.
If I buy something cheap and get it across to NSW it will be sold for scrap value as getting a car rego'd over here is just rediculous and it wouldn't be worth it. The trailer is a different story, I'm expecting to pay more but would like to limit the costs somewhat as you can pick up brand new tandem car trailers over here for $3g's and in WA they are well above that even in average condition.
Just putting the feelers out cause you never know, there is always someone wanting to get rid of something at the right price, you just have to ask ;) I've learnt that from experience!
Being a mechanic by trade i'm pretty sure that I can get the right vehicle reliable enough to get me across and i've done the trip now more than a handful of times so i know what to expect.
Cheers

I was an RAC Breakdown Mechanic for 7 years funnily enough ;P
And yes, I still have full membership and have NEVER used it LOL
Why not just hire a 4by from Avis? Use most of the coin to buy the 5k trailer posted above.. Hand it back when you get to NSW..

None of the rental agencies allow one way interstate from WA unfortunatley... Already looked into that..
It looks like I may have a solution. A mate from Kal is purchasing a Tilt Tray from just South of Sydney so will be bringing one of my vehicles and my car trailer across on the back and then i'll fly over and load and drive back. Just waiting on the finer details...

Didn't end up utilising Deano's services after all. Although he was happy to oblige.
Flying over Tuesday week Scottie. All good for accommodation mate. Staying with the inlaws which is nice and close to the storage unit.
Ended up with a Triton 4x4 turbo diesel cab chassis and a fairly decent trailer to get everything back and all within my budget also ;)
