With Covid19 causing pretty much all sports to take a break for 2020 we have seen the rise of simracing as a serious contender to fill in TV slots and get drivers attention. Not only that but many series and drivers have their own youtube and twitch streams.
I'm still at work and under the pump with constant meetings about the said shit storm that's going on globally but I am going to try and keep this thread updated and this first post as well with links to the major series that are popping up, news, schedules for the races, links to streamers/feeds etc..

SVG is very active in the simracing community so he has plenty of experience with iRacing and will have his rig dialed in.

Races tend to be on around 3am our time so makes it a ball ache to watch live.. but some good racing to have on in the background during the day.

Pretty sure it will run on an old 486...

But the serious answer is..

Minimum Requirements
OS: Win 7 64.
Processor: Intel Core i3-530 2.9GHz / AMD FX-4100.
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6850 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280.
VRAM: 1GB.
System Memory: 8 GB RAM.
Storage: 10 GB Hard drive space.
DirectX 10 Compatible Graphics Card.

Obviously the better your hardware the quicker it will run and the better FPS you'll have.. detail settings can be tweak a lot though to improve performance... CPU can be critical though because if that gets pushed too hard you'll have drop outs or the screen can go black etc which is never fun mid race.

Internet: just a decent broadband connection will do. I used to race on ADSL without a hitch back in the day.. servers are all over the place some in USA, some in Aus (depending how many aussies are driving at the time), Europe etc.

The important part.. controls! Keyboards are out.. no dice.. no.
Some folks race using an xbox controller but what you really want is a steering wheel setup.. this becomes a how long is a piece of string question.. I'm using an old Logitech G27 and just recently paired it with Fanatec Clubsport pedals but there's some incredibly quick folks using just a Driving force GT which is about the most logitech there is.

I have both copies of The Hunter (the original subscription based 1 and Call of the wild). Very relaxing stuff to just hike around and then stalk prey.. especially the original/old version as animals were more challenging/harder to come by.

“He put me on an awesome strategy. It’s a bit better than me last week, I was playing with the fuel myself, trying to remember the numbers as I was driving, so it was a bit easier this week.”

Diuguid and McLaughlin’s conversation was broadcast over his Twitch feed, giving viewers insight into how the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 winner operates during a race.

McLaughlin finished fourth in the opening race of the series at Watkins Glen a week ago running without an engineer assisting him.

From Diuguid he received a steady stream of information regarding his direct rivals and track conditions, while also running the strategy.

“We had to make some time in the first stop,” McLaughlin told his Twitch feed.

“When we came in earlier, that was our plan from the start, was always a two-stopper, so I’m glad that we stuck by it.

“We did a practice race yesterday and it was, like, better with new tyres. I was able to pass easier. I think that was awesome.”

However, the race wasn’t without its nervous moments, key among them a Lap 19 restart for a competition caution that flew on Lap 15, just two laps after McLaughlin’s first stop.

“It was crazy. I was particularly nervous at the Safety Car restart, the first one after the caution,” he told the broadcast.

“I had new tyres but a lot of people didn’t in front.

“We got a pretty good restart there and it was a bit (of) chaos.

“The biggest thing as well was lapped traffic, you know, getting blocked by lapped traffic and I think that enabled us to get that jump in the pits because I was in clear air for a long time where others were.

“So, like I said, credit to Jonathan and his strategy, he put me out in front and put me in some clear air, and I was able to just bang lap times out lap after lap which was awesome.”

tbh I feel for Larson, he said something stupid and is getting reamed hard for it.. hes' apologised and from most reports he's not that bad a guy but of course the internet has to see everything in black and white.. omg he said nigger so he must be racist! rather than just "he said a word he shouldn't have and stuffed up".
It might turn out ok for him in the end as he's not a bad driver so someone may pick him up and give him that second chance. Ganassi could have handled it better as well which would have softened the blow.

As for the 1050ti, it's a fantastic graphics card for the $, PLE, MSY, Pccasegear, Scorptech might be the usual go to's. I've bought stacks through PCCasegear so they're my recommendation:

Supercars again tonight this time with wildcard entries of Marcos Ambrose and Alexander Rossi (Indycar and Indy500 winer) and Joey Logano (Nascar Pro) racing at Montreal and Watkins Glen.

Ambrose is an old hand at iracing although I don't think he's been active in recent years. When he made the transition to Nascar he used it as a way to learn some of the tracks which paid off with several wins at the glen.

Me personally I've been smashing out laps in the Skip at Spa with a few mates and rebuilt my safty rating and license with a few podiums and a lot of top 5 finishes.

This week is Brands Hatch so will look into turning more laps later this week there as well as jumping back into the IMSA Sportscar series.

As an aside, those who are iracing and want to get into the Supercars, OSR runs an excellent development series.. season 29 has just finished but Season 30 will most likely kick off in 2 weeks.

Not sure how many people here have actually decided to get into it but can say I've been loving the increased amount of folks.. hopefully the subscriptions stay active once this blows over as more members means more funds for them to add more content.
