Entry forms and car regs are up, come down to Manji and have some fun.

They've opened Extreme up to 37s + twin locked this year, modifieds are still 33s and single locked, but beware of the Suzuki brigade !

We're doing our entry, slightly modified tracks this time, but from what we've been told still good for the SWB and smaller cars.

That's very cool!

Pete
14-04-2016, 04:58 PM
Was very fun last year, such a relaxed atmosphere with even the top extreme guys came and talked to us modified guys.

Plus the prizes are huge, we won modified category plus 2 stages. We should be better this year now we actually have more then 1/2 steering lock, better rear locker and changed tyres. Plus we know the car well ( was finished a week beforehand) so it's been proven.

Can't wait!

So what's the go with soft tops like Suzukis and Heeps? Said something about fibreglass roofs were not allowed in the regs I think?

Pete
15-04-2016, 12:21 PM
We have a sheet of 5mm ally speed sign as our roof, all passed regs. Also have a simple half cage for the rear. The jeep that won it last year had a hard top on it.

21-05-2016, 06:45 PM
I'm a little worried about the lack of a locker honestly...

Pete
21-05-2016, 06:53 PM
Uh we're 10 in modified, team Mighty Mouse.

Hmm, no locker at all ? should be interesting, especially in the mud to wall climb, we ran a welded diff last year and only 1/2 turning lock on our steering due to pitman arm failure, this year running full lock woith a spartan locker in the rear, helped push us up that hill.

night run in the middle of the speedway is great fun too. Make sure you come say hi, it's a bright yellow short wheelbase Sierra.

Dearlove
21-05-2016, 07:06 PM
Yeah im thinking of welding or spool, I got a verbal quote of $900 for a start of the range locker/Truetrac plus full day install (another ~$8-900?). They Dana diffs, so nothing special about them

Lukey
21-05-2016, 08:24 PM
fuck that get the welder out YOLO

Pete
22-05-2016, 04:15 AM
Agree, after what we went through last year, and being June this year I'd be welding the rear, even if you need to find a spare diff afterwards, being a Dana should be able to flog one from a jeep? Lsd by itself would possibly not be enough either unless it's completely tight.

We watched twin locked cars fail on the same section that single locked suzukis were just making it up.

I have a spare / running p38a range rover if anyones keen to do something silly.
4.6.. could be a weapon if it lost a 1000kg or so

Pete
26-05-2016, 09:21 AM
Possibly by late now, think scrutineering for Perth guys is this Saturday, and we've got it during the week, only got the car running last night, still has shafts etc to be bolted in. We'll be on a deadline to even test the car beforehand

Niva
26-05-2016, 11:11 AM
Yep missed out.

Anyone wanna have a tug of war at the mud pit. Byo snags.

Pete
26-05-2016, 04:08 PM
Hopefully if this one goes well again, they'll plan for another in November like last time, and we'll have the other car ready and setup. Just got to get it regoe'd first.

Pete
30-05-2016, 06:14 PM
So cars running, been out to the car wash and gave it a clean, will go for a quick easy run the bush near here just to check FPRs and boost level while in 4wd lo etc, and how it reacts, and get used to this clunking locker.

Hope everyone passed scrutineering, we're having ours this week down here.

Lukey
30-05-2016, 08:12 PM
Yeah pissed it in, we just need to change the front recovery points on the patrol

Went out for a bit of a shakedown run up power lines afterwards, took both cars and my v8 cruiser
Definitely need some sliders on the zook and the cruiserthe.
Only damage was the compressor on the patrol died after filling up its last tyre which we'll need to fix to keep the lockers happening and minced a side step on the cruiser (no sill damage though)

Really happy with all the cars and after I get my tax done will get tyres and sliders done and start entering the cruiser.

Pete
31-05-2016, 04:45 AM
Sliders are the best thing we did to our car, also lifting the transfer case so high up under the car we've now got a full underbody 5mm thick bash guard that covers box/transfer/output shafts.

