So after seeing a few more antilaggers out on the track yesterday - how did you go?
Very mixed bag of cars out there yesterday, plenty of N/A hondas with B series engine swaps going like stink out there.
Congrats to Matt James-Wallace for taking out the day in his rocket ship that was once a skyline.

First time at a sprint event. Was really good fun and lots of car variety.
Matt JW and I were trading times most of the afternoon until he pulled out of blinder which I only got within 1/2sec on my last run. I was happy with a 2nd place first time out. Might stuggle with some of the tighter stuff coming up.
Got some gopro footage which I'll upload tomorrow

Still fairly tight considering I only used 4th gear in one spot and I could have left it in 3rd with revs to spare. Some of the other tracks looks tighter so it will play into hands of the smaller 4wds

Harden up people. Bit of rain never hurt, and the place has so much run off, it must be about the safest place to track a car.
Mind you, I once aquaplaned off after the finish once and stopped about 1.5 car lengths away from the barriers at the Southern end.
Anyways, enough from me, who is not man enough to be competing in any case. May try and sneak down there for a quick look in the arvo. Though should be in shed getting car sorted.

Decided at 5pm the night before rain would be fun
Looked at my tyres - Bald from centre to inside on rears. Dont have windows. Wipers dont really do any wiping. Fronts had about 1mm left on them. Was dardy enough to head out
Very very hard to punt a car that normally relies on late braking and corner speed in the wet. Didn't put it in the dirt which was a win but the wind was picking it up and she just gets up on the standing water. I remember hitting limiter in 4th on the back straight, not long after changing to 4th.
Oh and i left my helmet upside down in the rain, twice, so got the soggy head.

Sensible
18-06-2015, 08:40 AM
Yeah mine has the same setup
I am looking at either a ratio change to the 2.9 for more top end as I am on the limiter coming down the hill at barbs or I can get a longer 5th and 6th for the Busa box
Just weighing up the cost , the gear from quaife is 500 quid but the tool to change the gear is also the same price, 5th and 6th change will cost about the same by the time I slit the cases to rebuild the gearbox

No need to worry Neil, Beau and myself got off topic and we're talking about Barbagallo long track for the SES
The way the regs are written for the MC events it excludes us from the event, I think it is to do with insurance for the way they run that the cars have to be road registered (real reason is to keep the GTR owners happy)😜

Pitty because your toy car would probably be very quick without any long straights :p

they changed it to road registerable (and mine kinda is as they make them with a compliance plate and it has lights indicator horn etc) so they accept my entry (but i don't think your qualifies unfortunately)
No i am not going RPE engines as they want drug money, i am getting all the gear from Hyabusa zone and having it built here

I can recommend Tony Flood to screw it together, he has built both mine and dads engines
We went through a few different bike guys and engines didn't last

I was only joking. The car sounds amazing on youtube so I was looking forward to hearing it screaming around in person.

Strong field in both AM and PM session so put a last-minute entry in. May as well kill of the old A050's before the new ones go on!
Should be cold but clear weather. Looking forward to it.

definitely one of the shortest and slowest layout on the calendar. Was in 4th gear for about twice... 1 second each time...
Didn't see your name Alex?

Yes it's one of the 'slower' courses but that'll keep the high HP boys at bay :)

Not a good day for me with a sheared driveshaft on the first run.
Congrats to Matt James-Wallace with the fastest run of the day.

Entered last minute, figured would just go have some fun.
Wrong way'ed my first run after too much hectic commit to the big sweeper across the skidpans
Did a 173 2nd go out - Was pleased with that as Joseph was doing those sorts of times in his civic in the morning session.
174 3rd go out some rubbis driving left my balls back in the tow truck
4th go put it in the drink and lawn after wayyyyy to much banzai entry into the skidpan sweeper - Top of third through there is not going to stop.
Killer day as usual, well done to MJW as usual, we had some gremlins testing on Friday which we overcome and he put down another solid result. We will have some more pace for the next one with a bit of luck.
EDIT - Sorry to hear about the swift N, looked almost like you were just peeling a tyre out of that corner then no more. Chris was saying you were going to pull the box out anyway?

