Hi Guys,

Recently put in a new set of QFM A1RM pads and RDA rotors in the front of my s13 (running the 280mm nissan 4 pot calipers)

Took it to a tuning session at RAC on the weekend where they performed great, however the next day I found that under braking the steering wheel now shakes and the rotors are pretty scored up. Pads and Rotors were like a week old, calipers were just rebuilt.

I guess the rotors are slightly warped and need a machine. However I want to try and avoid this happening again (dont want to machine the rotors after every track session)

Is this just due to crappy rotors?

If so what rotors do you guys recommend?

Heard DBA 4000 series were good but apparently they are now not made in Australia and are not that great anymore...

From what I've heard the RDA's aren't a fan of track work and high temperatures on a regular basis.

DBA's seem to perform well or PMU rotors

My mate was running the same rotors but had PMU pads. They seem to go well ey.

On my s13 I have run oem/rda/hfm rotors on qfm pads and they all worked well for one or two sessions.. then same result... rotors gave up.

Bit the bullet and went Pmu rotors and pads all round.. admittedly havent done alot of work on them but they have already outlasted those previous combos.. and stopping power is great.

what spec of PMU rotors and pads did you run? saw that there are a few options available at the PMU website....

RCR pro fr/RCR r. HC800 pads all round.
Bart from southwest brakes sorted them all out for me at a good price.

Came here to post Mazda - they make a pretty good rotor. My drag car has 2 of them. Piece of shit doesn't run, but that's not the rotors fault......

Have you considered maybe a 2 piece rotor (DBA 5000 / SCR Pro) - you could then run a track rotor and street one? No idea if this is a viable option in reality, but sounds awesome in my head.

The cost of a two piece rotor is getting towards an evo brembo brake kit (popular on s chassis)

If I was more attached to the car and was planning for more power I would prob head in that direction, but the plan was to get some track XP under my belt in the s13 then move onto something like an FD or Evo in 12 -18 months. Given I also need a better seat (currently head hits the roof and I'm falling out around corners in my factory s14 seats) I didn't want to sink too much coin into a car that I will be moving on soon.

Really all I want is current braking power with rotors that wont warp.

On my s14 Ive got two piece pmu rotors as well as R32 gtr calipers havent had a problem its not cheap tho.

On the old s13 I was running genuine nissan rotors that were god knows how old and had been skimmed. They lasted 3 or 4 collie days without a problem. Pads escape me atm but weren't that expensive/amazing. There are rotors and there are rotors. Good quality stuff will take more abuse then the cheap stuff. Shouldnt need to do big brake upgrade or go to 2 piece just get quality rotors.

Thread bump, dalspec hooked me up with a set of dba4000 series rotors which have done well and lasted 4 track events.

Now have a bit of shudder and want to get them skimmed. Any places around the morley area you guys can reccommend?