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h162/rexhunta/sierra%20opposite%20lock_zpsircl6xfh.jpg

just see the slider in that pic, but helped us save that panel that day, if they run this course again, hopefully we won't be the last through and have all the logs dislodged and fucked up.

Pete
19-06-2016, 04:48 PM
We're completely ready. Cars pretty dialled, new tyres on ( Silverstone mt-117 xtremes ), we've given full test runs and haven't put a rod out. Only need to get the new bump stops on during the week for the fronts.

Packing spare box, transfer, front and rear axles into a crate tomorrow night, and then give it a quick clean for 2nd scrutineering on Sat. We're heading down pretty early on friday this time, not leaving it as late as we did last year.

Hoping they got permission for drum fires 'cause it's going to be fucking cold.

Lukey
19-06-2016, 07:23 PM
More or less the same boat here.

Probably heading out from perth around 12ish.
My old man lives in Manji so will be staying with him.
Infinity gas hot water for showers, sauna in the garage to have a relaxing cook and slow combustion fire in the living room.
Add that to the electric blankets on the beds and the closed in cab of the patrol, it's shaping up as a pretty comfortable weekend hahhahaha

Pete
26-06-2016, 06:25 PM
Cheers for the good weekend guys, Musso was doing well ! We've came away unscathed it looks like, car took a few good hits but sliders/bars/plates stopped all the hits. Engine held up fine and seemed to like the turbo, tyres were insanely good choice.

Not looking forward to tomorrow cleaning the thing though.

Lukey
26-06-2016, 09:40 PM
We took the cars down to heartbreak trail and washed heaps of the mud away with brooms in the river crossing.
Water was icy cold to the point it was painful until feet went numb, cars were decently clean after though hahahaha
Pretty solid adventure getting into the crossing past 1.2m diameter tree that fell across the track, would've been handy to have one of those comp trucks to pull us through.

Pete
27-06-2016, 05:17 AM
We used the pump down at the dam to wash the majority, then I'll just pressure clean today. Have anymore problems yesterday after the driveshaft?

Lukey
27-06-2016, 06:03 AM
Patrol spat a CV Saturday arvo. Proper fucked too sheered all the splines of the inner axle an lunched the bearing race in the back of the birfield.
Found a spare in Bunbury so had it fixed for Sunday.
Another thing we found was the zook had the wrong spacer in the front driveshaft which is why it kept falling out haha.

We saw the line up for that pump and we cbf waiting so just headed off.

Pretty keen for next time too, plans are in the works for full belly plate and new driveshafts on the zook.
Patrol is couple of suspension tweaks and get a decent collection of spares to bring next time.

Pete
27-06-2016, 06:18 AM
We lifted our transfer and box up and run a 5mm mild steel plate pretty much from front of gearbox to back of transfer case. We always get hooked on that log roll over this time did everything we could to stop getting caught.

We took out a few stages and launched the car pretty hard this time, but we got a good result and it stayed together so we're happy.

27-06-2016, 10:02 AM
Was an awesome weekend and although i probably got the wooden spoon I'll be there next time with pretty much the same car, just going to get sliders and front bar since my front bumper i no more. Any one have any photo's?

Dearlove
27-06-2016, 10:10 AM
and i just saw you guys won modified. well done!

Pete
27-06-2016, 04:09 PM
Thanks ! We won Modified again and Mudlust won Extreme and outright again this year. Also took out the mudrun for the 2nd year in a row, and we even did it with a popped intercooler house banging on the limp mode limiter lol.

There's been a heap of photos coming up on my FB, ruff road media have put the night stage up on youtube if you do a quick search.

If I see any in my travels i'll post them up for you.

Another rule change has put my Jeep out. Trying to make the field more 'even' by banning off the shelf products is not good. Make the tracks harder for SWB cars.

We've entered anyway in the LS Jeep, so see whoever is coming down.

