View Full Version : Big HP fuel pumps...

Been looking at fuel pumps to support a fair amount of HP(~900 fly), which quickly turns into a stupidly serious pump when you then want to use Methanol to make that same HP(900 turns into ~2000). Then a pump that size requires controllers .... then Methanol requires expensive filters etc
Any advice on using Aeromotive ? have heard rumors of shit-ness ??
Weldon ??
Other suggestions that are Methanol safe and able to flow stupid ?
...don`t want a belt drive !

Hahahaha, welcome to that club!
I got a 10 micron s/s mesh Moran fuel filter (which is recommended for the injectors you are considering to maintain the warranty) and I think that cost me near on $600 from a local source after shipping - you can also get the Moran injectors here (might save you some hassle importing them yourself?).

I'd go belt but if you stick with electric, magnafuel (I'm pretty sure Tocchi uses 2 of them on the Capri, hopefully he chimes in).

Mechanical all the way.
Avoid magnafuel electrics
Edit
The high hp magnafuel pumps should only be run for 20 mins before getting hot
They draw a heap of volts. At idle it's a lot, let alone at high rpm.
-10 inline filters (mf) are $70 each from summit I think

Its a street car....with efi !
I can`t(don`t) want to run mechanical.
So Magnafuel electrics are shit ? ....their website says they are the best, no speed controller even required !
hmmm
Slightly different project...simular needs;
Twin turbo LS3 on E85 ... what pump to use ? Injectors as well ?(<- also keep in mind the "extra" capacity required because I want to run return-less with no boost reference !)

Once you start running methanol, it's not really a street car......

+1 for mechanical, whateverthefuckpsi you want. What setup/car is going into dude?

they say their product is good on their website?
well ive got 2 magnafuel MP4703's (2500hp ones) broken on my garage floor that beg to differ :P
avoid. :P

Ive got a mangafuel protuner 625 and its perfect... Also know a few others similar pumps with no issues.
I find most pump failures are from install errors
If you're running this setup in an E85 street car, wouldn't a bank of 044s do the trick?

Simon that's considered a street pump, and can run more than half an hour :)
1500 rating is pump fuel, n/a and carby
Methanol, boost and efi cuts that value down dramatically
If he runs 2 of them, no issues, but again, the voltage issue, a well known issue.
But the 750 series seem to be limited to drag applications, but mrvhanic is the smarter approach to drag applications.

Can be done, I plan to run a staged 8 injector duel fuel set-up...
Actually I`m already running 8 injectors, 1000cc ID`s are primary feed of pump fuel system(original tank->surge->044 ->), secondary injectors are modified factory ~1100cc feed of a 20L cell, 044 returnless with reg and pump together on side of tank....VP109. Motec does the staging.... ~30% fuel volume of 109 squirted only when the table/tune brings it in, ~over 1.2bar and 4000rpm. Doesn`t use a drop of race unless you push it there. 3 maps in MoTec on a key switch in the console, switch on the fly.... Map1-550hp pure pump, Map2-VP109 pump turns on ~20% 575hp, Map3-623hp. That's the legacy Wagon EJ set-up.
The E85 set-up in question is the Torana build, 525hpLS3 GMPP crate, Twin 6262`s, E85 from RCI 83l cell, single ended/Returnless fuel system... planning fuel system now for 1200+hp...
If I play my cards right the pump, filters, reg, etc used on the Subaru to stomp racewars will slide nicely into the Torana .....Subaru would go back to cheapo pumps etc and E85/C16/whatever...
Simon - do you run any sort of speed control on the 625 ? What static pressure ? Boost ref ? Reg ? Max FP ?
I do have a suspicion the Pro tuner pumps are not suitable for Meth...have emailed Magnafuel waiting for reply.
Joe - I have pile of 044`s...but apparently thay are not liking E85....and they do work with methanol but die even quicker... and if you add up the non-returns and fittings and shit to make a bank of 4 044`s work together its more than a Weldon pump !
Beauty of duel fuel 98 & methanol staged is your motor gets pickled every time you slow down !!