That was very tight! Good fun but some shocking driving from me

Me neither, car went into limp mode twice in the first run so I packed it up and went home.

Great day. Couldn't match Matt/Simon in the dry, but still very happy to come 4th while still running the Continentals.
I'm looking forward to the next enduro round. Was pretty consistent over all 4 runs on Sunday:
2:53.0
2:52.2
2:51.9
2:51.6
Amazing that Matt's last time was a 2:46.5 though. That's just incredibly fast.

I thought I would post some video from round 5 of the Sprint Series today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzdW-iXALk8
Last round I broke a drive shaft on the first run and was out for the day. Scoring no points I dropped to fourth in the championship.
My first run was the second fastest of the day (up until that point) but still 3 seconds slower than a Birkin S3 (who took out the event today, way faster than anyone else). My second run was third fastest for the afternoon, and my third run was a nightmare. I couldnt remember how many laps I had done and had a momentary lapse of concentration resulting in an off. This gave me the slowest time plus 5 seconds. All runs counted today and that run cost me any championship points so I dropped from fourth to eighth outright. Has been a bad couple of months dropping to 8th, but I am still leading the class so thats ok.
Well done to Gary Thorne in the Birkin S3. He really knows how to get that thing around a track! Congrats to Simon Richards on a great second place and Jamie Lister coming in third and fastest in the morning session. A special mention to Matt James-Wallace on a great ninth place with only rear wheel drive and dropping a cylinder. There was a flurry of activity in the pits trying to solve the misfire but it got the better of everyone and couldnt be fixed.
Matt is leading the championship with Simon one point behind.

Aargh, forgot about this and ended up doing something stupid with my Sunday arvo, painting the house...
Did LOL at your 'coarse language and adult themes' moment there Neil! ifail won't let me watch Simon's lap yet. Thanks Mr Jobs. OK, seen it and it appears you do need some tyres! You going C70 soft or super soft time attack special Z221's at august SES? Just tried new c70 softs at Rallysprint and did like them!
Yep, Gary's Birkin is well sorted, to say the least.

Ok, I got a little bit of video as I was there a little early and the morning session ran a little late. I did have a better quality video camera but it was lost/stolen/misplaced or something. Sorry I couldn't get everyone.

Well done to Simon Richards, Gary Thorn and Will White. Well done also to Windows 10 (Joseph Hall) for a great finish in a car with no windows. Sympathies to Matt James-Wallace after a week of long hours trying to get the car sorted and a 6am start on race day at the Galvsport workshop with Josh finishing it off, only to have a tyre delaminate. Such a shame.
It looks a lot smoother in the car than it did from the outside Simon! Great car control mate. Almost in a world of hurt trying to back it into the garage on the second lap though lol
Luckily my clutch held up and thanks to Galvsport for expert assistance on the day.
Massive thanks to Andrew at Hyperdrive Motorsport in Malaga who was pulling his hair out all week trying to get my misfire and engine cutting out issues sorted from the last round. Poor guy was on the dyne until 7pm Friday night. Thats dedication for you! And that after pulling out the engine/gearbox, stripping the engine down and fixing the dropped valve in a week between events. He will be glad to see the back of me! lol Wait till I tell him it needs a clutch now lol

Does anybody here actually pull the handbrake for the cone?
2 reasons i didn't do that: firstly try to save some rear rubbers; secondly if i make a mess n point the wrong way, i will be looking like an idiot in front of all the spectators.

The final round of the 2015 Sprint Series at the RAC track was held today.
Well done to the outright series winner Simon Richards, second place Jamie Lister and Matt James Wallace in third spot. Congrats again to class winner Simon Richards and Matt James-Wallace in third (I think?). Also to Wes James who finished 5th outright and class winner.
Well done guys, some great driving.