SPECTATOR INFO
- Directions: Heading south on South West Hwy turn right onto Newlands rd. At the end turn right onto Ryall Rd. A short way down on your left there is road signposted as Boronia Rd, there is a wooden sign at the intersection with the name 'The Lazy G' on it. Turn left and go down that road through the gateway and up to the entrance into the spectator area.
- Gates will be open at 9am on both days, the comp will start at 10am and finish by 5pm. The gates to the property will close shortly after the competition has finished for the day.
- This is an ALCOHOL FREE EVENT, vehicles will be getting checked at the gate and you will need to hand over any alcohol found if you wish to enter the property.
- Access to the remote spectator parking is by 4wd only. You must engage 4wd and be in low range once you leave the entrance gate. Please note this area may need to be closed on the day due to poor weather and the track getting too chewed up.
- Access to the spectator camping and spectator parking near the entrance is 2wd friendly.
- Day passes are available for purchase at the gate on the day for $20 per person 10 yrs or older per day, anyone under 10 is free all weekend.
- There is a 5kph speed limit at all times whilst on the property.
- The competition vehicles will be required to travel through the spectator area at various spots to get from stage to stage. We urge all spectators to take care and be mindful of the traffic and to let the cars through as quickly as possible, the quicker the cars can get to their next stage the more smoothly the day will run.
- The track through the competition area is a bush track and as such appropriate foot wear is required at all times.
- Fire bins are permitted for campers, but they must be fully self-contained and extinguished over night. There must be no open fires on the ground. Bring your own firewood and take away your bin at the end of your stay.
- Bins will be provided but for the campers please bring bin bags with you to bag your rubbish up before placing it in the bins as it will make disposal a lot easier.
- There will be food vans on site.
- There will be toilets available but no showers for any of the campers.

so why did today get cancelled?

Pete
24-09-2017, 11:30 AM
1: Weather for this afternoon.
2: Tracks where already chewed, 1 track was never finished by any of the 50 cars. The place was a mess, impassible on certain sections for anyone, even the comp buggies who were doing recoveries. We recovered ourself 5-6 times cause they couldnt get the recovery car into place. And we recovered another car for the same reason.
3 : a certain teams pit crew 2wd the pit access road sideways in front of the owner, destroying the access track. And then doing it twice more and then having their comp car do it too..

They had already said 4wd lo and 2nd gear crawl. Having a a certain car on 37" treps destroying the access road, in which POP will have to now pay to be relaid before the Mudfest in 4 weeks time. The owner of the property is absolutely pissed, and future events there at this stage are canned.

Lukey
24-09-2017, 12:55 PM
cant do much about the weather, and tracks getting chopped up is understandable.

but fuck me, how hard is it to just drive with a bit of care on the access roads, especially when you're running treps, and with the amount of rain coming down.
so annoying that deadshit pingpingpingpings like this can't follow simple instructions like 4lo 2nd gear.

sucks that POP having to pay for the road, and sucks that the owner at kirup probably won't agree to hosting another comp.
all adds up to sucks to be us

100% correct. If they say keep to this keep to that, just fucking do it. Both access tracks got chopped, at the drivers briefing yesterday morning they explained " a car just about came off and ended up in the dam at the bottom of the hill". that was just doing reconnaissance and setting courses up.

There's a lot of back and forth already going on FB, shall be an interesting few days. Wish it was back at Manji though, i love that setup for D2D. This is more of Rocks n Ruts racing. We broke the car 1 track from finishing yesterday so we weren't competing today anyway.

Pete

And now all future events are canned completely.

For those that arent aware Perth Offroad Promotions wishes to regretably inform everyone that we currently have no plans to run any events next year, which means neither the Rocks & Ruts Series or the Driven to Drive Challenge will run. Due to our ever increasing work and family commitments meaning we have less and less time to devote to the increasing demands of the comps, so the decision has been made to take a break for now.
We have had an absolute blast running these comps and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us out, especially all the volunteers and the new friends we have made along the way. A massive thank you also goes out to all the awesome sponsors who got behind us and supported us right from the very first comp back in 2013, we couldnt have done it without you 👍
So it's goodbye from us for now, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for the comp scene in WA.
