    Bj74 landcruiser advice

Looking at importing a 1988 BJ74 mwb landcruiser.

Anyone had any experience with them?

From what I've read the 13bt engine is pretty bullet proof and the drive line is sturdy, the only small issue i have found is that they are 24v elec system.

It would be used for putting around town with occasional camping, beach work.

Electrical wise, practically every accessory these days is either suitable for 12/24v or there is the same product in 24v, thanks to the mining/agriculture industry. So it shouldn't be a problem, curious to hear some answers as I love a tough little swb, I was looking at the GQ's the other day, I don't really need a wagon.

A mate had a stock one for years and was bulletproof inside and out, took it everywhere and never left him stranded in difficult terrain or with a break down.
He used a redarc system to sort 12/24v issue.

There's two BJ74s on Gumtree in WA right now for around the $8k mark, though they look like SWBs.

The mandurah seller on gumtree has gone awol so i cant get any info or a viewing.

Im only looking for an auto, and dark coloured (grey, black or a goldie colour) so that limits whats available.

from what i have read the PTO winch can be an issue if it hasnt been used.

Any reason why ur going an old import 4wd, for what you want there is plenty of locally available and ur not gonna have issues finding parts.

To be honest I just like the look of them. The original idea was to get a 80s merc G Wagon, but the prices being asked for them are outrageous. Also, resale on these old cruisers seems to be pretty good.

From the reading I have been doing so far other than rust in snow cars, there seems to be few problems with the diesel 70s.

Had the same idea a few months back (and honestly, I'm still contemplating it, as the early G-wagens shared the same engine as the 190Es...I wonder how difficult an LS swap would be ) and I found VERY few for sale, and those that were for sale were asking ridiculous prices for them.

Would definitely be a better option to import a G-class than to buy one locally.

1988 models go for drug money due to aus and Canada being able to import for road use. I have found many 1991 models for crazy cheap but useless for us as the cannot be licd)
