Application permits for guns went up just under 50% or something after that Batman shooting. It is completely backwards IMO but I've worked with a few Americans (namely Texans) who absolutely insisted that the more guns everyone has the safer everyone will be.
That cop had some patience, more patience than most. They seem lucky to get off the way that they did.

Its great! and a good idea! been numerous occasions where a Lisenced carry civillian has ended a rampage ect and saved lives, some counties in the states (texas somewhere i believe) firearm ownership is mandatory and crime is near NIL as the fuckheads in the community realise the risk of getting shot if they act up.

He's on the money. The town of Virgin in Utah and Kennesaw in Georgia requires the home owner to own a firearm. The mentally ill and convicted felons are prohibited though. Kennesaw has the lowest crime rate in Georgia.
Open carry laws are just silly, but I'd like to see concealed carry introduced in Australia along with US-style castle doctrine protections.
