DIY window tinting

Ok, so who’s done it, it’s going on our bunky Toyota echo, it cost us 500 bucks, so I’m not getting a professional job worth more than the car!
Was just thinking of a getting a few eBay rolls of 20% and doing it myself, the tutorials online don’t make it look like rocket science.

I did my subaru liberty, wasnt hard at all for a 1/2 reasonable job - used a bit more film than i though tho as I fucked up at least one window

I've done it with a mate and his mate - who used to do it professionally). Very simple once you get the idea, although he spent a little time on the back window due it the compound curves. Our biggest 'ah-ha' moment was simply removing all the trim and window seals rather than trying to poke the film in under it all. Second was using Scotch-Brite immediately before applying the film as it picks up all the last bits of dust & lint rather than just moving it around.

A good quality squeegee goes a long way - it wont mark the film assuming lots of soapy water is used. My mate and I didn't even bother trying the back window due to the compound curves. Ol' mate just took his time with a hair dryer and worked on one bubble at a time until it was all flat. I think I remember him 'chasing' the bubble back from the edges - he'd warm the film up where it had bubbled, all of a sudden the bubble would expand back towards the centre of the window, he'd follow it with the hair dryer until it slowed/stopped, then he'd quickly use the squeegee and push from the tip of the bubble back to the edge. Most took one shot, a few took a few reheats.

Well I had a go, thank fuck it’s the bunky that’ll never do more than 10km from home and gets left running at the shops, because I have zero patience, after the first wrinkle I went into Fuck It mode and just smashed it on, I’m bad at it, it looks junk, but the car is noticeably cooler, and up here that’s worth the shot job alone :)
