    1994 R32 GTR - Stock to 300-320KW

    Hey guys,

New GTR owner here, last month purchased a stock other than a no name cat back exhaust. 97K's, you can see the boost restrictor line is still attached, OEM head unit was in it when I picked it up also. Posted this over in skylinesaustralia, but figure here will be best place for local advice.

    The Plan:
I want to aim for 300-320Kw, it is my daily driver 1 of every three weeks so with that in mind my criteria is as follows:
    -Usable power with responsive turbos
    -No ridiculously heavy clutch
-Stock looking as possible engine bay

So far I have Work Meister S1R's 18x10 +12 all round ordered and will be here in about 10 weeks, so until then I am going to collect parts.
My buy list for the first round of mods (not aiming for 300kw until after turbo swap)
-Blitz ZZ-R or BC-BR Coilovers (prefer Blitz)
    -Tyres (undecided)
-High flow panel filter and remove the snorkel restriction in stock airbox.
-Blitz front pipe and high flow cat (still has the compliance cat which is killing it)
-Right hand door surround as current one has a small tear.
-Get it on a Dyno before I do anything and see where it stands/replace anything that might need replacing.

Once these are all in I will start chasing the power I am after, here is where I am less sure of part choices, so any input would be great.
-7/9's turbos (the cheaps option is r33 reconditioned turbos with n1 internals)
-Stand alone ECU, still getting opinions on which one to roll with here, would like to use something that can switch between E85/98 easily, the fuel pump and injector choice will also reflect this.
-Injectors + Fuel pump with future E85 in mind
    -Tomei/R34 dump pipes
-Blitz cat back exhaust (replace the one on now to match front pipes)
-Boost controller preferably as part of the ECU so this will also effect chip choice.
    -Cam Gears
    -Port the standard manifold.
-Either heavy duty clutch or Nismo coppermix twin plate + lightened fly wheel.

Thats about where I am at currently, the ECU's I am looking at are Haltech PS2000 and Adaptronic Select, any advice on either of these appreciated.

    A few quick questions :
-Will I need to replace coil packs?
-If I stick to map tuned ECU's such as above AFM's will not be required right?
-Will a heavy duty clutch be fine for these power levels or will a twin be needed?
-Recommendations for tuners/workshops, I am NOR, so far have talked to PZP and Hyperdrive, happy with what I have seen and read about both?
-If I have missed anything please let me know

    Now for a few pictures

Can see boost restrictor and stock plenum still has 95% paint.

Thanks guys any help is appreciated

Yeah that is always in the back of my mind, will run conservative tune and numbers for as long as possible to draw it out as long as I can.

if you don't go crazy on boost, and bash limiter all day long in it and keep up regulator services, you might be OK. if not, your user name will take you the the hospital when you see the bill to rebuild a rb26 properly.

strap a set of 2530's (or similar), with fuel/intake mods and a tune to suit. Will make 300kw all day no problems.

Haha, yeah I have no intention of flogging the shit out of it, won't be tracked or smashed etc, no doubt the rebuild will come, and not looking forward to the day haha

have you thought of going a small single instead? like a gtx 3076, or 3071 even?
If your dead set on twins and you have the cash, pair of hks GT-SS' they will make your 300kw+ just as if not more responsive then stock twins.
You will be able to find a HD clutch for that power, however the 4wd will stress it if you try and launch it.
p2000 ftw. Check out All Star Garage aswell, just down the road from hyperdrive.
Replace the coilpacks with splitfires, a set of poncams would be a nice addition too.
You don't ruin an RB26, an RB26 ruins you

Just go see Galvsport, resist the 2.8L lure, and get them to add some bolt ons.

If you're money conscious, here's some advice:

-7/9's turbos [just use -7's, industry standard]
    -Cam Gears [don't need]
-Port the standard manifold. [don't need]
-Either heavy duty clutch or Nismo coppermix twin plate + lightened fly wheel. [go OS Giken twin. Bit more exxy but worth it for the drivability].

Yeah want to stay twins, want to keep it true to its heritage if that makes sense, plus less drama getting it certified etc, yeah have heard pretty good things about allstar as well, really just looking for someone who really knows rb26's.

