Sweet someone message me on facebook tonight and remind me to start the updates downloading, bring on the 90" projector love!!!
On another note, anyone know how much upload/download bandwidth the game needs? I only get around about 70kb/s during peak times (meant to be fixed 30/11/14) but upload is fine and ping is good

Looking forward to trying my new wheel.....
Still need to organise a seat for it.
Feck. No Limits have scheduled an event on Dec 11th since last time I looked.
I might drop the Civic round and move the Monaro and M3 weeks up the list.
OK so I've dropped one round so it doesn't clash with No Limits speed event and it still wraps up on the 18th December
For those that haven't already DOWNLOAD ANY GT6 UPDATES TONIGHT. If you haven't played for a while there will be gigs to install.

Have set up the wheel in front of the telly and bought a WRX wagon.
Also bought the spoon civic last night before the round was scratched!
After playing a lot of GTA5, my sense of handling in a car simulator is thoroughly screwed.
Will do some more laps tonight in training.
PS3 is now fixed IP, living dangerously in the DMZ.

Fucking pissed as, bought a G25 from Alex, set it up to try tonight, went for a leek and come back and the fucking pingpingpingping of a cat chewed the fucking fixed cable from the wheel to the PS3.

Well that was a bit of a fail (thanks for trying Mark, I know it's not your fault and do appreciate the effort you put in)
Is there anything we can do, it seems ludicrous that a game this popular can have such issues? Fuck, I had less issues playing Action Quake 2 in the 90's on dialup!!!
I ejected GT6, popped in nba and played a game in new York for 40 minutes without issue.

Ha! Least you weren't mid-race. Wasn't it you simon who's had a cat/dog walk by and pull the wheel cord out of the PS3 mid-race a couple of times? Epic rages.
You should be able to find another cable, Shaun?
This game does so many things right and so many things wrong - and the network issues have been there since day dot for Gran Turismo's online multiplayer. Still a joke. Grrrr.

it is the cable that is fixed to the back of the wheel. I am taking it next week to an electronics shop to see if they can repair it. As we are not sure if it is a propriety cable.
Trust the cat to choose the only cable that is fixed.

if we can manage to get everyone in a room again, maybe we should try getting people to jump on track one at a time, then we may be able to see who is causing issues if they don't appear on track?

Fuck, I hate it that NBN was at the end of the street then they stopped indefinitely and I get shit speeds over some of the oldest copper lines in Perth.....
Going to run new host on Thursday.
The plan
- Make sure PS3 static IP / DMZ setup is done.
- Send PSN friend request to 'lachy294'
- We'll try a mesh room first
- Failing that try a fixed host setup.
GT6 lobbies can be set up two different ways. Mesh and Fixed (star). The mesh model has every PS3 console connecting to every other. The Fixed model has every client just connecting to the host.
Mesh Pro's
- Lower ping (so smoother, higher quality racing)
- Only low bandwidth required
- If host disconnects, the room will migrate host automatically.
Fixed Host Pros's
- Much less console connections means much less chance for incompatibility between router hardware.
(Having the static IP/DMZ setup should actually eliminate this problem).
I assume when joining a mesh room your console requests from the host the ip addresses for all the other consoles in the room and attempts to make connections. Low bandwidth and error handling may be an issue if to too many are trying to connect simultaneously. So we'll try using lachy294 as host (cable 2.4mbps upload) using mesh first and if that's giving grief, revert to fixed host.

I'll update the original post removing the M3 round.

Isn't a fixed host the way that pretty much every other game uses (just they have a server being the fixed host?)
Can we run a seperate PS3 as a fixed host and control remotely? I could then set one up at work with 10up/10down on AMCOM fibre

Yeah remote controlling is the problem, but this is still very interesting to know.
GT5 had the ability for other players in the lobby to change the settings in Mesh (lounge) rooms only. GT6 doesn't even have that.

With a PSP you can get access to the base interface...But you can't launch a game from memory.
Used to use it to stream movies from PS3 to the handheld.

Can you download the newest update on PC and then USB to the PS3, 500mb is a stretch on my shitty connection at home during peak times
Nope.
You'll have to download the update, wait for it to install, load the game, wait for it to install again for some reason, reboot game, download another hotfix update, install hot fix, then realise you can't go online because there's a mandatory firmware update released yesterday too.
If you have PS+ though and auto updates turned on then they should have already downloaded and installed.
You can get the firmware on USB though:
http://au.playstation.com/ps3/support/system-software/detail/item679450/Update-features-%28ver-4-66%29/
OK so to try and avoid last week's connectivity issues Lachy294 is hosting this week as he has a much higher download/upload. We'll be running the WRX wagon again this week.
So if you want to race send PSN friend request to Lachy294
The first lobby will be run as a Mesh network type (non-fixed host) which provides the smoothest online play once connected.
If there are still issues then a Star network type (fixed host) room will be run. Much less complexity with this setup but host needs high upload / low ping for smooth online results.
A new GT6 update (~600MB) + install time
and PS3 firmware update (~120MB) + install time...
...was released yesterday. You obviously need to download and install this well before 8:30pm
The new update includes community features. Still figuring out 100% how it all works but I
ve created a club for managing future races.

Club ID: 1000650

Doesn't actually worry me. Have PS+ so it downloads patches and installs automatically. I don't understand why it has a secondary installation process once the game starts though.

Yeah was good to have it running smoothly again, and get some racing in!
My driving was terrible last night, wiped out the back end of a few punters by pushing too hard for the inside line!

I should be pissed off from the epic punts I copped last night but was just happy the game worked worked perfectly once we had Lachy hosting and changed to fixed host. Hopefully the game remains stable if we increase from 11 to the max 16 cars.
Messed about with the community stuff last night and I think the main useful feature is being able to create a Lobby from within the Club screen which will only allow Club members to join. So you won't need to be PSN friends with every person that hosts a race.

Emo post :)
High Speed Ring - Taken out in 2nd corner chaos... Straight to the back of the field
Motegi - After a semi suspect passing with elbows out by batmat settled into a comfortable 3rd, until my future wife decided to come home and start watching youtube, killing my connection and lagging me so bad I went flying across the track at massive speed... Straight to the back of the field. Special thanks to Franz who drove past me as my connection restored just in time to hear him laughing and asking what I was doing
Madrid - Someone tried to park up on the apex on turn 1 (I think I should be looking at Franz), had nowhere to go... Straight to the back of the field
at this point rage was off scale haha
Big Willow - Good race with Alex and batmat, elbows out a bit again for batmat but I did manage to punt Alex a little under brakes but redressed
Laguna - Was sitting pretty in 2nd, future father in law comes in for a chat distracting me and I nearly went from 2nd to 4th after overcooking last corner. Finished 2nd
Missed out on enduro as I was getting massive evils by fiance for being antisocial.
TLDR; Rage x 3 races, then good fun, then fun police killed my fun

High Speed Ring - wheel didn't work as my kids had kicked the power out of the wall so I sat on the line. Quit the race and watched.
Motegi - I've never been on this track so after about 5 offs I got to the end then gracefully bowed out.
I'll be back with some more seat time and track diversity under my belt :)
...ended up switching to GTAV and using guns.

I think you need to complete National B and A licenses to unlock online multiplayer and the fastest way to make cash is by doing seasonal events, in particular the ones that provide the car for you.
The multiplayer series I've been running only require the purchase of one particular car per night and they cannot be modified (except for wheels & paint). They are usually cheap to acquire (ie not millions)
Keep in mind if you have not played for a while then there are SHITLOAD of updates and patches to apply beforehand.
