Course looks a bit dull compared to previous years?
Previous 2 years have been sort of fun if you like accelerating then slowing for chicane after chicane. Suited my car so guess I shouldn't whine. Best course was 3 years back when it went through the carpark down near the causeway. I was on the limiter in 4th coming back through the sweeper through the plain st lights. 215 km/h or so. And the carpark up there was fun too.
This year has less straight bits, true. But as someone famous and handy with the wheel once said, the straights are only there to connect the corners! So yeah, I think it'll be fun enough this year still.

Your car would have sounded awesome on the limiter in 4th! I try to stand along the drag strip at Motorplex to hear you coming down the return road, never disappoints.
Signed up and excited. White 07 sti.

I was going through the supp regs and CAMS Schedules A & B. I cant see anywhere that is says you must have two seats, or anywhere it saying you must have a first aid kit or two reflective safety triangles. I know this isnt Rallysprint but it is a part of Targa West so I thought these items would still be mandatory?

Pretty sure it is being run as a sprint event, not rallysprint type event. So just the normal stuff as required for supersprints and hillclimbs needed. No triangles, first aid, 2kg worth of fire extinguisher and deadweight (co-driver).

Edit: Yeah confirmed in 'Schedule H' of motorsport manual, need 2KG ext for road & blue triangle as per below
The regs:
All cars must:
(a) Be fitted with Seat Belts to AS E35 or of a type specifically approved for use by CAMS (refer Schedule I).
(b) Have a securely fitted fire extinguisher, which complies with AS 1841 (save that extinguishers which meetAS1841.2 are not permitted). The Chief Scrutineer will be paying special attention to mounting brackets forfire extinguishers. We recommend that competitors discard plastic brackets in favour of metal ones, whichshould be mounted in a suitable position and of a type and capacity as specified in Schedule H, of theCAMS Manual of Motor Sport. The fitment of an’ on board’ system approved for use by CAMS is anacceptable alternative.
(c) Having, on the external coachwork, a blue triangle of sides 150mm, this indicates the position of thebattery.

The supp regs said all cars must comply with schedule A and invited cars schedule B. Not sure what the difference is between a normal entry and an invited entry. I saw that about fire extinguishers (after I posted!) but I wasn't sure about the seats?
Edit: just read it better and section 2c of the sup reg says its a multiclub sprint event.
Correct me if im wrong but i thought it was a speed event as read in section 2a of the city sprint sup regs. Which means only a 1kg extinguisher is necassary?

I got confirmation today from the organisers. No need for two front seats, first aid kit or reflective triangles (as per Rallysprint).
Not sure on the extinguishers, i will have 2 x 1kg to be safe.
Can 100% confirm 1x 1kg extinguisher is fine as confirmed by organisers also. Guess he would have got a few emails today haha

Also weather is looking fantastic for this sunday.
Not a bad little event. Never really pushed hard on a set of cold tyres so was good to see how they reacted. That turn into the carpark had my nervous everytime haha.

Well, didn't have that good a day at the City Sprint. Car started running on 3 cylinders just after the first lap of the first run. I cruised to the end but the car wouldn't idle and had no power. Thanks to Matt Palmer from Auto Pro Canningvale, Matt James-Wallace, Rod Willis and everyone else who tried valiantly to try and get the car running. I got home and did a compression test, no compression in cylinder 2. I pulled off the rocker cover and it had spat out a shim from the top of the cam bucket and jammed the bucket in the head causing the valve to stay open.

I started pulling everything off as I had to work Monday, but come Tuesday I got the car towed to Hyperdrive. A big thanks to Andrew at Hyperdrive for getting the work done at such short notice. Now, to get to the cams, or the head, you have to drop the engine/gearbox/subframe assembly, separate the engine/gearbox from the subframe, split the engine and gearbox so you can get the sump off, once the sumo is off you can get the oil strainer out and then the timing cover off to access the chain tensioner. Then, you can remove the cams, and then the head!

Lucky for me, or unlucky depending on how you look at it, after tearing the front end off for the second time I decided I would bolt on the radiator/bumper/headlight support panel, rather than have it welded on again. This made it a lot easier for getting the engine out as I didn't have to lift the car off, just wheel it out. After some very long days and nights I got the car finished last night. I got home today and changed the oil and filter and found metal in the oil drain container and the filter.

So I am not out of the woods yet! Going to take the car for another drive tomorrow after work and pull the filter off again and have another look. Hopefully its clean and I can make the next round of the Sprint Series on Sunday. If there is still metal in there, maybe its game over.

What a bugger. I got there too late to see the morning sprint, so missed all this, though figured you had issues looking at results. Got more dedication to it all than me!
Sounds like you had enough of the motor apart that anything obviously wrong should have been picked up. Did you get the chance to look down the cylinder with a borescope? Lucky you valve didn't kiss the piston. It's just a stock motor still, under all the turbo extra bolt ons? May as well go race it and see if it lasts. If not, another wrecker donk I guess?
Not so swift
23-08-2015, 09:31 AM
Yeah, its a standard motor with the turbo bolted on. We looked down the cylinder with a borescope and there was a light mark on the piston but that might have been just pushing the valve back up before the bucket jammed. Seams to be sealing ok at the moment. I think I have spent more time repairing it than racing it at the moment.
Did a few drives and oil changes yesterday and it seems pretty clear now. In the rush to get it all done before the wifes Birthday dinner last night I forgot to tension the wheel nuts. Thought the diff was eating itself when I got home but was just loose nuts!! Need to get a sticker for the back window "Idiot On Board"
As for the Honda........yes. I should have bought one instead of a Swift. Especially when you guys are a couple of hundred kg lighter and can produce more power na than I can with a turbo!

I upload to youtube, then paste the "share" link into the insert video link in this page. Is there another way?
