Afternoon all,

Chasing some advice from those in the know regarding PC monitors. I've been absorbing copious amounts of pros/cons and stats/specs from various Google searches. Currently running a GTX 970 GPU so it should handle any monitor combo I eventually buy.

Used for: 30% Gaming, 30% Work, 30% Internet browsing and 10% video/image editing
Budget: $800

Cant really decide on going dual 25-27" monitors or a single 21:9 ratio monitor? Anyone made the switch or currently using a 21:9? Thoughts advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a single Samsung 34" curved panel. Absolutely love it! Immersive gaming and everything looks incredible. Can run two inputs at once (side by side). Also the stand has raise/lower & tilt functionality to get that optimum viewing angle.

21:9 aspect ratio, Ultra WQHD 3440 x 1440 resolution, 4ms GTG response time, 2x HDMI, DisplayPort, 3000:1 Static Contrast Ratio, VESA 100mm support, integrated speakers and 16.7 million display colours.

If you can get one around the $800 mark it would be an absolute bargain. Keep an eye out, it's worth it. ~$1100 mark. I sometimes run a 2nd Samsung 27" flat panel for super work mode.

at $800 you could squeeze out a 29" 2560x1080 ultra wide (NOT QHD 3440X1440) but the density of the screen is going to be really low. Low PPI. The immersion and FOV is great with these monitors, just when watching youtube videos or similar if not filmed in 21:9 you will get the black bars on either side.

Do you def want to go either a ultrawide or a dual screen? Single regular 16"9 not an option? if it is.....

for $800 you could pick up a regular 27"/28" 144hz gysnc 1080p monitor or a 4k gsync 28" monitor like the acer predator xb281hk or a little more will get you an IPS 1440p 144hz gsync monitor.

You may also want to consider the whole TN vs IPS vs VA panel types.

That samsung looks awesome! It's a VA panel which is meant to be in-between a TN and IPS.

Also this keeps popping up on my fb feed (IPS panel QHD):

I can't recommend this, but looks like a nice size in a good price range $729
34" ultrawide IPS (Flat - not curved) and only 1080p

Great feedback mate and im never entirely certain until the product is in my hands. AOC's Q3277PQU was an option for a bit but I haven't seen any solid split screen information about it without the use of specific software whereas the 21:9 seem to have it incorporated. Perhaps im blinded by the beauty of a 21:9 screen though.

freesync and gsync... This is something ive avoided understanding to date. freesync (AMD) and gsync (NVidia)? Im not really sure how this is beneficial. FPS or refresh rate?

That’s where Nvidia’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync technology comes in. They both do the same basic thing: they allow a high refresh rate monitor to sync its refresh rate to the output of your graphics card rather than operate at a static frequency like 60 Hz. This keeps our games running nice and smooth, and it’s why a 144 Hz G-Sync monitor is currently our pick for the best gaming monitor around.

Consider how close you are sitting to the monitor when picking a size, Due to my desk i have to sit fairly close and my new 27" is borderline too big.

HDR monitors will be starting to be released later this year. Samsung (I think) just announced an ultrawide HDR monitor

picked up an Asus MX27UQ for photo editing, 27" 4k goodness.
Little bit cool by default but really nice after calibration
