The Golf is due new tyres, the ones on it have some tread left, but they are probably the originals (2010) and have gone a bit hard, they are Toyo Proxes T1r's.
I'm sure it's the age of them but taking off now with any decent sort of throttle results in wheel spin, and traction control makes it worse, so 1st and 2nd is useless, getting chopped by anything these days off the line, lol.
What's a good sticky tyre as close to to a semi as possible, was looking at the Nitto NT05r's, but they look like they have fuck all tread and apparently will kill me in the wet.
Have heard Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Sports Cup are good.
Also, who has the hook ups for 225/40/R18 's :)

Michelin pilots are decent.
But you can get kuhmo ku36 street legal semis for cheaper!

If you can wait buy off ebay from over east.
Ridiculously cheaper including freight, I personally never buy a tyre in perth!

I've bought a couple of sets from ozzy now.

you're right about the NT05 - they do look light-on when it comes to tread!
I've had KU31 on my Golf GT and they were great - they felt (grip, noise) as good as the OEM Continentals did.
225/40/18, right? plenty of opinions in here:

I've used Ozzy a few times, never had any issues and always found them to be the cheapest.
Yoko AD08R, they are a semi but have huge tread depth and will outdo anything else as an all round tyre

...but generally wear faster than a regular tyre, remember. If you don't mind that though..

Best tyre I've had on a boosted front wheel drive was Bridgestone Potenzas
As you pointed out they are particularly vulnerable in the wet and the potenzas were best for that

Pilot Sport Cup's are not safe in wet weather.
I have Potenza RE002'S on my Honda and think they're a bloody brilliant alrounder for a very good price.

ad08r's are fantastic, but of course wear out faster than a pure street tyre.
Continental sport contacts apparently the go for a street only car with decent grip
bang for buck federal 595 RSR

can't comment on FWD but RE002's go good on the evo. Not quite as good as the Direzza Z1 star specs they replaced but for ~$130 a tyre (at trade) they are fantastic bang for buck.

Friend also has re002's, loves them. Thats coming from federal rsr's
Majority of XR5 owners run either Michelin Pilotsport 3's, or Goodyear Assymetric 2's. Have run both, prefer the Michelins.

The girls Megane is running the Conti Force Contacts. Cannot fault them on the street, missus reports they are OK in the wet, but I haven't pushed them. Have been meaning to it for another run up at Barbs, but haven't had a chance yet.

AD08R's are still a street tyre, not a semi slick...
But still a great option for the golf.
The Dunlop Direzza II is also a great tyre - Kostera's should be able to do a good deal on these.

What ^ he said.
I run the Asym 2's. Good grip for a 'daily' tyre and, at this stage, looking to get around 50,000kms out of the set.

Are you still running std size 225's or changed to 235's?
Running 235. Not sure if the Golf crew have the option to move up a size.
