Wanting some more power for the Prado, which is the best one to get?
Looking at a 3" exhaust also, although a few guys reckon removing the centre muffler is just as good?
OK Go !

ive bought and installed a 3" stainless exhaust on my 3Lt patrol from 4wd supacentre. made by berklee exhausts in ballarat so not the usual chinese gear that 4wd supacentre pedal. comes with dump pipe, 2 ports from sensors and all mufflers. fit like a standard one and is excellent quality. it isnt rediculously loud, infact if anything its as quiet as a stock exhaust which is what i wanted anyway. they have exhausts on their website for the prado, not sure what model yours is though.

I may or may not have 'cruised' between Tom Price and Paraburdoo in a very short period of time in a D4D Prado in order to catch a flight that I got to with 10 seconds to spare... they don't need more torque, they have effortless power at all speeds.

Focus on the shit suspension they have, and compliment it with tyres. Chip is not worth it unless you take it to GTurbo and go all out.

Give Clintarus at Reaper Customs a call
He's been playing chips, exhausts and dynos on a few cars and getting good results

i have the 4L petrol prado and my mate has the diesel
wow what a difference in the 2 cars... the petrol has alot more power and more torque and our average fuel usage was fairly close .
he has started the power mods exhaust and chip but still isnt happy .

From memory people have been getting good results with FConV with the 1KD motor.

More flexibility compared to a traditional diesel chip.

*Edit* Known as FCon D http://www.hksaustralia.com.au/component/content/article/40/151-hks-fcond-id-info

Like dattoman said, give Reaper Customs a call. Cameron and Clint know their stuff. I actually work there and have seen heaps of diesel cars go through there with very satisfied customers.

We do heaps of other performance upgrades too, depending on what you're looking to achieve and spend. Exhausts, Intercoolers, Chips..etc and we also do rims and tyres and are WA distributors for Superior Engineering as well for all suspension and other mods as well.

https://www.facebook.com/ReaperPerformanceDiesel is the diesel side of Reaper Customs, check them out on FB :)

This. Have taken one from West Angelas to Newman, averaged 150km/hr to just make the flight. They are awesome.

Wat?

If any car ever needed more power/torque it's a d4d prado, they're fucking terrible stock.

Tune made dads one so much better.

Talk to allstar sean, he just put a fully tuneable system in his 200, might be expensive tho

Thankyou !

It's not like I am new to the D4D, I have a Hilux for work, not entirely woeful, but would clearly benefit from a bit of power/torque upgrade.
Have done some reading on a few forums, Guys are getting good results from the Steinbauer setup with 3" exhaust, will keep looking, will also drop into Reaper.

Also, Sif we weren't going to put new suspension in it !

have a landrover discovery 4, with a 3litre twin turbo diesel, standard 183kw and 600nm.
I have a new twin zorts, air intake and reflashed the ecu, (roo system from Queensland) its a better way to go than a chip
and yes it gets that 2.5tonne up and goes hard and grunt galore, pulls a car trailer up Greenmount like piss.

Yeah they are doing a a deal at the moment with an exhaust for under 2k.
Interesting.

Don't waist time with chips, I have a HKS Fcon ID fitted to my 2010 hilux and its fully programmable.
I've also fitted 3 inch exhaust and a shift kit to the auto. PM if you'd like more info.

Still got the pathy for now.
But yeah, be keen to head out when you're back.

Don't want to go too hard mod wise on this power wise, a chip and exhaust will do fine.
Suspension also.
It's going to be a family car.

Ended up with the Chip Box unit plus the pedal booster unit, holy fuck, it's like a whole new car, plus it's also retunable, good news is that they use All Star for the tuning.
Just waiting for the 3" exhaust now and Snorkel next week, then sorted :)

I think the pedal box by them and the chip was $1500 at Auto one in Rocko, cheaper online, but it was right there and I had the cash :P

The guy and girl there have the Prado and the D4D hilux, both are chipped etc, with dyno sheets, some very good gains at the wheels :)

Already in the 7's for economy compared to the usual 9's around town.

How does this chipbox work? Is it a fuel rail pressure type chip, or does it also plug into the injectors?

Fuel rail and boost sensor.

read some scary stories of injector failures on the D4D under normal use let alone boosting the rail pressure

A lot of those companies went broke too. "Chip it". Being the latest.
Something about temperatures getting too hot and melting bits... Something like that ...

Earlier models of the D4D had injector issues, was sorted by 2010/11.

I've heard horror stories on every motor ever modified, better not buy one...

My torque app on the stereo assures me everything is fine temp wise, the exhaust will help even more so.
Then it will be tuned by Sean, only issues I've heard from later model d4d's is over boosting destroying turbo's.

Torque is only available on ANDROID and you need the ELM427 OBD2 Bluetooth module... Can be had cheap on eBay..

Use the standard layout, or customise your own..

If you have and iPhone, you'll need the WIFI VERSION of the ELM427.. Bluetooth ones don't work on the iOS platforms.. You can then get OBD Fusion from the APP STORE.. It's about $5 from memory.. Lots less data available though....

Sweet... ios can ead... I've always used android.

Will look into this tonight on nightshift. I have no intention of tuning mine atm but would love to be able to properly moniter the motor especially if i can do it without fitting aftermarket guages etc.

You can get WiFi dongles too. I've tried two different Bluetooth ones and couldn't get them to work, couple of mates have WiFi versions and work perfectly.
