Hi everyone,

So I've got an MN Triton dual cab and keen to do a couple of very basic upgrades, so I can enjoy it more off-road without worrying about fucking it up too much.

Basically I'm after a rear bumper step and eventually some sliders/steps and a bull bar. Also some bash plates.

I like the MCC and TJM gear, although the TJM side steps don't suit side airbags (and the MCC ones do). ARB is nice, but it comes at a price.

Does anyone on Antilag have the hook up for any of this gear?

Cheers :D

I'm not that stupid ..

Are you talking about genuine Toyota parts? I've already got a genuine Mitsu parts hook up..

I'm talking aftermarket gear, and if someone can get TJM or MCC gear, it would be for any model I'd assume :P

thought about custom stuff? usually only takes them a few days to make and will be the same price, if not cheaper.

i priced up a set of sliders by a dude in baldivis (heyfab). they were $600, powdercoated and fitted. id imagine a rear bar wouldnt be a hell of alot more.

Rear bar i wouldnt worry about to much as all it will do is increase you overhang at the rear and get caught up on shit, Bigger offset wheels can help protect the 1/4 panels as the tyre will hit first but mainly sensible driving will stop you bending 1/4 panels.
Side steps wont do much to protect sills as they are generally ali so bend easy as fuck, a set of custom made rock sliders will protect the sills a lot better, but then u have to ask do you really need them. I bounced my GQ of some big rocks and in some deep ditches and never caved a sill panel in.
Bash plates: get some cardboard and scissors takes some measurements and work out what you want and what you want to protect, make some templates then hit up a laser cutting joint or a small sheet metal workshop and get them to make them. I'd put money on it cost a shitload less than name brand stuff.
Now with all the money you have saved you can buy a decent brand name bullbar, or if still wanting to save coin check out the Ironman range of bullbars or even the XROX they are all airbag compliant i believe.

Rear bar would be way more than sliders.. we're talking a lot more complexity, and I'd need a proper load rated hitch receiver (as I want to tow)... I don't think custom guys can do that. I will however ask the Hayfab guy mentioned below just to see whats available, you never know :)

Also custom sliders are a problem.. my vehicle has side airbags and not all sliders are compatible with them.

I need a tow bar to carry my MTB and also to tow on occasion, so that in itself would provide enough underside protection for the lower rear tub sill.

I was mainly thinking full rear bar because some brands (ARB, MCC, TJM) have the tubular guards that run down the sills.. they don't hang any lower than the spare tyre from what I can see. I'd definitely not consider any towbar or rear protection bars which sit below the OEM (GLX-R) rear step.. that thing is piss weak, My GLX came with one and 5 seconds into my 4wding at Wilbinga, a bit departure angle obliterated the corner covers straight off the bumper. Fitting a tow bar or the OEM protection bars below it, actually reduces departure angle so severely that it wouldn't be useable at all off road.

Again, won't be going custom rock sliders due to side airbags.. as far as I know, only the Xrox and ARB ones are ADR approved for side airbag use. The MCC ones apparently are but no one can confirm, and TJM ones are definitely not compatible with side airbags.

Bash plates.. for the money, I can't be fucked mucking around, I'll just spend a few hundred and buy off the shelf :P

I priced up a Hayman Reese towbar for my Hilux @ $550 installed but ended up getting the ARB rear step for $600. Apart from some holes not lining up perfectly, install should've only taken about 30mins.

Some people say the ARB step acts as a bit of a grater and kills departure angle but I haven't found it to be that bad.

Watching a mate take his Colorado through the Powerlines cemented in my mind why a rear step towbar is extremely important if you're doing more than beach work. He hits it often, but without it he wouldn't have a rear bar at all! Dual cabs don't have good departure like wagons do unfortunately. The factory step was broken before it had 2000km on it thanks to a huge sand dune in Wilbinga.

X-Rox bars are not ADR approved. They were at one stage, it was removed for whatever reason and they never really advertised that fact. One of the few mass produced bars made in Australia though.