Thanks for the advice, yeah 2.8 is not even remotely on the cards haha, I know I dont need cam gears but they are a cheap easy way to fatten the mid range power curve a but, and since manifold/dump pipes are allready off to swap turbos I figure will swap/get them ported while they are off.

I have heard the opposite about the clutches, did a bit of reading and most people seemed to think the coppermix was better for drivability than the os giken?

Yeah a new harmonic balancer is a really good idea as the old one is quite possibly stuffed and once it goes your oil pump will be next.

-7's are all the turbo you need for that power. Again with that output you dont need to start with a heap of other mods. So cams, manifolds, AFM's, injectors, fuel pump, air filter box, porting etc etc are not necessary. You can keep it cheap by keeping many things stock - it would be a good idea to talk to you mechanic/tuner with that as the overall directive. Cam gears may be worth a look, however.

Wouldnt bother with E85 for that amount of powah but I'm not sure when you run out of stock injector and fuel flow on E85 anyway?

You're building almost my exact car, down to being a white '94 GTR.

I've got the -7's, Poncams and gears and Tomei dumps, running the standard panel filter. These will make your 300kw without drama or greater than stock lag. I felt the same about keeping to the 'spirit' of the car (I still run HICAS even) and if you don't stick your head too far in the engine bay you'd never know anything unusual was there.

My fuel setup doesn't suit E85 with only 850cc injectors, so at least you'll have that option. I'd probably recommend setting it up for E85 if you don't need to drive it that often (1/3 weeks). I drive mine every day so E85 isn't practical yet.

I'm running a PowerFC and Profec B boost controller from ages ago, but have only just had the turbos in for 2 weeks so if I was starting from scratch like you I'd maybe look at something else.

Keen to see how yours ends up.

Edit: Oh yeah I had to replace my coilpacks with Splitfires too.

Have a Nismo Coppermix Twin to suit this vehicle.

As Simon said, Oil pump, Bigger sump and Ati Harmonic balancer. This "should" give you some decent life out of a stock motor.
Those mods are a asap kinda thing.

Hit up the lads at Galvsport to sort out those issues for you, they can supply and fit.

    Tidy looking starting point.

Thanks for the advice, I was under the impression that stock sump is fine unless tracking it and hitting high revs alot? Will definitely get the pump and balancer checked over when the other pieces go in, couldn't hurt to just replace the oil pump with a nismo one while I do my mods anyway to future proof it.

Cool, you have any input on 7's vs R33 rebuilt with new N1 internals that you can find on ebay for around $1500 a pair? Yeah I realise I do not need all of the extra, but I figure most of them are good for protecting the health of the engine once boost starts increasing (fuel system and ecu etc) and sets me up for a turbo swap later and can easily push the power figure much higher without many other mods.

Looks like a good setup man, yeah I dont think I will do the fuel system straight away, will get turbos and ecu in with dumps then start adding the others afterwards. Having E85 only being sold in armadale is a pain in the ass haha, which is why I want an ecu that can flex tune for either easily once I do it.

Thanks man, that was what drew me to it, paid a bit more than I was looking to pay but I wanted the cleanest possible blank slate to start with that hadn't been abused.

New or second hand coppermix? The stock clutch doesn't feel like it has alot left, not really familiar with how they normally feel in GTRs, but is alot softer than I was expecting and engages really late.

Thanks will get onto the pump/balancer.

Thanks for the advice, which VIPEC unit? I assume you can get one with mapping/boost control and flex tune for E85?

Stock sump is fine for the street, just overfill it, but it's not going to hurt doing it properly now.

Oil pump, don't bother with a new one, just get billet gears for your stocker and get the screws in the backing plate replaced and loctite in place. Ati balancers are just over $650 from the USA, well worth the investment.

Anthony Scali is about to officially be tuning again

    The WA king.

I would go with Pauls setup - couple of small twins. LOL @ rebuild for 300kw. No need if done right - look at Camo's GTR.

Aware me on Anthony? Yeah that sounds good, pair of 7's with dumps and front pipes + ecu, then fuel system, cams etc later
